what about adding another baffle on the front of the box to bring the sub out a little more? I assume the basket it hitting the MDF for the top/bottom? It may not look the best but you could build a bigger baffle to go on the front and that should give you the clearance for the basket to clear the second (original) baffle. if you don't want to build another box, that is. Or else put the sub on a different face.

Have the 40 hour Osha HAZWOPER training this week.

was the sub too tall for the front baffle or what?

ratio of 8:1 or less. vertical or horizontal doesn't matter, because flip the box and horizontal becomes vertical, ha. The reason for not having a long, narrow port has to do with surface area. The more rectangular a port is, the more surface area it has, and thus more resistance to air flow.

ha well after I got back to the exam room she said "you don't look so good, are you all right?" I said yeah i guess i just got light headed standing up after having that blood taken. She said "well, you're in the best place to pass out." I'da lived.

no your number of drivers aren't cut in half. You just have to use more amplifier channels. So instead of using just a 2 channel for your fronts like you would with a passive crossover system, you use a 4 channel amplifier for the front stage. Active is advantageous because you can control the crossover points as well as the power going to each driver. You can also decide the slope of the crossover if you choose to by buying a crossover suitable to your wants.

i'm not sure I know what you mean. By 2 way crossover do you mean a passive crossover in the speaker wires or a crossover in the signal chain? both can be 2 way crossovers, and both still need an amp. Active needs each speaker on its own channel.

try searching for threads here. lots of info and links within.

Be thankful you don't have to have an anal probe. that's true. good luck. Just waxed the Explorer. Man it's hot as blazes out there, even in the shade. I looked like I just took a jump into a swimming pool with all my clothes on. I was having a hard time keeping my sweat from dripping onto the panels I was working on. Wednesday I had to do a physical for work and one thing they had to do was draw blood. I think they drew......maybe 20 ml? into a syringe. Then the nurse was like ok let's go get a urine sample. So I got up, not 5 seconds removed from having the blood drawn. I guess that wasn't too awesome of an idea. As I got out the door and started walking down the hall the walls started creeping in and blackness and very blurry/nonexistant vision took over. I could barely make out outlines of things, and luckily the nurse was wearing a very dark colored shirt and the walls were white because I could just barely make out the difference of the two and just followed the dark blob. my legs felt strong and fine, I just couldn't see. I saw her stop so I figured we were at the bathroom, so i reached my hands out to try to feel the door jam. I couldn't see my hands but i felt them find the door and I kinda guided myself in. Then things started to slowly clear up, but I started just pouring sweat. I looked in the mirror and i was pale as a ghost except for reddish purple rings under my eyes. During all this I was like man this is the weirdest thing ever, it kinda freaked me out. Then after I got back to the room I was like man, that was awesome.

I didn't go to bed till 1:30 last night and yet I still woke up at 7 today even though I don't have to work. dammit. I wanted more sleep.

There are 10 mm in a cm and 2.54 cm in an inch. So 25.4 mm in an inch. That's what I always remember as my baseline for how far things move in inches. So with your 3/4" baffle the sub will only be moving out an extra .3 of an inch or so. based on where I guesstimate your sub is within that ring, you'll be fine.
-
yeah I popped in at about 1:00 last night for the first time ever and saw your name in there as the only person. But then I popped back out and went to bed.

I wouldn't worry about not having a double front baffle. That box is so small that I don't really know that it would help at all. and as for space concerns, I'd try it with that size for a while to see how you like it, then maybe add polyfill as others have suggested and compare. You can always take the polyfill back out.

Worked 15.5 hours today and the boss rounded it up so I wouldn't have to go into work tomorrow. sweeeeet. Who says state guys don't work long hours sometimes?

oops i signed off right after posting that.

port off axis means the port and sub are on two different faces of the box. e.g.- sub up, port back.

Great looking build

I know that song but can't remember it. My brother told me to listen to it. The lyrics were decently clever but I hated the style.

Good starting points, but to me sub should be lower. More like 40hz or lower if possible. Part of the reason being the lower you can get your sub crossed over the easier it will be for you to get the mystical and much sought after "up front" bass I don't disagree. I've never tried 40 hz, that seems way low for me, haha. and I don't know that my 6.5" XR mids would like to play below 70 hz or so with much authority. But I did notice a big difference in lowering my sub's crossover from 80 to 65. blends soooo much better.

if you want a general, general, GENERAL range just for some kind of indication, here's what I figure: Tweeter- 3500 and up midrange- 300 to 3500 midbass- 65-300 subwoofer- 65 and down. The tweeter and midrange will generally vary the most. If you use a horn for the highs, some of them can do 1,500-2000 and up, then your midrange will play below that. Some tweeters don't like to play below 4,000 hz. Some mids don't like to play above 2,500, others can't keep up below 100 for midbass duty if just doing a 2-way. Just for some examples of the variability.

sub/ amp problem

haha. maybe jeezy just uses some basslines below your tune? rap artists sometimes also crank the bassline level when they record and may even record a clipped signal. -
watching my grandma's second husband slowly deteriorate from emphysema two years ago was the worst thing ever. Well, second worst. First was getting a phone call from my brother the day I bought my new (used) car last year and hearing him tell me my other grandma had an accident on the farm and died. There still is hardly a day that goes by that I don't think about either of them. I've been pretty close with all my grandparents and step-grandparents. It sucks because I still think of them as "young" 60 year olds like they were when I was younger, but then reality sets in and they're 75 and it's just like, man......... They may be stubborn and less educated than we are today but they all have that wisdom.

I have a Mag......v2, I think. It's great. If you can manage to find four 15's (v3's are even better), it would be awesome.

depends on the size of the two. and tuning frequency. and frequency being played.
