Woke up sweating buckets in the middle of the night. No idea why. Then i woke up a bit later shivering cold because I had taken off all the covers when i was hot. Maybe it was because I switched allergy meds without a break between? I'm not sick at all.

I think you'll be fine. You can put any amplifier on any sub, it's all about how you use the gain. Just learn to listen for stressing in the Xcons.
-
How is it going to cost you 65? Most LOCs only cost like 10 bucks, and that's something you can DEFINITELY do yourself.
-
If you double cone area and power, under theoretical conditions, you'll see a 6 db gain.

There is nothing wrong with using the phase shift. That is just used to match the phase of the subwoofer with your interior speakers. It does not boost or cut the signal in any way. In fact I would recommend you play with it, turning it every which way while the whole stereo is playing. That way you can get an idea of what it does and can set it where you want it. You'll notice that the beat of the sub will move from hitting at the same time as the interior speakers to seemingly being late hitting in step with the interior speakers as you turn the knob. You'll want to adjust the phase so that they hit the note at the same time. As for the gain, you cannot arbitrarily set it at 12:00. You may get full power at only 9:00 depending on the input voltage from the RCAs, and you may be into clipping at 12:00 in that case. The thing I do is just turn the head unit up to the maximum you listen to the interior speakers, then turn the amp gain up until the sub starts sounding funny or stops getting louder, then back the gain off a tad. You can set it with a DMM if you want, but it can be simpler. What do you mean change terminals from 4 gauge to 1/0? Are you talking about the ring terminals on the battery? Those will have to be changed. You can't pull the 4 gauge wire out of it and still use it. 1/0 wire won't fit into it.

Although it may be a non-issue since new cone improvements may have made the cones so rigid that it doesn't matter because they wouldn't break up pretty much no matter the shape. But I'm not sure.

That's why unless you're really into signal analysis, really curious, or have other use for it, there isn't really a need for one. Your ears are your best tool, listening for the speaker stressing and letting you know there's too much power. If you know what you're listening for you can hear amplifier clipping as well (albeit at a bit higher clipping level than an indicator would probably tell you). So, IMO, having an o-scope just for car audio purposes isn't worth it.

Danget I forgot that Loratadine (active ingredient in claritin) gives me muscle spasms. It's so annoying because it'll just go on for 30 minutes.

Well, good luck then.

As I said earlier in your thread: Those 5x7's are crap. You don't want them. It has NOTHING to do with oval or round and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that no one engineers a decent oval speaker these days. *exceptions always, but I don't know of any 5x7's atm Buy some 6.5" components otherwise you will be right back where you started. But don't oval speakers have uneven stress on the cone, which can cause breakup earlier on the power scale than in a similar round-coned speaker?

Why do you ask why 4 ohms strapped isn't better than 1 ohm on one amp? It'll be 600 watts in either case. And I don't see how this thread is any different than your other one. In fact you asked these same questions in it. I'm going to merge them. ps- Please type in better sentences. It's hard to understand your questions.

I would not recommend this.
-
It's going to have a terrible response. You're probably going to get an f3 of like 80 hz, meaning it will have no lows at all.
-
you're. I have a feeling I would have been the only naked one though because I had no idea what the game was they were playing. Although I know one of the rules was to take off an article of clothing if you swore, which I'd be good on because I don't do that much.
-
I always feel woozy after running on a treadmill. It's not my favorite. Stupid winter.
-
that would be where i would open the door anyways and make up some excuse for not hearing them say they're naked. "sorry babe, my ears were ringing from some mad deeebeeezzzzz and didn't hear you..." You know I tried! But it was locked.

$100 bucks for 500 watts is a good deal no matter what. man if you have the hundred spend it. not many times have i said "man i wish i didn't have all that extra power", its usually the other way around.. plus who knows what the future holds, that extra 500 watts may let you upgrade. if that happens you will already have the power and that alone will save you from having to buy another amp. so......... in other words spending that extra $100 now may save you many hundreds in the future. just an idea to kick around But the question is whether he will hear it by ear, and the answer is no. You'd only be gaining 1/3 extra power, which is probably only about 1 db. There is also no rule about an extra 500 watts letting you upgrade. There is nothing wrong with running two 1000 watt subs on a 1500 watt amp. You don't have to have exactly or more amplifier power than the sub's RMS. And to one of the OP's first questions- it is NEVER necessary to run 1kw more than rated.

You can run the sundown with the 4 gauge with the Pioneer sub. You're only getting 1000 watts then, and 4 gauge for 1000 watts is pretty common. But by the time you get the new sub and lower the impedance at the amp to 1 ohm, you should have that replaced with 1/0 gauge. Your truck should be fine with the Sundown. Nothing is really going to change between it and the Sony as far as the electrical system is concerned. If you play the stereo a lot with the car off with the Sundown in, you're going to drain the battery the same way as with the Sony.

Old School Punch
KU40 replied to dbrown23's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
2 ohm what, stereo or mono? They are rated 2 ohm stereo, 4 ohm mono. You can run them at 1 ohm stereo or 2 ohm mono without them shutting off unless you're really pushing it, but it lowers the life expectancy of the amp. I'd just stick to manufacturer's specs as Todd mentioned. -
Old Punch Transanna Amps

Old school no doubt. None. -
I think you should just stick with a 15" if you have the room for that. You won't notice that big of a difference between the 15 and 18. Hell, with that sub most people will think you have two 18s in the back anyways.

The first three days of this week were spent outside in the 15-25* weather. I had on three long sleeve shirts/sweatshirts, overalls, a jacket, stocking cap, shorts, jeans, two pairs of socks, and two pairs of gloves to stay warm. We didn't move much, which was one of the main problems. But that amount of clothing kept me comfortable enough so it wasn't too bad. But switching out of my warm gloves and into cold, thin blue exam gloves for sample taking every 10 minutes was not awesome. We almost had to stay there for a third night last night because we just couldn't get to the edge of this soil contamination to fully delineate it. Luckily, an hour before dark, we found the edge. The gf would have probably gotten mad at me for the first time because her friend from Virginia was flying in for that one night before they went off on a trip together today and she really wanted me to meet her. She'd been looking forward to that for weeks and it would have been my only chance to meet her for a long time to come. And when I went to her house last night I knocked and heard girls screaming/laughing and a "hold on a minute, we have to put on our clothes." Yeah, apparently there were 4 girls up there stripped to underwear, 3 with no bras, before I got there. They were playing some strip card game. No dudes, thankfully.

just burnt copies of those for my parents, lets just say they dont seem to be working all that good when you dont use them. Motivation to start, and probably more important- keeping motivated- is the key to any workout-related regimen.

Drink less beer. I know it's sacrilege around some parts, but that's the truth. I'm going to start Insanity with the gf in January. I don't need to lose any weight, though, so I couldn't tell you on that end. However I know it would work for people who do. P90X is more strength training stuff, whereas insanity is more cardio. Insanity is harder than P90X, often people say to do that first so that you're in good enough shape to survive insanity. Ha. But either will do you good I think, if the workout dvd idea is the way you want to go. Having more muscle increases your metabolism, which will help you burn more fat as you eat less.
