yikes, you really need to put that next to the battery. That fuse is to protect the wire. If your wire shorts out somewhere between the battery and the backseat, what happens? Your car burns down. Having the fuse back there really doesn't do any good. As for the terminal.......just crimp it better? I've never had a problem I guess. Try getting some ring terminals that have a split down the wire crimp end. When you crimp it, only half of the terminal crimps onto the wire at a time with that, so it's not so hard to apply more pressure and get it tight.

Quickie question, hopefully an easy one
KU40 replied to christobear's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
no. I don't really like that suggestion of a certain amount of port per cubic foot, because the amount of port needed really depends on the displacement the driver has. If you have a sub with only 5 mm of xmax, it's going to need a MUCH smaller port than one with 30 mm xmax. The size of the port needs to be relational to the amount of air that the sub will push. So, in order to really answer your question, you'll need to tell us what sub you will be using. -
This was taken across a bay, I forget which one. We were closer to it when we took a 30 minute plane ride to the north to go salmon fishing in a river, but my camera batteries went out the day before . But that was pretty much the most spectacular thing I've ever seen. It was a clear day like in yours.

What is this fuse for, an amp without onboard fuses? Do you already have one right next to the battery under the hood? Can you give us pictures so that we can see what kind of a fuse holder you're dealing with here

But I do have to question the port firing into the trunk theory. Where did you hear that from, and how was it shown to be good? I can't really think of a reason why that would be good, because the waves coming out of the port would just go into the trunk and basically stay there. I don't think that orientation is optimal. If you put a ported box for two of those BTLs in your backseat it will be large enough to basically be a wall, so you may as well actually make one. Just make sure you secure it to the vehicle, that's a lot of mass coming at you in an accident if it's free.

Let's all try and remain constructive and not bag on Randy thinking he can't do it.

dynamat doesn't automatically increase your loudness by 3 db. As dbjunior said, it can hurt scores. When dynamat marketing says you'll gain 3 db, it leaves out the important part, which is that it only makes your stereo SEEM 3 db's louder because it cuts the ambient noise down. So if the ambient noise (road noise, rattles, etc.) are 80 db as you are driving and your stereo is 130 db, you have a 50 db separation between the two. But if the dynamat lowers the ambient noise down to 77 db (3 db down), your stereo will likely stay at 130 db but you'll still have a difference of 53 db. This isn't to say it CAN'T help your score. Just that you can't automatically assume an increase, and a decrease is possible. Also, you cannot just add several dbs for having extra power and better subs. Loudness is not linear like that. Getting up to 156-158 db is actually pretty hard to do. But good luck. Where are you going to fit three alternators on that engine?

A clipped signal won't inherently damage your subs. As long as the sub is getting the same power as an unclipped signal, it doesn't matter. So the only difference is that maybe you only need to turn the head unit volume to 28 instead of 30 to get full volume. But there's also the degraded sound quality. But that doesn't hurt subs either, it just sounds worse.

yeah you can twist the two wires together and use them for one lead, then twist another length to use for the other lead. I've done it before. It's just wire, it doesn't care how it's used or know the difference between whether it is + or -.

No excuses.

As opposed to......unstraight amps? Homosexual amps? crooked amps?

2,000 watts is definitely enough for two Qs.

I'm hoping my gf's dad gives her a bunch of firewood to bring back to me today. They had a neighbor's tree fall over their fence and I think he still has it just sitting back there. I hope so. I love fires, but not enough to pay $150 a cord from people around here. I know that's a lot of wood, but that's a lot of money, too. If nothing else I'll just go ditch diving around here to get some. It's free if it's in the ditch, and I kinda enjoy gathering.

What is with the HOP being on the second page of the new posts? Unacceptable! Snowed a touch last night, basically enough to cover the ground.

oh, good. Thanks for sparing us. Just kidding. Definitely feel free to vent here if you need to. There will be people to listen.

Sub for Small Sealed Enclosure and Lower Power
KU40 replied to tsheehan7's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
BM works in as small as .5 cubes. OR.......you could mount an MDF mounting baffle onto the front and cut the size down to fit a 10" sub and pretty much pick any on the market..... -
Apparently you should invite your friend to join the forum.

six 6x9's? and there were still other speakers in there? What in the world......

Sub for Small Sealed Enclosure and Lower Power

Maybe see if you can find a used Stereo Integrity BM. The new version is still a couple months away, though. -
haha I was thinking the same thing.

14.9 isn't too high for that amp. With only a 100.4 hooked up, the charging system should hardly know it's there.
