Grounding question
blue86f150 replied to blue86f150's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Thnks for the reply, thats how im gonna do it when i get my new system. Its gonna consist of: 2 10" icon+sundown packages 1 100.2 for each door (2 total) alpine 9887 (have 9885 right now, love it) 4 yellow tops several runs of 0/1 or 0/2 wire....... you get the point. -
All right, i have a question about grounding. I have an 1 F capacitor, got it for free and just using it untill i have enough to buy all new equipment for my truck. I was wondering if it would be alright if i grounded my amplifier to my capacitor, and then my capacitor to my floor? would there be any problems in that? thanks, scott Edit: This is gonna be for my sub amp

D@mn That is clean. -
I have the 12" shallow mount pionneer in my truck right now. it gets the job done. havent heard the 8 or 10 inch ones, but i believe they might be the same. If you are gonna go for sq, this is most likely not the right sub for you. But they do get loud enough for me (125 db in a ported box, not to great). Here it is in action

Alternator wiring help
blue86f150 replied to blue86f150's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
That is exactly wat i did. Just got back from the alternator shop. Charged me 60 bucks, but its cheaper than spending 150 bucks on a new one, also now that i have the wiring in and it goes out, all i have to do is get another mustang one and put it in and im all set. Mods, you can delete if you want -
Alternator wiring help
blue86f150 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have a 86 150 with a 5.0 in it. It came stock with a 60 amp alternator. My neighbor gave me box full of stuff he took off of a 94 mustang 5.0 H.O. One of the parts happend to be a stock 130 amp alternator. Since i need to get a bigger alternator anyways and strapped for cash i figured i can use this alternator. Its a direct bolt in, but the plugs are different though. My stock one has 2 plugs instead of the one plug. But one of the plugs on my wiring harness is the same style plug on the new(er) one. So wat i did is that i plugged(sp) in the plug that looked the same and hooked up a 4 guage power wire directly to my battery. Installed it and cranked it over, it wasnt charging, then i Thought that the spot with the "No idea" lable was a switch 12 volt source so i hooked(sp) it up and still nothing happened. So i am stumped, anyone have any ideas why its not working? -

That might be one reason why it is not working. I have no idea on where to hook up the ground to, any ideas? But if you mean the big 3 havent done it yet. -
Since its sounds like you will like an Semi SQ setup and you are trying to find a 1000d for under 400, ever thought of doing the package deals: 10" Icon+1000d=$479 12" Icon+1000d=$499 15" Icon+1000d=$519 That seems like it will be the better road for you to go down.

The whole steering seems a bit scary for 40" tires... Its actually really sturdy. I believe they are 1" thick steel rods. On the other hand, he is a scrary driver with 40" tires

45 Psi is way to much. I used to work at Americas Tire/ Discount tires (not sure wat they are called where you live). I would always put the tires to the recommened pressure that the manufacture puts for the car, never go off side wall # on the tire. the only time you use those #'s is when you carry heavy loads in the back a truck, or on trailer tires. IF you want, you can put the pressure to 35 psi and ull be fine, but it being at 45 psi, ur tires will wear unevenly, as in the center will become bald before the rest of the tire. There are exceptions to the rules though:(but for your car, between 30 and 35 psi is good, just no more) Example One of my buddys used to own a '99 tacoma that had 35" Mud Terrain tires(ill find a pic to show yall, thing almost never got stuck, good times good times). He put 35 psi in it, and it was wearing out the center of the tire. The only reason why was cause the tires that he had were rated at 2,500 pounds per tire, the truck wasnt heavy enough to way the tires down Just a little muddy, FYI the truck is green. Too bad he sold it, but he now has this: Those are 40" tires, just to give some perspective, and he only runs 40 psi in those tires

What size should i go, it will be either 1 5" or 2 4" ports
-
Ok, I have done the measurments for my truck and i should be able to fit 2 10" icons in my truck. They will be in a 2.5ft^3 box after driver and port displacement. I used the calculator at carstero.com and it says that i need a ~8" diameter port for the box tuned to 30 hz. Would that be a suitable frequency for that size box? If so the only opitions for port size is a single 5" port 27" long, or two 4" ports at 20" long? The single port will be on the driver side firing into the side of the cab, and the 2 ports will be on either side of the box. Will ports that small be choaking(spell check) the air flow, or will they be fine? im leaning towards the 2 4" ports though. Just so everyone knows, i listen to all types of music, but mostly country and rap. Ill have a drawing up in a few minutes to show where i will put the ports. thanks for any and all help.

Thank you for the compliment. Yea thats wat i was going for. All my friends and family thought that i was insane in doing that big of a stripe. And all but one of my friends thinks it looks awsome. Cant win them all. In my area there are a lot of this body style truck with newer paint jobs, and none of them have the stripe goin down the side. It sets my truck off from the rest of the crowd... Now i just need to find a way to put 2 12" icons, 2 sundown 1000d's, and a new amp for my fronts (most likely sundown again) in there Hopefully i can get this new job and have enough saved up for everything in about 2 months.
