Are you sure that the tuning frequency isn't increasing as you cut down on the port? But this is just more evidence that nothing in SPL always goes along with theories.

FI BTL SETUP/ELECTRICAL

Get a 1/0 gauge wire kit. You can't really figure out box specs until you get the new car so that you'll know what will fit. -
What head unit do you have? Do a search on here and you'll find discussions on active vs. passive.

what to set lpf and ssf at
KU40 replied to loondizie52's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
What is your box tuned to? If it's somewhere around 30-32 hz, a subsonic of about 25 hz works. My lowpass is at about 70 hz, but it depends on how good your interior speakers are. -
I watched the first movie on it today, Rescue Dawn. It was a bit weird. I'm not sure if it was the movie's filmography style or just the crispness of the screen plus 120 hz super-fluid motion, but it seemed so detailed that it either seemed real or like an obvious fake set. I guess it looked like I was there, or like a documentary, like when you watch discovery HD and they're visiting some African tribe. It was the first time I had watched the movie so I have nothing to compare it to. But it really took away from the "cinema" type movie style, which kinda stunk. I'm anxious to watch something else that I've already seen to compare and help figure this out.

Nintendo and super Nintendo FTMFW!!!1!!1one!11 That is just about more bass ass than anything that has ever been. I bow to your superiority. Haha thanks. I still have some arranging and cleaning up of wires to do, as you can see. I'm a slow mover-inner. But of course the HT has to be set up first. Kinda stinks that I took the picture when a dark frame was on the TV.

you need hdmi out on the cable box. that will solve the problem and you deserve digital video, you're paying for it right? Damn right.
-
You need to go get an HD cable box, if it is Cox it will be another 5$ a month I believe. You can get HD out of coax I think but you will be running multiple co-ax cables. That's bullshit. I'm paying for HD cable. They should be giving me an HD box (since I got the cable box from Sunflower, the provider).

alternator problem?
KU40 replied to Lucky 76's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
In my old car the check engine light came on when the alternator was starting to fail. When you're coasting, the RPMs are down so the alternator isn't putting out as much current. Don't beat very long if your foot isn't on the gas. -
Wow man. You totally abuse the sub and wonder why it breaks? Seriously? If you can't afford to fix it, don't break it. Just play the thing. If you think it's already messed up, what can it hurt. If it still plays, you're fine and consider it a warning.

How do you have it wired to that SAE1200? With a dual 1 you can either get .5 or 2 ohms, neither of which are optimal for that amp. Find something that puts out its power at 2 ohms so you can wire the voice coils in series. But really I'd recommend saving up. 350 dollars won't get you a great 2000 watt amplifier. For that price you won't find anything better than what you already have. Maybe instead of selling it to him, try to find another SAE1200. They aren't strappable, but you could still just put one on each voice coil.

You could try epoxying the metal back together. But if you don't fit it back just right the cone won't be linear. I wouldn't expect great results from it, but you could do it just to fool around. Or you could probably send it back to Fi and they could get a new basket put on it. Maybe they'd even send you a basket and recone kit to do it yourself.
-
Technically that shouldn't happen, as Bl, linearity, etc. always go down as excursion increases (with more power supplied). But the feel of the bass that is more prevalent at higher output levels is more satisfying to many people.

It seems that I have almost half of the posts on the last few pages. What is everybody doing that is more important than this? Though work will take me out of town for the first couple days of this week so I won't be posting. So I guess I'm just making up for that now.

Speaking of stinks, man my gas smells completely rotten. What did I EAT? Maybe it was the chili for lunch yesterday. They added some peppers or something to it since the last time I was there, it was definitely more spicy.

Haircut, check the old apartment's mail for the last time, then the gym for a workout. I think a family moved in above me. That kinda stinks.
-
That's what I was thinking too. Except my box doesn't even have an s-video output. It's either coax or component. I tried running component and it was the same way.

alternator problem?
KU40 replied to Lucky 76's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
You need extra batteries. -
Well my TV is awesome, but you really need HD-oriented accessories. Even the PS2 is a little blurry. Still awesome having larger characters though. But for some reason my HD channels on cable don't work. The audio is fine, but the screen is just black. They didn't give me a cable box with an HDMI output on it, only coaxial. Is that the problem?

Sealed box: .8-1.5 cuft Ported box: 1.8-2.5 cuft @ 28-33Hz You'll probably want 20-30 sq. inches of port area. Length of the port depends on the size of the enclosure once you figure out port area.
-
Pictures are kinda blurry, can't really see what you're talking about. I'd say if it plays fine, there's nothing to worry about.

I'm not a big fan of the tires. IMO, the tires should match the era of the car, and I'm fairly sure they didn't have directional tread 30 years ago. It just needs some sport tires.
