    Vented or backseats?

Exactly what frequencies do you mean by low? If you want 30-40 hz like on most rap, personally I'd just use one of the 18s in a ported box since you don't have the room for both. That may well be louder over those frequencies than both in a sealed box.

    performance teknique amps?

Garbage. Save up for something that'll last.

    Welcome to the IHoP

some how... no matter what... I have never met a modern vette I like. The '67's. Yup ok can do.... but after the 60's ended.... :meh: be that as it may, its hard not to respect a 3,400 pound automobile with 600+ HP I'd rather have this 3,600 pounder with 650 hp: 2007 Lamborghini Reventon Price, Specs & More | RSportsCars.com Or this 3700 + 612 hp: http://www.ferrari.com/English/GT_Sport%20Cars/CurrentRange/Ferrari_599_GTB/Performance_Figures/Pages/Performance_Figures.aspx Sure you can argue price. But I'd rather save up than settle.

how to tune the box right?

That port takes up 1.88 cubes, lowering your box volume to 5.12 cubes. The port dimensions make the tune 36 hz.
  5. With that kerfed edge I'd just glue a 1/2" piece of wood onto the bottom edge of the inside of the port. Or whatever size wood would suffice to get the port area you want. What is the box volume and length of the port now? It might be worth looking into if lengthening the port would still get you desired tuning without lowering box volume below an acceptable threshold.
  6. No it won't blow the fuses. If you want a permanent solution, get a relay. Bosch makes the most common 12v one. Just go to radio shack, they're like 4 bucks or something. You install it on the remote wire along with a power and ground and it will increase the remote signal's power.

Looking for an amp for BTL 18"

If that SAZ1500D is in good working order, that's a pretty good deal and it will power the BTL just fine. It will put out nearly 2000 watts, and you won't hear a difference between that and an actual 2000 watt amp anyways.
  8. Are you sure it wasn't actually in the front speakers a little originally, just that it was so much louder in the rear speakers that you paid attention to them more instead and didn't notice it in the fronts? Try plugging an ipod or something into those same RCAs to send the signal to the amp instead of the head unit.

    Welcome to the IHoP

You need to find a local place where it's only mexican guys. They will have one dude who speaks ~some~ english and the rest just work on cars. You can bring in your own online ordered parts and they will charge about 100 bucks for anything. Here in the twin cities there are no better places to take your car. They know more practical knowledge about tune ups and basic repair than ever other tech who works in a chain shop combined. I wouldn't ask them to tune up an Enzo, but if my Ford pickup/SUV needs some love they will have that shiz done in 15 min and they might throw in a new transmission and some beans and rice on the way out for under 100 bucks. After seeing my bill, the biggest problem was not taking in my own parts. They gave me double platinum plugs @ 12 apiece and a $75 wire set. I don't think my Explorer needs that. $3 plugs and a $30 wire set probably would have been adequate. Labor for doing plugs and wires was 115. Coulda saved 40 bucks in labor by replacing the belt myself though. My plugs definitely needed replaced though. Half of them had the electrode worn down all the way to a smooth nub barely above the insulator. I'm surprised some of them even fired.

    Welcome to the IHoP

You got raped. And plug wires are part of a tune up. That's what I thought. I'm not going to this shop anymore. It seems like a reputable place, it's a Goodyear dealer shop that also does all mechanic work, just like my dad's shop. Maybe I need to start taking it to a mechanic-only shop.

Oh. so I take it you're upfiring the subs?

    Welcome to the IHoP

Anybody know anything about the MTX 6000 series 10" subs from 6-7 years ago? I got some for my dad way back then for his truck, but now we're taking them out and putting them in my little brother's car. I was going to make a ported box but I can't find any box recommendations or T/S specs online. MTX's site is apparently down. Edit- nvm, found them.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Apparently I'm naive, but I always thought new plug wires was included in a tune up. How the hell does only changing the plugs cost like $160? Plugs cost 3 bucks. Somehow new plugs, wires, and serpentine belt comes out to $370 even though the parts cost 80 bucks in total and it can't take more than two hours to do all of it. Now I'm really wishing I would have just braved the cold to change them myself. At least the belt. But some of the plugs are a bit hard to get to. They did say the wires looked original though, and with 190k+ miles, I'm kinda surprised they've lasted this long. I asked for the parts back, so I can test the resistance of them to see if they've increased. What should normal resistance be? Will be interesting to see the spark plugs as I'm not sure if/when they've been changed before.

    Nightshade 18'' tuning

You may notice a small change.

Do I have enough room for 4 15Z

I don't know what you mean. You give a length and width and depth, no height.
  16. KU40

Do I have enough room for 4 15Z

Well, just taking the averages of the Sundown recommendations for those subs gives 3 cubes per sub @ 32 hz. You'd have to stack the subs 2 x 2 obviously for this build. That'll leave you with about 6-8" in width for the port. You could make a box 38"h x 38"w x 22.5"d. The slot port could be 36.5" tall x 5" wide and 28.75" long (will have to be an L-shaped port, turning across the back wall).
  17. KU40

Do I have enough room for 4 15Z

That's about 18.9 cubes gross. After factoring in an average port with area of 180 sq. inches and tuned to 35 hz as well as sub displacement, you are left with about 17 cubes. That's enough. What do you want to tune to?

    Welcome to the IHoP

Slept almost 10 hours last night, needed that. But woke up by a phone call from my stepdad at 6am asking how the roads are out this way because he was thinking about driving his semi to near here for work. I look outside and there appears to be just a dusting of snow so I say they're probably fine. I go back to sleep for 3 more hours, wake up and look to see if it has snowed any more, and all of the snow is completely gone. no trace of it at all. Sidewalk isn't wet and not a single snowflake anywhere. I'm like WTF, I know I wasn't dreaming when I saw that this morning. I didn't have my glasses on but I was sure I saw some. It didn't melt because it has been in the teens all day, and again no wetness anywhere. I'm still like about it.

NEW TO THIS AND NEED HELP

You'll want dual 1s. But as Alton said, I hope you've given thought to the electrical upgrades that you will have to do to support that amplifier. If you put it on your stock electrical system and bang away, you'll either kill your alternator, the amp, or both. As for components, what is your budget? What size? What amplifier are you going to use? What do you listen to and what kind of sound do you want? Look on Fi's website for box recommendations.

    Welcome to the IHoP

X2 x3, low to mid 30's here at least it stopped raining wish the wind would stop also. just got to make it through February because that's the colddd month True, February is historically the coldest month. Not looking forward to it.
  21. Then it's either the RCAs getting pinched or have a short in them, or the head unit. Look over the length of RCAs.

    Welcome to the IHoP

I don't know, this is the real world. HAHA
  24. That amp on those subs would be fine. Just don't crank the gain trying to get more power out of the amp just because the subs should be able to handle more.
  25. Try switching things out to narrow down the problem. Switch out RCAs, then switch out amp with another, then try some different speakers. Or since you have a 4 channel amp as it sounds, just switch the front and rear speakers at the amp. if the noise then travels to the front speakers, it's head unit, RCAs, amp, or speaker wire. If it stays at the rear speakers, it's the speakers. Then you can narrow it down further from there.
