    Wiring a DVC 2-ohm sub to 1ohm

It doesn't matter. Hook the two + together to the amp and then the two - to the amp. It's all the same no matter how you do it.
  3. I would worry less about cone area and more about building a more efficient box.

    3 questions for bass upgrade

Whoever told you #2 doesn't know what they're talking about. When you're driving past your grandma's house and you have the volume down at only 5 out of 35 or whatever, guess what, your amp isn't putting out full power (Even if it's 1000 watts RMS and matches the sub's RMS). Is that hurting the sub? No. So it would be completely illogical to think that an amp that does less than the sub's rated power would hurt it. Are you sure you could fit an 18" sub and its required box in that trunk?

So then what should it do? Assume an even impedance across the entire spectrum and be even more wrong? It's far better to at least try. And what are you saying, box shape changes impedance?
  6. x2. There is no variable in any subwoofer that's going to lend itself better to a convertible environment. They're all going to lose considerable output and be affected the same way by the loss of a top. So 1) Stop making threads about what would sound best in a convertible, and 2) list other characteristics of a sub or your listening preferences that would help in choosing a sub that suits you.

Agreed. Well, nothing I can say about that. My knowledge of continental Europe economies is limited.

I would hope that we will never go back to how the economy was at the beginning of this recession. People were spending something like 102% of their incomes. That's just dumb and not sustainable at all, and nothing how I figure a good economy to be.

    Do you smoke?

    Hell no.
  11. No way should you be having problems with a 120 amp alternator. Something else is going on then. The last alt may have just died because it was old and wearing out anyways, regardless of having all those things on. But if the new one is still bad, either the alternator has a factory defect or something is really pulling current other than the stereo.

    Wrong. Right.
  13. If that's outside measurements then you're probably only at like 1.4 cubes internally, and minus sub displacement will get you down to 1.3. So it's about right. You won't lose bass from either a box too large or from using high level inputs as long as the gain is set correctly.

And it's not like the US is alone in this. England: Current unemployment 8% France: Current unemployment 9.8% Germany (7.7%) and Spain (18.3%): Japan and China are at 5.3% and 4.4%, respectively (though china's is likely at least 9-10% because their government just conveniently decides to not count some people). Brazil is 8.1%. Unemployment in the entire eurozone is about 9.7%, not that much different than US. Some countries were hit harder by unemployment, just like some states were hit harder in the US. However, I think you have to take into consideration that many of these countries came out of the recession months ago, some even in the 2nd quarter. Their unemployment numbers peaked around August and are now falling. I think the US was just hit so hard because it is such a financial center for the whole world that when a financial disaster occurs, it is the last to recover. But, like many reports out of those countries, the US's manufacturing, housing, etc. reports have been getting better for the last weeks or months.

That's just how capitalism works. It rewards those who can find lower input costs to create larger profit. But I must ask, when was the "beginning?" In the 90s when the economy flourished for the most part? The reason it did was because businesses were discovering those lower costs of overseas manufacturers. So really that was the beginning of the problem, not of the good market. And we had recessions/downturns in the 80s and 70s. My point is the market has always had problems, and it has always evolved from it. We've been in this position several times before. I think it will evolve from this problem just fine as well. At least for a couple more years, until the next problem comes.

    FI Q 12 or 15

The Q should be able to handle more power and should get a little louder, but if you're looking for a decent step up in output you'll need to go ported. As per Fi's recommendations, the 15" Q should work fine in 2.8-4 cubes ported.
  19. I moved this to the electrical section. If you are getting dimming with only 300 watts there may be something wrong. What are the stock alternator and battery sizes? With only 300 watts 4 gauge is fine.
  20. Why are you getting dual 2 coils? You should get dual 1 so that you can wire in series/parallel and get a 1 ohm load at the amp.

I just think it wasn't a big shock to most people. Well, it wasn't to me anyways. We will continue to have increasing unemployment numbers into the middle of next year.
