Amp not putting out much sound
Jpm4536 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have a us acoustics usx2080 that i got from Audio Clinic off of ebay and it is hooked up to my pioneer premiere 720prs speakers and it just doesn't seem much louder than the radio straight to the speaker. My gain is at about 3/4 which seems kinda high to me but thats where the DMM put it. My HU is an Alpine 9885 and i used a 1000hz wave to set my gain to 17.9 volts. Someone told me it may be an install problem but what kind of install problem could cause this? Wouldn't it be either working or not working? Also, how much louder should this amp be than the HU? Thanks for any help or tips!!! -
So anyone else with a recomendation?

You prefer passives to ports? What the hell does that mean? And doesn't your brother know it isn't good to mix different kinds of subs?
-
Yeah, you should just use the amp that is in the current box and hook it to a new box for a new 12 that will run on 200rms.... And port it too if you are just looking for louder.... Also, where did you get 200rms from? The specs on that say the subwoofer has 160 watts at 3 ohms and im betting that isnt rms or at least a little over rated....

15" sub that fits in the smallest possible sealed

Get a 12.... Thats a smaller sealed box for even a 12, lol... -
I don't really have any problem with the speakers right now as much as i do with the sub.... I only have money to do one right now and would rather go with the sub.... I will eventually replace the speakers but i might just wait till one goes bad or something... The sub is definitely the weak point of the system... The speakers came in a 800 dollar speaker setup which i know isn't a whole lot but they cant be just complete crap.... It was front two speakers, center channel, rear surround speakers, and a powered sub setup.... I would just like to replace the sub right now since it is the most noticeable weakness...

Thats about 1200 rms a piece which they should handle fine stock but you could get cooling on them or something..... Wouldn't put every option on it cause it would be a waste of money unless your pushing about 2000 rms to each....

IDK, i think i might just go with the FI cause the mach 5 subs are sold out everywhere.... I will look around at some 10" subs to go ported with but i would rather do a 12 because i have a ported 12 box at my house that would fit on my back seat if i ever wanted to redo the setup.... I also have a ported 10 box but its too wide and i would rather have the output of the 12 if i had the choice....

Ok well i need suggestions for a home audio setup for my room.... Once i get a little money i might re-do it.... I have an older (maybe 8-10 years old) Technics reciever and it is fine so i don't see any reason to get rid of it... I also have some jbl speakers from a Home-Theatre-In-The-Box type thing we bought a while back... There is a KLH sub in my room too that sucks pretty bad and would be the first thing to go.... It has a 125 watt plate amp on it but not sure how true that rating it, although i do believe it is rms.... My budget is $300 bucks for a subwoofer amp.... How much would a decent 500 watt RMS amp cost and would it be a direct hookup to where my powered sub right now is? I would build a new box and buy a sub to match whatever amp i buy... I havent really found many sites with home audio amps other than PE and Madisound and im not really sure which ones are decent and which ones aren't.... Also, is there any way to hook my ipod up to my HT? I really would like to listen to more music on it than what is on the radio.... It doesn't have a cd player hooked up to it which i will put on soon but i would still like to use my ipod and would rather use the jack in the bottom than the aux output cause it sounds worse.... Any help is appreciated.... Also, im not looking for suggestions on buying a new reciever or new speakers right now so don't bother, cause i don't have the money even if i wanted to redo them and they perform fine for me....

Oh, i mis-read the post... I think i might just do sealed for the ease of installation and the fact that in order to get a cube ported it has to be bigger than that for port volume...
-
I don't have room for ported though, 1 cf is my max... Also, would a ported 10 vs a single 12 of an ssd be around the same output?
-
That BTL can handle like two or three times the rms rating of it for a little bit and is a pretty high dollar sub and if it were going through a dealer would likely be twice what it is now... Unless your friends have like two 15" higher end subs, you will be close to them....
-
Gotta remember every time you add another driver you pretty much double your expenses... The 6 8" subs might be cooler than the single 15 but is it 6 times as cool?
-
So does anyone else have a recomendation that would either be cheaper than the fi and perform as good or a little more expensive and perform better?
-
A pair of fi btl's?
