Fi BL Vs. SSA XCON Vs. Fi Q Vs. AA Havoc

I have played with ALOT of woofers over the years....the Xcons hands down is my #1 choice smooth , flat and accurate with a HARD hit all around and I would avoid the BL like herpies...they are one of the peakiest sounding subs I have ever heard they are loud and will hit a small range of notes hard but not musical at all -

XCON Tucson Arizona Tour @ Southwest Audio Fest May 2010
Thumpper replied to Mark LaFountain's topic in Videos
Tuned @ 29hz that box is very impressive. When the first bass line came in when I heard it last weekend, I felt like someone stuck there hands in my ears and were pulling them open haha. are your new boxes going to be tuned at 29hz as well? 32hz. but will hurt even worse with twice the power Trevor, if you're reading this, hurry up! hehe LOL...... I think you'll be just a tad higher on the mic with the new box..... -

LOL...... I always write something stupid on the panels to line them up after the holes are cut he really wanted a pair of 15" jammed in there with a flare......not much baffle "all port and sub "

you can't blame a product for failing when you drive it to death from abuse what you basically did was buy a ferarri and blow it by putting a rock on the gas pedal while telling them they need a stronger more durable engine...... there is nothing wrong with the voice coils in the Xcon.... the voice coil WILL handle well over the rated RMS with clean power easily

your woofer is a victum of poor operation... the gain on the amp IS NOT a volume control there is a point on the volume where it really doesn't pound any harder if you pass it but your not quite shure so you turn up past it anyways..... this is very very very bad the end result is ALWAYS ripped suspension or fried coils and leads contact Aaron ( Denim ) and he will set you up with a recone

your box and Glenneress's door pods are coming next

shouldn't be a problem.....I see lots of room I still have about 3 weeks worth of work to catch up on from before the shop move but if your not in a huge hurry you can get in line just shipped the first batch of projects this morning.......stuff will be flying out of the shop now

BTL = peaky and doesn't drop worth beans but great for spl or just plain loud....models terribly on the graph Xcon = flatter response ,drops lower and has much better note seperation and tone definition .....less DB output than the BTL but much more musical...models really nice on the graph

finally got back up and running I have a couple builds to catch up on ...this one is for a pair of 12" Xcons 4.25cf3 tuned at 30hz

anyways.....due to the lack of respect shipping companies have with packages and the requierments to qualify for insurance claims I was forced to change the way I ship I still have to cap off the ends but it should get there on one peice

I had them metered brand new out of the box and no playing with 50% rms power ..144db @ 41hz legal on dash not bad concidering the enclosure is tuned below 30hz.. broken in with the A3000 on them I see an easy 4 to 5 db gain

ICON Prototype 12" Temp build

minus the screen door bracing it's almost an exact replica of my center port enclosure ....the subs being mounted so far apart reduced output by almost 3db but it did have decent SQ -
the floor space is not to bad...the sloped ceiling sucks when you are 6 foot 2 inches tall though I still have a seperate paint room.... one thing I learned out of this move..DO NOT plug a table saw into an outlet of an old building that may contain Aluminum wiring......POOF !!!

I like it...... once I get a few spare minutes I'm gonna re sheet the wall and clean up the background for pics

still on the hunt for the perfect amp
Thumpper replied to wafsman's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
it's a little more juice but I would find a used JBL/Crown BPX 2200.1 on e bay...... doesn't really matter on the impedance with the Crown Circutry...4 ohm..1 ohm..no real difference to them and you won't find a better sounding sub amp for the $$$ either -
that's a long way from here.....a good 3-4 day drive
