i just purchased 2 10" icons for my 2003 mitsu evo 8. i need help with the best box design for my trunk. im looking for the loudest set up i can get. so far im thinking about firing them towards the cabin and have the port fire the same way in a 3cf box tuned to 32hz. there is only a metal cross brace between the seat and trunk. other options are to fire them towards the back and have the port the same way, but i want a custom install so it would be walled off, not sure if this would hurt sound. finally, i was thinking about firing them back and have the ports on top firing through my rear deck speaker holes (i removed my rear deck speakers) and create a kind of bandpass box. definitely need help as soon as possible as my car is currently at a stereo shop having alot of work done. if you choose "other" in the poll, please post what you recommend. thanks! here is what my trunk looks like right now, going to be removing everything for the install but just wanted to give you guys an idea. http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0442.html http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0444.html

Javin, never knew you posted the pics! looks great and as everyone can imagine, i am definitely happy with the set up. this set up is ALOT louder than my old set up and so damn clean with the install and sound! btw Javin, i have an idea for my truck, think it should be another surprise for you! will contact you soon!

didnt think about these, how do they compare to the other subs? mounting depth seems to be right, just wondering how they compare?

looking to add subs to my '03 f250 crew cab truck. i found a premade box that has received numerous positive reviews by other f250 owners. the box can fit 3 shallow mount 12s, but im not sure who makes the best ones. i know jl and pioneer make some, but have not heard good reviews about them. what do you guys suggest? here is the box im thinking about getting: http://www.supercrewsound.com/shop/detail/11/269.htm

the dimensions of the box seems to be what will exactly fit, its behing the rear seat of the truck so not too much room, my truck is at the shop, so i can measure, but i believe they made that box to be the largest box that can fit in there. the space inside is what seems to be open to whatever can fit in there.

dang, the bm's are the ones that would work. the mags require too much room as the mounting depth is right but the cf of air space is too small. they also make the box available for 4-8's or 3-10s'. any other subs? depending on the wait for the bm, im willing to consider others. i would really like the bm, but dont want to wait months to get it.

i forgot to add this sub, seems like the bm would be a better fit, not sure if the mag would fit. where can i order either one? seems like they are not available on their site yet. any eta?

please post what are the best 2000watt amps @ 2ohms. looking for something thats consistant or under rated at 2000 watts. it will be used to run 2 10" ssa icons in a ported enclosure.

well right now im running a mtx 1501d (2004 model) and i just want to give the subs optimal power, i believe rms is around 1200, so i think a 1000-1100 to each sub would be perfect.

it would be for just appearance as there is no way for me to totally seal it due to the trunk hinges, the panel will be very snug with the exception of the slots cut out for the trunk hinges to go through. it would just be for looks. so with this, i should definitely try to port up towards the rear deck speaker holes and have the subs facing the cabin? well what i meant by sealing off is that making a trim panel around the box to kind of make a wall, i cant totally seal it off due to the trunk hinges so i would have to cut around those. the panel would be kind of thin and velcroed or something so it can be removed. not sure if ive exlpained it well.

does this mean that the box would atleast have to be 15in in height? im trying to make it so i can still try to get the box out of the car and make it removable.

well i got about 35in wide and maybe 15in in height to work with. do you think i can port up and not have to go higher than the box into my rear speaker holes? You should have plenty of room to do a slot port up. With a 3" gap. I wouldn't port forward. by 3" gap do you mean 3 inches wide for the port? also my rear deck speaker holes are for 6.5" speakers, so would a slot port still work or would a round port be better? do i need 2 ports? what should the port length be?

well the reason for tuning at 32hz is because i asked mark (ssa) and he said 3cf tuned to 32hz would be best. i figured this frequency is what they found to be best for the size of the box. i dont think i can port up as im going to make the box removable, so the ports cant go all the way to the rear deck. if its possible to have them go up just to the top of the box, then this is possible. also, is it best to have the subs and port facing the same way? do you really think it would be bad to face the subs and port towards the cabin? and if its possible to have the port just go up to the top of the box, which way would be best to face the subs, front or back?

this is what i was thinking, what do u mean by seal port and seal sub? i dont think i would need to have the port go all the way up through the rear deck but just face it on top of the box. the guy building my box is going to create it tomorrow, so i need to finalize it asap. firing the port towards the cabin would be a bad idea? also, ssa recommends tuning it to 32hz, any negative effect trying to tune to 28hz? i dont have any experience building boxes so sorry if i ask basic questions.

this is what the shop thats doing the install wants to do, but it just didnt seem right firing them towards the cabin and have the port the same way since my back seat would be in the way. didnt know if the port needs alot of space since there would only be like a couple of inches from it and the blockage. the center section would be ok since only the foam rear seat blocks the subs but the sides have metal from the car, although there are holes through it. also, what should the box specs be? im thinking 3cf tuned to 32hz.

well there is only a metal cross brace between the rear seat and trunk plus the sides have holes, basically the whole center section is only separated by the foam rear seat. right now, my installer is going to face them towards the cabin and have the port either in the center or side of the box, but still facing the same way the subs are, which he thinks is always best when it comes to ports. i wanted to fire them towards the rear but that would create alot of rattle and im doing a custom install and walling off the rear of the box, which would hurt sound even more this way. the only other option is that im removing my rear deck speakers, so it can be possible to have the ports facing the holes on the rear deck but they would probably have to be round ports and have the subs either face the rear or face the cabin. what do you think is best for me?

currently i have 2 12" boston acoustic g5 subs with 2 12" gtr passive radiators running off a mtx 1501D in the spare tire well firing up. im not satisfied with the spl and want something louder. im thinking about taking them out of the spare tire well and removing my rear strut bar and then make a box where the subs can fire towards the rear of the car or fire them towards the cabin since there is only a metal cross brass between the trunk and cabin (2003 mitsu evo 8). since i have the gtr radiators, im also considering firing my subs to the rear of the car and have the gtr radiators fire towards the cabin all in a sealed enclosure (shown in an example on boston's website) my options are either keep the boston 12s and get rid of or keep the radiators or go with ssa icon or fi car audio bl 10s ported. i will list 2 options in the poll for each as one will be for firing towards the cabin and the other will be firing towards the rear. btw, im also thinking about upgrading my amp if i get 2 10s, maybe a 2-3000 watt amp. currently, my bostons are overpowered since they only handle 450watts rms (if i listen to them at full volume the fuse eventually blows on the sub), i can turn it down if its recommended to keep the subs. im looking to create a really custom and unique trunk, install ideas would also be appreciated! here is what my set up looks like right now... http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0442.html http://public.fotki.com/twstdevo/evo/dscn0444.html ***if you choose "other" in the poll PLEASE post what you would recommend***

i got about 35in wide and 15in height. dont want to take my whole trunk up, pics of trunk can be seen in the link. well i needed to get something quick, so i picked up 2 SSA icon 10s that i will run in either 2.5 or 3 cf ported enclosure tuned to 32hz. i only listen to rap/hip hop so i was told if i go with a little bigger than recommended box (1.5cf each) it will sound better. what do you guys think with this decision and set up? also should i have them to the rear or towards the cabin?
