Man those are really 20 cubes each? That really isn't as big as I thought it was then.

Either after a few tickets, stolen equipment, or pissed off people yelling at him. Or maybe just maturity in a few years.

I'd agree with that. All of what we're dumping into the atmosphere can't be positive, it'll bite us in the ass down the road sometime... I think that sometime is now, at least if you're in China and talking about pleasurable days. Some of them haven't seen the sun in years due to the smog in their cities. Which I think will have a world impact at some time. Not because the air pollution will affect the world, but because I think at some point the Chinese citizens will grow tired of the dirty ways and demand better air quality from the government. This will cause increased restriction for them and increase the cost of goods from there a ton. The world market will change. But who knows how far away that is or if it'll even happen. They are still using coal mining techniques that the US banned 100 years ago. So it may be 100 or more years from now, and obviously depends on if the government changes at all from what it is now and has been. But just my thought.

that one picture of the parking lot is funny because there are like 3-4 girls all taking pictures at the same time. ha. And that car with the hood flipped perfectly over on top of it is just crazy. Reminds me of the microburst that went through KU's campus last year. Pretty similar damage.

hope it works out for you

if you're just going to ditch it, why not try to repair it yourself? Start with the resistors you blew, and if you have a digital multimeter you can test most or all of the other components. Even if you replace a handful of resistors and tansistors and it still doesn't work, you're only out like 10 bucks. Plus you could learn a little if you didn't already know. Try going to.......I think the12volt.com to look at tutorials on how to test things. I looked somewhere online a few years ago to learn how to test the mosfets that I blew. Don't remember if it was 12volt or somewhere else though. -
I may stand corrected...it depends in what context your using the word "myth" And I'm sure even with millions of trees killed to print all of those "scientific findings and hypothesis" we are that much closer to saying that we understand mother nature? It's a myth, meaning its concocted. It's nothing more than raising global awareness and added marketing. If you ask me, we all learned the truth in earth science when we studied the heating/cooling cycles of the atmosphere. It's nothing abnormal. And need I add that hydrogen cars that emit pure water are horrible for the environment too. At least from a global warming standpoint. The highest heat holding component of our atmosphere is water vapor. Add more water vapor= more heat absorbed by the atmosphere. And don't get me started on the effects of concrete and local temperatures. but does the millions of trees killed (increase in temperature), hydrogen cars putting more water vapor in the atmosphere (increase in temperature) and the massive amounts of concrete and asphalt(increase in temperature) = global warming? or can we call it global increase in temperature? Audio-neon, you and I think a lot alike in this regard. As far as the term "global warming" is concerned, there are, IMO, two different and distinct definitions. The first is that it just means that the average temperature of the earth is increasing over some time period. The second includes the common connotation that it's man-made warming. Whenever I say global warming, I mean the first definition, aka the scientific definition. And I agree that marketing and money-making are part of the hysteria that people put into others. Statistics are another thing that are very, very easily manipulated. Somebody could say "The temperature now is 10 degrees warmer than it was 400 years ago!" Well of course it is, numb nuts, 400 years ago was a little global thing called the "little ice age." Then you might hear "The temperature now is 5 degrees warmer than it was 50 years ago." Again, of course it was, because there was a post world-war II era cold spell. Tell me what you think about this fact- The average temperature in 2002 was higher than it was last year. Uh oh! That doesn't fit! global cooling?!?! One research paper I read came to the conclusion that high CO2 levels didn't cause higher temperatures, and that it was actually flipped. Higher temps caused higher CO2 levels. People just want the temperature to stay exactly the same, and it just won't. The earth is way too dynamic for that. Not to mention that we'd have just as many problems if we had global cooling. Remember the disease and famine during the little ice age of 4-500 years ago? Half the planet's population died. But nobody tells you that. Another thing that nobody tells you is that 150 million years ago there were NO polar ice caps. oops. Another thing they won't tell you is that back then CO2 levels were orders of magnitude greater than they are today. and as somebody else mentioned, the equipment we have nowadays is much more sophisticated than it was even 100 years ago, allowing us to scrutinize every minute. Ice cores can show a decent history, but the temperature and CO2 curve they show is very smooth because they may only be able to get a recording for every 50 years or something. But now that we have better equipment, we can monitor and record temperatures every year, which makes the graph for recent history much more jagged, which makes it look like the temperature of the earth is wildly fluctuating and then humans are blamed for all of it. Now I'm not saying that man has NO impact. I just don't know that we can distinguish between what is man-made and what is natural. And as some alluded to, taking temperature readings anywhere near a city is dumb because of the urban heat problem with concrete and tall buildings, which trap heat. So basically what I'm saying is that nothing we're seeing today is new to the earth. It's had many many years of worse. If man wants to survive we have to adapt, just as all the animals of the past did. Humans are possibly the most adept animal in the history of the earth, so I think we'll be fine. Not that I don't think we could use a little population downgrade, but that's another topic.

You'll probably have to take the tire to a tire dealer. They may want to verify that there wasn't something in the tire that caused it to blow. i.e.- you ran over a nail, which deflated the tire, which caused it to blow. If they can see a nail or pre-existing puncture in the tire that could have caused the accident they'll blame it on that and not the tire, so they'll deny liability. Also, finding a tire dealer in your area for those tires and going to them with the problem may help. They'll know who to call in this type of situation, and since they're a dealer they have a much higher chance of getting a response.

