I'm so happy it's Friday. I get to go fishing tomorrow! I basically go fishing every weekend now in the morning hours.

Research Assistant for an aquifer study for the state geological survey. Basically just input data onto a computer and sometimes make cool looking images. Only on a term contract, though, so I'll be looking for something else in about 2 months.

2 subs ported will be louder

I hate ball joints, they always go out.
-
that's quite a bit. I'd just use .2 cubes.
-
haha that's hilarious.

holy cow. I hope his drivers are waterproof, and he'll have fun mowing his grass around those things. That's the most outrageous project I've ever seen. what balls one has to have.

yeah, my use of winISD has degenerated into mainly just the port calculator. it used to be my Mecca for all things speaker. Then I learned things.

Ever since the sale the RE forum there has been decreasing in thread/post volume. hmm........

Just got my D2 now I need a design MONEY INVOLVED!

your measurements look ok, except I get .37 as the volume of the upper left portion. All that means is your box is tuned to 31.5 hz instead of 32. Not a big deal. -
Well I know at least the older D2's give one of the flattest response graphs I've seen in a ported box of reasonable size (around 4 cubes for my 15) and tune (30-32 hz). But it seems the impedence spikes a little harder than most, giving larger power variations. How would you rank impedence, port loading (and woofer firing direction), vehicle characteristics, etc. in terms of affecting frequency response?

what's the height? 13.5" outside? -
that is interesting. To what would you attribute that to? vehicle characteristics, box impedence characteristics, other?
-
Dang, 131.5 in driveby and 149.5 at only 35 hz? you are very good at what you do.

any grill will work, you'll just have to raise it up off the front baffle with some spacers. might look a little goofy, but.......... weigh the pros/cons of having a protected driver if you need it.

2 ohm stable amps aren't inherently more expensive that 1 ohm stable amps. .5 ohm stable amps are tons harder to find than 2 ohm amps. Most companies i've seen make a 5-600 watt amp stable to 2 ohms, a 1000-1500 watt amp stable to 1 ohm, then a 2500 watt amp stable to 2 ohms. Some make a 1k-1.5k watt amp optimized at 2 ohms also.
-
just a reminder if you get 2, you'll need an amp that does its power at 2 ohms, not 1. the 2 ohm DVC design of the Mag lets you wire to 1 or 4 ohms when using a single sub, but when combining with another you can only get .5, 2, or 8 ohms. and 2 ohms is the most popular setup out of that bunch, especially when talking about amplifier output. oh and there will be no difference between the used one and the new one if you add one later, no matter the power the first sees.
-
most likely the load was just too low for whatever they were trying to push it with and it kept cutting out to protect itself.
-
strapping at 1 ohm should be the same as each amp doing .5. same basic principle as a 2 channel stereo/bridged amp- 2 ohms stereo is like 4 ohms mono. lookin good though, wish I could have 4 mags

me too

2 15s sealed or 1 15 ported off 1000/1
KU40 replied to Trevor Eaton's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
i'd say just build whatever you want to end up with, then just power the two with the one amp for now, then when you get the second you can add it in. that way you don't have to build multiple boxes or change much. oh and I have about......40-45 sq. inches for my 15 I believe, and it works well. -
well it's not the sub (thank goodness). both coils read 1.9. must be something with the amp, maybe i'll open it up sometime.
-
There's a chance I may need a recone or something (hope not ), my sub amp has been cutting out the last two days and the protection light was on. Gonna take a DMM to the coils sometime soon. but my question is........would there be any gain by reconing my older model D2 with the new Mag's soft parts? Or do you think I should just get a new Mag?
