then do you just use caulk to seal around the wires? yes. -

I just pass the wires straight through the box then seal up the hole around them. then you don't have to dink with terminals. -
make sure your outputs aren't being jumped across by stray wires or that the ends of the wires aren't touching each other if you just have them laying around.

KU had their graduation today, and couldn't really ask for better weather for people to walk in. 80 degrees, no wind, lots of sun. My friend had his grad party at my house, we grilled up a bunch of stuff. hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, and my T-bone and damn it was good. so tender and juicy, it was ridiculous.

just to cover some bases........Is the box sealed well besides the port? Having an airleak will make it sound bad, usually like a tapping or rattling while being quieter as well. Is there a bass boost on anywhere (either on the amp or the head unit)? does your head unit have a low pass crossover for the sub that's on? You can try putting stuff inside the box to take up space to see if that's the problem. bricks, wood, etc. how do you have the box oriented? You couldn't just be hearing rattling from your car trunk or lift gate?

it really depends on what 6.5 you get whether it can fit or not. I got some old Kenwood 6.5" components (the ones with the neo magnet) for my dad's f150 and they fit in the holes. but JL Audio XR 6.5's baskets are wider and did not fit in the holes in my explorer and I had to make rings. The bad part is that you'll have to make something anyways because whether you use 5.25s or 6.5s you'll still have open area around the speaker since it will be going into an oval. I'd say measure the cross section of the 5x7 holes then compare to the speakers you are looking at. Most of them list the basket/mounting width in the speaker manual.

After our 3rd roommate moved out I finally got to realize my dream and have a dedicated HT room. Unfortunately only a couple months later another guy moved in, so I had to move all my stuff back downstairs to the living room. Then less than 2 months later that guy moved out, but I have yet to move it back into that room because it's had to be used for furniture storage and plus we may be moving out of this townhouse sometime soon so it would just be extra effort to move it all up and down the stairs again. and my sub box is very unlight. Equipment: Pioneer Receiver, forget the model number and too lazy to go look. LCR- 8" Dayton Reference, 6" Dayton reference, I think 1" Dayton classic tweet. The 8" is in 1 cube tuned to I think 50 hz, 6" is sealed, maybe .25 cubes, I forget. Surrounds- 2x 7" Vifa MG and Peerless soft dome tweet (they used to be my mains in 2 channel, which is why they're kinda overbuilt). Each box is 1 cube tuned to 65 or something like that Subs- 2x Crossfire BMF 12's powered by 500 watt plate amp. I think they're in 5 cubes tuned to 25 hz. Sorry for the grainy pics. the LR have an aeroport on the bottom and the surrounds use a slot port on the bottom. The sub box is underneath the TV. Nevermind the couch, my grandma was getting new furniture and being the poor college student I was decided to pick it up. It's probably 30 years old. Beats the old and worn out loveseat I had. Maybe I should get a cover for it someday........ These were all really my first ventures into HT and I decided to just dive right in. I'm sure I made some mistakes to stay cheap (like buying premade crossovers) or for whatever reason I was thinking that day (buying 6" for the mids up front instead of something smaller, but I went by the frequency response graphs and for some reason the 6" looked better), but I think it sounds spectacular and can get loud as hell. Sometimes my roommate likes to come home drunk and blast it, waking me up. My room is upstairs from the setup and even with the door closed it sounds like there is a concert in my room. and my body can still feel the bass. Now I just need a room worthy of it again. Our living room has a nice tv, 50" LCD, but I'm not about to hang my 50+ lb center channel above it. So unfortunately we only have 4.1 in there right now, and not having the center channel really messes it up for movies. It just sounds so much better and images so much better. That room is very oddly shaped, so the left surround actually has to be in front of the listener, amongst other things. Ugh. I need a basement.

They're not awesome. My dad manages a tire shop and he's heard a lot from people that have been around these and they all say they're not worth it. They're very expensive, I think something like 1000 per. And they ride like crap, they're very stiff. if you break one you obviously have to pony up for the full thing instead of just replacing the tire or whatnot. pneumatics are still the best for this application.

Upgrading my electrical need advice
KU40 replied to Darkhunter139's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I would generally agree unless you get a good warranty. I think Napa has a deal where you give them your old alternator when it goes bad and they sell you a remanufactured one for a pretty good deal, but then you also have a lifetime warranty on that alt. I did that on my old car and the alt was good for a couple years before I sold it. -
yeah I was thinking you meant spider. and as helotaxi said, probably not fixable since kicker isn't reasonable with their reconing. sorry man. If you have any kicker dealers around you, you might call or go to their shop and see if they have a recone kit. You might get lucky.

headunit/rca problem??
KU40 replied to quadraceya's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
some head units have menu options in them on how to control the outputs. Some have a subout on/off, maybe it has some kind of variable/fixed output option as well. Have you looked through the manual? -
can you post some pictures? The coil is made of metal, so I doubt it's really what's ripped. If something really is ripped you probably won't be able to fix it as it will require a complete recone. and unfortunately Kicker is probably the only place that has recone kits for it, especially since it's square.

Upgrading my electrical need advice
KU40 replied to Darkhunter139's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I'd upgrade the alternator. Not sure about ebay stuff, but if it were me I'd get one with a warranty. -

How come Sundown puts their name and model number facing opposite directions on the amps? and what does the rockford power? I assume the 100.4 is for your front stage
-
hooray, it's friday.
-
yeah I was going to say that I figure it's counted as income too and just used income tax. basically lumped in with your income, although may be on a different line on your W2.
-
are your rear tires scraping the inside of the wheel well with all that weight back there?
-
I'd guess 2 per would work.
-
can you describe a little further what "box does not sound good at all" means?
-
Nice. I don't know about there, but the reputation for tri-delts at KU is kinda slutty. There's some rhyme about it that I forget, but it involves something like "they say ahh when you stick it in their butt."

my gf will graduate next may with degree in organismal biology. That probably doesn't help you. haha.

I agree with that. Earlier I said "Most people don't go to school from 8-5 like many jobs, your classes may not start till 9-10 and only last a few hours, or some days you may only have one class or something and get a bunch of free time." and I always had enough time between classes in college or during "seminar" period in high school to get my homework done so I never actually had to do much at home. as for work I've done, I've worked in a tire shop doing tire changes, oil changes, etc, during high school and summers for the first 2 years of college. Not a lot of brain power required there. The next summer I did landscaping. Same deal. Then I got the job I have now, which has been mostly putting data into an Excel spreadsheet, with a little software work with that data. At this job I've always been able to make my own hours for the most part, aside from days when we have meetings and stuff. I generally try to work between 8 and 5 though just so my boss and I can talk if something comes up that needs changed or whatnot. I just have to wait until at least 7:30am before I get here or before about 5pm if I want to work in the evenings because they lock the doors at night. and since it's all on my computer at work, not really anything I can do at home. What have been your jobs where you've had to?