I'd do 2 12's sealed.

I think the space within a car audio environment is really the driving force behind car sub manufacturer's designs. You have to keep the box relatively small and not many manufacturers want to give up low end (for many different reasons, including consumers who specifically want a low end monster, having a flat response down to 30 hz or whatever for sq guys, etc.), so that means efficiency has to suffer. But if you could get a big van or something and have enough room for maybe 2 of those 104 db/watt efficiency drivers and the boxes they need (what like 20 cubes?), those would take the place of maybe 10 "normal" drivers. So even with a $1000 price tag they may be worth it if you consider the alternatives.
-
Hope you have a big trunk, a 5 hz tune with proper port area will be hella long. In that case you may as well go sealed because they play louder below the tune of a ported box. But not many pieces of music that most people listen to get that low.
-
Yeah they're a step above Audiobahn. I've never been a big fan of AB because their subs don't have great sq and the amps have reliability problems.

The problem is when people say "the BTL won't get loud off of only 500 watts, you should get the BTL." The truth is that because the BTL has higher efficiency, it should be louder off of 1 watt, 10 watts, 100 watts, 500 watts, 5000 watts, etc., than the BL or any other FI sub. so when somebody comes on and says "I want an FI sub, what would be loudest off of 200 watts?" The answer should be "BTL." edit- brian beat me to it.

Don't take me the wrong way. I'm a guy who has a pair of XXX18s and 5KW rms in my living room.. But I also see a lot of misinformation spread all the time, and this is one of those times. We are here to help each other, best way to do that is to get the facts straight when you give people advice. And saying a BTL needs more power to be any louder than any othe FI sub, is, well.... misinformation... then why dont you run 500 watts to your xxx's? why are you running 5k to them? I don't want to take the words out of 95's mouth or try to represent him, but I believe the point he's getting at is that you don't NEED 5000 watts. At 500 watts the BTL should still be the loudest of the FI bunch because of its higher efficiency. However you can obviously get even louder with the BTL due to its higher power handling than the rest. Which is also why he has 5k on his XXX's. He doesn't NEED it, he WANTS it to get even louder.

I saw all this coming from the first post because I understood where 95Honda was going. Bigjon, I don't think you're realizing just which point he was saying hondaccord and hayes made. I believe he's going in the direction about him making the point of misinformation being spread. Not that the BTL wouldn't be louder with 500 watts. I suppose some people could make the point that they think subs sound better or whatever when being pushed near capacity than when they're only receiving fractional power. Which could be a matter of opinion, though most parameter graphs would dispute that. and yeah I know about not receiving actual RMS power 99.9% of the time with music, I'm just saying....... I know my SI D2 sounded good off of only 200 watts . Maybe even better than with 1000. I think some of it had to do with the amps, though. One being a big class D and the other a smaller AB. *sigh* yeah I'm one of those who thinks there may be an audible difference between D and AB

how is coasting hard on brakes? I'm also unsure how engine braking turns off the injectors when doing this raises your RPMs when you first downshift, which I figure would need *more* fuel.

close your door. hehe

you should have all the holes covered up on the door panel that the speaker is mounted to. I don't know that you'll feel it very much in your chest, but there should be some noticeable air movement against your pant leg I'd guess.

I'm trying to persuade my gf to watch "Toys" with me. I described it as colorful, imaginative, and eccentric, and she said she doesn't like eccentric movies. Any of you seen it?

I think I'm going to repay off my car loan pretty soon. I only have about 2,000 left on it. I'd also like to repay one of my student loans, which also has about 2,000 on it. If I didn't repay these loans I'd be making 4 different payments on loans each month pretty soon. yuck. Luckily two of them are only 50/month. Then I'm trying to decide on if I want to save up to pay off my big student loan or for the down payment on a house first. I think I can get one or the other in 2-3 years, maybe both in 5 (given I stay at the job I just got). After the discussion we had a few weeks ago on here about houses and all, it seems like buying a house sooner would be better since it would hopefully/probably appreciate in value. I guess at that point it would be figuring out which would be larger, the appreciation on the house or the interest rate on the loan. But who really knows at what rate the house will appreciate? Half of my student loan is at fixed 6.5% and the other half is variable, I think at around 7.5% right now. I figure the house would be better than that, but I just hate having debt. One big loan wouldn't scare me as much as the 4 smaller ones I'm about to have. I guess I'm weird like that.

Apparently I pissed a guy off this morning because I didn't push a yellow light. we were in the left turn lane and the light had already been yellow for 3-4 cars so I decided to stop. I guess he wanted me to go because he slammed his brakes right behind me then revved his engine (one of those new Hemi Jeeps). So I figured he'd hot dog it around me once the light turned green. And sure enough he did. Kinda almost hoped he'd get loose and fishtail into the curb or something. There was some traffic merging onto the right lane of the 4 lane road we just turned left onto and he almost hit them, then quickly swerved back into my lane in front of me and slammed on his brakes because there was a car about 30 feet in front of me going slower than the 60 he was doing (speed limit 40). Cool, you really showed me. I bet you're an awesome person. I was so happy when that car he got behind kept going 40 mph and there was a semi in the right lane trapping him in. Just relax, dude.

I don't like running amps below rated impedence at all. Box rise doesn't make me feel safe so I don't count on it.
