Well, since the mags went on backorder i went to a shop owned by my cousin, and he hooked me up w/ an L7 12", on a price i couldn't really resist. sooo, after 2 days of hell making my box, i finally put it in the Jeep about an hour ago, and have been able to get an idea of what it can do (turned the amp's gain up to 4v for about 1 min.. JBL 1200.1). I'm using my friends 1200.1, and i'm very suprised at what this sub did for not being broken in, and being in a 2.2 cube box tuned to 43 hz. the box is as close to kicker "street bass" as i can get. :boink: :boink: but wow, this L7 blows the doors off the HC i had in there in terms of output hands down. They were both on 1200 watts, but the HC had a 5 cube box tuned to 35 hz. Needless to say, i am really happy i went with the L7, but i also regret that i couldn't get to use the Mag 12. Oh, and there is also an eD B2 that just came in the mail today.. but i'm not going to be using it.

there is a huge Arlen Ness tent, West Coast is nearly always there, OCC is def. coming, Indian Larry doesn't make bikes anymore :thud: Billy Lane will be here too. There are so many good bike builders here that it's just impossible to see them all. I'll get some pics posted by sat/sun because all the big dogs show up on thursday.

for those of you who know about bike week, (if you've watched "biker buildoff", "American Chopper", or just the discovery channel you know what it is.. haha). it's starting :boink: time to say goodbye to the tire on my gixxer i'll make sure i get some pics of the sick bikes that are going to be EVERYWHERE around here.. i'm like 5 mins from bike week ground zero.. The backseat is going to go back in soon, but the box needs a little modification.. she needs to move back a couple of inches before the seat will go back in (bolt that i didn't find untill we tried to put the box in.. which fits wayyy tight) edit- also going to do some spray on bedliner for the covering.. i don't want to work w/ carpet, and this box needs to be waterproof.. damn jeeps. here's a pic of my old box w/ water damage

jbl is a sub killer for sure, especially if it doesn't have a REALLY good ground. i think that the JBL i borrowed from a friend is cursed, it blew 2 L7 15"s, and i think it just blew my brand new L7 12.. and no i wasn't playing volume master, the gain was low, much lower than the 4v on the input of the amp itself.. the deck was never turned up more than 3/4 for more than 10 seconds (had to do it.. just had to). i was trying to break it in slowly.. Needless to say i'm pretty pissed about this whole situation, and i can't wait till i get paid and the amp i want to use shows up instead of the JBL temp that fudgeed up my sub. it clipped hardcore 2x, and then i heard some minor clips at very low volume (after each time i turned off immediately.. and lowered settings even more. amp never went into protection), and now my sub is buzzy.. GOD I HATE JBL right now, but at least i'll probly be able to exchange for a d2 solo instead of a d4.. and get the kicker/ppi amp that i wanted to begin with.

well, i was hoping to have pictures lastnight, but we got hit by a thunderstorm right when my friend got home from work.. soooo, hopefully i'll have some pictues tonight, unless i can get someone else w/ a digital camera to help me out. But, when you see it all the wiring in there is from an old install. the only cables that are actually working are the ones hooked up to the amp, and my speaker wire is long as hell because it was from a home system that i had and didn't want to cut it.. ect.. ect.. i just basically slammed it in there and turned it on. HAHA. Next week is when i really finish the install because i'll have my components, and new wiring.

Diamond Audio - (m5) 1st subs, and needless to say i beat them to hell. Clipped the amp, did everything wrong with this setup, and one of them is still in perfect condition.. the other got on the wrong side of 2000watts.. PPI- PCX-2125 amp.. all i have to say is this thing has been through hell and a half. I moved up to this amp and my cousin who owns a professional shop put it in.. needless to say i changed the settings immediately because i didn't have a clue what i was doing.. it was clipped, ran at 2.7 ohms for like 3 months, starved for voltage... and it still works like the day it came. Clarion- Sucks.. i haven't had good luck with them, they don't do much, and i blew them w/ 40 watts.. and the highs are tinny.. (bottom of the line stuff here folks). MTX- 1st amp i had, put that thing through it's paces for sure. she ended up meeting the magic smoke genie. but it definately worked very well for the time it was in operation. hahaha. RE- HC loved it, deep... deep... and deeper. The response in this thing was perfect for me. Friend has it in Daily use now, and it's still truckin. Kicker- ix series amp.. ended up getting this thing wet, so she's purty screeewed. Worked well for what i had it doing, but didn't shine like my PPI. eD- Find out in a few days SI- Find out in a a week or two :boink:

I'm going to be careful with the gains and my settings, i wouldn't want to blow it up, or make it sound like crap. But, i would like to make some nice excursion porn for those who would want to see it . And having extra power is always nice for when you want to shut up the ghetto blaster kids who never turn their system down.

well, now that i know that.. i think i'll get the 1500w brutus, haha was wondering what the warrantee was, i should have searched.. but whoops i just started typing and got carried away. haha. thanks for the info.

Doesn't RE have some box plans on their website? also, look into the gnomeaudio forums, he'd be more than happy to help you out for $. I stink at makin boxes, and all of his plans look very well designed, i havne't actually used any of them yet.. but most of his work looks very good. :Edit: i also think there are some free plans for a 12" hc in there.. so just make 2 of them next to eachother

Makes sense. i was just wondering because i was looking for some info on some eD stuff and remembered that the forum was there. And it wasn't there when i looked for it.. Then i read some old posts that seemed to bag on eD, and Josh's sig is about eD.. so i was just naturally curious. thanks for clearing it up.

give it the 900w rms and it will get a bit louder. assuming that doubling the power will gain 3db, you should gain a little bit.. i forget how many dB sounds like double the output.. it might be 3, but then again it is more than likely a lot higher than that. A bigger box tuned higher will help it peak better.. but, you are trying to catch 2 12" woofers, and a stroker.. that's a bit of competition even if the stroker is sealed and the type-R's were getting decent power for them. I'm going to be giving a magnum 6-700 watts @ 4 ohms too, but i will be stepping up to a Hifonics 1000d not long after i get the mag all warmed up for some more power, might do a 1500d, but i don't want to void the warantee. Oh, and for the warantee, is it rated watts rms, or is it actual watts rms? because i was thinking about getting a ppi amp, or another higher quality amp that is rated at 12.2 volts instead of 14.4 v, would the fact that the PPI is more than likely putting out more than reccomended RMS going to affect the warantee?

do you have the wrong high pass/low pass on the sub? I always get confused on this too, you could have the filter that cuts out all frequencies below a certain point on.. maybe you should take a looksy @ the manual and find out where the filters are, and where it should be when running subs.
