    Welcome to the IHoP

I've been saying for years how retarded it is that it gets so much attention and drama.

I never knew it was a problem. But you see this a lot? Maybe I'll have to rethink things.......

    Alternator Question

i think with those amps you would be better off getting the BL's plus they have free cooling now that saves you another $40 p/sub BTL will play nice of a Saz 3000D But to get to your guestion a 1500 will work nicely of a 140 Amps alt. for a single 3000D a 200 amp alt will work nice with an upgraded battery. **Remember what might be said to be the best, might not always be the best for you. The BTL will also play nice off of the 1500. 140 amp alt should be ok for the 1500. Make sure your battery is also strong. If you have any other amps you might consider getting an additional battery.

    12"BTL or 15"BTL

why wouldn't that amp work for the 15 if it works for the 12? To me it comes down to space when deciding between 12 vs 15. Figure that out.

Can someone check the tuning for me?

Port displacement is 1.42 cubes. sub displacement?????? I'm guessing .2 cubes. Therefore, box volume is 6.4 cubes. tuned to 34 hz according to winISD. What's 10.57 in. diameter?
  6. If nobody knows, try emailing PG. I got an answer from JL when I emailed them about the XR crossover points.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Took off work tomorrow, hooray! Actually the thing I'm looking forward to the most is sleeping in........until 7:30 probably. But I only took off because we'll be traveling to my aunt's wedding that's tomorrow night. Then on Saturday I have another wedding to go to in my gf's family that's 1920s-themed. Too many weddings in one weekend. If I hear the chicken dance one time it'll be too many. If I hear it twice I'll shoot myself.
  8. oh, right. He already has it. Well nvm then. As I'm sure you've read, Mach5 recommends 4.6 cubes sealed for that 18. Even with polyfill a 3 cube enclosure won't react like a 4.6. If you have a lot of processing that could lower the peakiness of that smaller enclosure to bring it to the relatively low output lowend it might work. But....... I think the JLs would be better and much easier to implement.

    sq design

Have to be careful, some of that is marketing with some companies. But also quite a bit of it is the cheapness of power these days. If you remember Hoffman's Iron Law, it says you can have two of the following three: small box, efficiency, or lowend extension. If you can throw gobs of power at a sub, it doesn't really need to be efficient. So you can lower that so that a smaller box can be used while maintaining the lows.

Throw a few subs at me!

    I would like, please.

    Wiring ?'s

Well you asked about 5 subs, so why wouldn't 4 work? Or was 5 just an arbitrary example? And why not tell us all that this system entails so that we know what's actually going on and can maybe help further.
  12. I'd just keep it simple and do the one amp. Then once you want to run fully active, trade the Rockford off for a different amp to run the subs and use the Sundown 100.4 to run active to the comps.

    Wiring ?'s

    why not just get 4?
  14. why not get an IXL 15" and put it in that 3 cubes sealed?

    Welcome to the IHoP

I started a fire in the kitchen tonight. I was heating up some oil (per a recipe) in a pan on the stove and it caught on fire. My gf FREAKED. I was like holy shit, calm down. This was while I was holding the flaming pan off the stove in my hand, there was only a small amount of oil so I figured I'd just let it burn off. She was like we gotta do something we gotta do something POUR WATER ON IT! I said noooo, pouring water on it is bad. get me a lid from down there and we'll smother it. But it was already going out by the time she got the lid to me. Her cooking skills worry me sometimes......most of the time. Don't even get me started on her use of knives. How she still has all her fingers I don't know. I guess I got a little too hot for that oil. oops. It was exciting though. But now my room smells like burnt oil and grease. Lit a candle but I think I need about 18 more to do the job.

    sub firing direction

you'll want to downfire them. Sounds much better under seats.

Throw a few subs at me!

What about the magnet makes it garbage? Is it because there's only one?

    Did I make a mistake with the 15" BL's?

build the box normally, however you want it. Generally subs and port on the same face. Then once you get it to the car, try it both forwards and backwards. If you think having it backwards is the best, keep it there. If you think facing forwards is better, keep it there. Sealing it off behind the front baffle just means sealing the edges outside of the box to the sides of your car. Nothing to do with port or subs. It's basically a false baffle that extends from your box to the sides of your car, on both sides and on top. That way the subs fire into the cabin and because the trunk is effectively sealed off from the cabin, the bass stays in the cabin.
  23. definitely. I want to see how bright it shines so that I know if I want to buy one too.

    Q18s... not very loud

Try putting a different source signal into the amp. That'll let you know if the head unit is bad. Also, do you turn the subwoofer level up on the head unit?
