First and foremost, he is confusing impedance and resistance. The impedance of each coil is 2 ohms, but the resistance is about 1.4 ohms. That's why when you wire in parallel you'll get 1 ohm impedance, 0.7 ohms resistance (aka DCR). You should probably find somebody who knows the difference between the two before you let them work on installing the equipment. As for voltage dropping too low, can't really tell before it goes into the car and you monitor it firsthand. But with a 120 amp alternator I think you'll be ok unless you play it for extended periods with the car off or at idle.

If JL won't give you a recone kit, they may not make them. Call a dealer store and ask. If a dealer can't get them either, you're SOL I'm afraid. Fi or others may be able to recone it, but it won't perform nearly the same because it will be totally differently-spec'd soft parts than what came stock with the sub.

No. You increase the chance of blowing the subs with that. Your door speakers don't have highpass crossovers on them, do they? Get some. Then you can turn the bass level on the headunit to 0 like it should be and things will be better.

Here is a lot of your problem I bet. Set this to flat (0). What you were doing with that was cutting the signal at the head unit, then using the bass boost on the amp to effectively try and ramp it back up.

Kinda OT, but what is the Bass EQ good for then? Seems like it's pretty pointless? Marketing to unknowing young'uns. To the OP, turn the bass EQ all the way down. Turn the low pass filter to around 70-80 hz, and if it has a subsonic, turn that to 28 hz or so. I imagine that amp has a switch for high pass/low pass crossover? Make sure it's on low pass. Are the RCAs from the head unit on a dedicated sub output? Does the head unit have a subwoofer level control setting (like 0-15, etc.)?

What is the tuning frequency

It will make noise. Power handling will be very reduced in the larger box, though, so lower the gain accordingly or else you're not going to have any subs.

Maybe 60-70% of whatever you paid for it.

Basically every recone costs 80-100. I actually haven't seen many if any cheaper than that.
