Nearly all of the manufacturers on this board have an SPL-oriented subwoofer. Pick one.

Just go out and look and measure.

The power in this whole area of the city went off last night for about an hour. The arrangement of my apartment and the windows won't allow me to see much of the surrounding neighborhood and I wasn't about to go walking out in the cold in my PJs, but every house I could see was dark. We weren't having bad weather or anything. Weird. I was wondering if a giant mutant monster attacked the power plant or something. I just kinda dicked around for a while by candle light, and of course not 2 minutes after I finally said screw waiting for my computer to come back on I'm going to sleep, the power came back. But then I was too tired to do any more work on the computer.

Well it's the French's fault, they shouldn't have spelled it so dumbly in the first place. My spelling is better anyways. True that

I have. Though I did not do it myself. Let's see if I can find a receipt here. I did them at different times. For one side it was 115.30 parts and 75 labor.

Yes, i was thinking about making some sealed fiberglass door pods. I was on the phone yesterday for about a hr waiting on tech support to answer the phone to find out which would be better. Got tired and hangup, ill try again sometime next week. Just thought someone here had these comp. and would offer a suggestion. But thanks to everyone that did. Maybe try emailing them. I emailed them a couple years ago to find out the crossover points on the JL XR components and I received a fairly prompt response.

If it was clipping you could have had over 1000 watts.

Yep

Hmm, doesn't seem like it on the Squeezebox, but I haven't listened to just web Pandora in a while. And no I don't pay shit monthly. I haven't noticed a decrease in sound quality. But the increase in ads on the free version sucks. Every 6-8 songs there's an ad, and any time you switch stations an ad plays first.

Now they're saying 5-8" of snow here tomorrow night but only like 1" in Hays, where I'm going. I decided to just take off work tomorrow and leave in the morning so that I get out of here before it starts snowing. Originally (a couple days ago), they said maybe 1-3" for Lawrence but up to a foot in Hays. That got me worried for the drive home since there was also supposed to be 35 mph winds, giving white out conditions. But now they've pretty much completely reversed the locations for the snow. Wind is still supposed to be there though. If you're going anywhere east of Salina I bet roads won't be good again until Saturday. But west of there you may be ok any day.

Too much power. Don't get that itch to crank it so high again or you'll have a burnt subwoofer.

I'm not sure on those speakers specifically but generally most off-the-shelf component systems by major manufacturers work best infinite baffle. So just make sure the inner door skin is well sealed from the "chamber" inside the door. This is effectively a large sealed box.

There is no problem with using the bass boost to cut the frequencies. It will not harm anything. However, it will have the negative affect on the frequency response as you mentioned. But it will all be fixed once you get the new amp and have that remote gain . If you get that Alpine receiver that has the subwoofer level control, that would also do it.

mmm biscuits and gravy (with sausage in it of course). Eggs also obviously good and can be made a million different ways. I also love pancakes- blueberry, chocolate chip, or regular ol' buttermilk (can also use semi-exotic syrups, like right now my favorite is butter pecan. Also have some apple syrup). If you have any little ones around a little older than yours they might like chocolate chip pancakes with the chips in a smily face. Or mickey mouse pancakes (two extra little dobs of batter up top for ears). Hopefully kids these days still recognize Mickey Mouse's silhouette, ha. I also like the fruit idea, as that is not only healthy and tasty but adds color to the mix, and a wide range of color makes things more exciting.

Are you making sure to subtract port volume from box volume before getting the port length?

Waaaaaay late to the party.

I would run it all in stereo. That way you can still use fade and balance controls.

Really I don't see how it could ever be helpful since most amp manufacturers have the bass boost at 45 hz, and where do ported boxes generally have their FR hump at? 40-45 hz, or 10 hz above tuning. So why would anybody need to boost a frequency range that's already being boosted by the box? Not to mention the cabin gain that is higher as the frequency gets lower. You are right in that I shouldn't have even offered that up as a solution, it will be horribly misread here. I think I only added it as I didn't want someone to offer up the following scenario as an eff you M5. The instance I was thinking of is when "captain show off" (known also as the guy with the Napoleon complex...tends to play his shit loud in public) stops in at his local mega store and picks up a 15" driver that is designed for a 2.5cuft sealed box. Being that the dumbass doesn't have space for a 2.5cuft box, he builds a 1cuft box leaving him with a subwoofer that is almost acting like a midbass. Of course this dipshit buys an amp that is 2x the rated power for the sub to further inflate his e-peni. In his case, adding 6dB of boost at 40Hz could actually hugely improve his midbass enclosure and turn it into a bass enclosure. He also will be okay in the excursion realm since this teeny box has greatly improved the mechanical power handling of the sub and might even be okay thermally playing music. Really obtuse case, but I have seen so many people buy subs and then realize they only have the space for half the box they need, in that case if the boost were the right amount it could be helpful. Of course these are the same idiots who will destroy their sub with the gain knob anyways and the bass boost will just make that happen way faster. NOTE: I am definitely NOT recommending that someone try to do this on purpose as it screams fail all over it. A driver in the proper enclosure will ALWAYS smash this sort of bullshit. Take a look at what it does to the cone excursion, if you don't know how to calculate that then you shouldn't be designing enclosures anyway. I actually wasn't meaning to refute your post in any way, rather just add to it. But yeah I agree your example would be about the only one I could think of as well.

Two face in the doors, one side clean one side gnarly.

Ha, your videos mean nothing. Please, enlighten me. Tell me how your voltage is going to stay above 12 while pulling 250+ amps on a 105 amp alternator. Tell me it's not more work for the alternator to recharge the batteries that get drained every time you play for longer than a minute.

Marketing.

What boxes? Download winISD or some other box program and plot them in the boxes you want. That'll at least give you a relative answer on their frequency response.

Tuning the box lower will help a little. As will just turning down the volume on songs you know have notes below your tuning frequency.
