kicker sx two channel amps
chubgo posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
anyone have experience with these? I was thinking about getting a 400.2 or 500.2 to power to power my front stage(once i can decide on a set) because they look like they have a lot of features for the money. Anyone know anything about these amps? -
kicker sx two channel amps

Okay, it looks like they are very adjustable, but i doubt i need all that since i'm just getting passive components for now and all i want is adequate , clean sound to keep up w/a 15' icon and sundown sae1000d -
I'm going to with either 2.5 or 2.75 cubic feet sealed. I don't have the saw necessary to build a box, but if I gave home depot the dimensions they'd cut wood for me right? Also, is it cool to mount the amp on the box or should I build an amp rack? I kinda like the idea of having an amp, just dont know how difficult it'd be to make one. Also, will 2 rolls of RAAmmat BXT and a few yards of ensolite be enough deadening, at least for my goals (loud and clean daily driving)? thanks.

Looking for a quality sub right now for my first system and I'm thinking about a single 12 or 15. Listen to rap mostly when I'm driving but i like to mix it up with classic rock and pop/punk about 25% of the time. I've been told 12s in general are more musical, but will a 15 provide adequate response and accuracy, provided the right enclosure? I'm thinking about an Fi Q or SSA Icon or something similar b/c they've both had great reviews on here...total budget for the sytem(including wires, enclure, electrical upgrades if needed) will be in the $1200-1500 range...not looking to spend more than 50% on the substage(amp and sub). Any big differnces in the size of the driver? Any advice/comments? Thanks.
-
well i've changed my mind again, lol. That icon/sundown deal looks too good to pass up, especially since it'll be cheaper than a q and a decent amp for it. Enclosure suggestions?
-
whats wrong w/the zx 1000.1, i thought it'd be better since it'd be 1000 watts @ 2 vs a 1 ohm load w/the 1200.1. Will the 1200 be to much?... i don't want to have to repair it in a few months if 1200 watts is too much, but i guess i could keep the gain down since a lil headroom is good.

I can't decide on what size driver to get. It will be going into a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. The dimensions of the cargo area are approx. 30" x 15" x 42" which is ~10.4 cubic feet, however i'd like to have some space left. I'm thinking about about powering the sub with either a kicker zx 1000 or kx 1200.1(open to other comparable amp suggestions). Any particular advantages to each driver? Would the 15 be louder? I know its all install dependent. I listen to rap/hip hop and classic rock mostly(more hip hop though). Not really going for an SQ system, just want the substage to be tight, responsive, and get loud when i want to? Any input is appreciated.
-
Thanks for the input...i'll probably get the 15 since i have the space for it. The 1200.1 wasn't too much for the q? Did you get any options on it?
-
Pretty sure i'm going to go w/a 12" Fi Q ...any amp recommendations in the $300 price range?? Right I'm thinking about... -kicker zx 1000.0--$279 on ebay -kicker kx 1200.1-$300 on the for sale section here -phoenix gold rsd 1200.1 -hifonics brutus bxi1206d -JBL GTO1201.1 II cadence txa 1000d cadence zrs 6000d suggestions? thanks.

anyone have experience with the mach 5 maw series or the AA arsenals

Thinking about a single 15" sub and Fi's are on my list of options...Any major differences in sound quality between the Q and the BL? I like bass on the tighter side that will play loud w/out getting muddy. What are the benefits of a getting a BL w/options? It will be for a daily driver. Usually listen to rap, but i throw some rock in there about 25% of the time, and want a sub sounds good playing both types of music. Thoughts/comments?
-
What do you mean by, "something left to be desired ", on the re comps?. Midbass response, clarity?
-
both those comps only do 50-60 watts rms. I figured i'd need at least 75 rms to keep up w/a 900 watt sub, guess i was wrong. Solid midbass on both of those pioneer comps?
-
Well my budget for the entire system is like $1500....allocating anywhere from 40-50% on a substage and that includes a good box(which i will have to buy b/c i dont have the space or tools to build one myself). However, if electrical upgrades are going to be an arm & leg, i'll just look into something not as powerful. For argument sake, lets say $600 substage, $400 front stage, and the remainder for all wires/connects, electrical upgrades, and sound deadener...does that sound reasonable?
-
Yeah, i saw that packaged deal earlier. Any recommendations on a front stage (just looking for something that will keep up w/a 900 wrms anp(? With that kind of power from the substage is $1500 still a reasonable budget, considering i'll probably need to dynamat at least the rear hatch and front doors...and will the big 3 be necessary?(i'm so new to all of this)
-
Well for fill(or lack of) i figured i'd just keep the factor speakers running of the headunit. I have them faded right now anyway. I started another thread w/my current thoughts on a sub(Fi Q, SSA Icon or something similar)...just want to the have front components that will keep up (clean output when i play loud).

(I'm going to apologize in advance for run-on sentences and grammatical errors). First off, only been on ssa for a few days now but am overwhelmed at the wealth of information here. This will be my first system and will be going into a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Only installed upgrade has been a pioneer deh p690 headunit, this was done by a local car audio store. I listen mostly to rap/hip-hop and classic rock, bud i'd say 75% rap on a daily basis. I purchased a set of 6.5' focal polyglass v2 components and polk db651s for rear fill ($400 for the focals, $50 for the polk at tweeter, still bnib in my bedroom). Anyway, in the process of amp shopping i almost put a $250 deposit on a tru b475 4 channel amp($1000), and in the process of researching the amp stumbled upon the zed amps and ssa....sorry, i digress......... Long story short, I'm looking for front components that are a better performance per dollar value than the focals as I'm trying to have everything installed(front comps/amp, sub(s) amp, sound dampening/deadner and all cables and wires) in about a month or so on a 1200-1600 dollar budget(pending i return the speakers i already bought). By the way i really liked the midbass response of the polys(from what i heard on tweeters soundboard). In no way would i say i have an SQ's/audiophile's ear....i just want a sub that will get loud and sound good doing it, and a fronstage that can keep up(wont get drowned out by the substage, won't sound distorted at higher volumes). From what i've read all the subs talked about here( fi q, ssa icon, soundsplinter rl p, etc.) all seem to be affordable options and a better value than the boston g5 12 that looks tempting($400 retail for 450 watts rms). Lol, perhaps i should be starting different threads...any advice and input is appreciated. I know everything is install-dependent, regardless of the drivers and amps i choose. thanks.

thinking about going active
chubgo posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I'm currently in the process of designing/setting up my first system. I currently have a pioneer deh-p690ub head unit but haven't been able to figure out all of its features yet. Can i have an active front stage with this headunit? I have a set of focal 6.5 V2 polyglass components, not installed, but i'm thinking about returning them to tweeter because after browsing through the threads here I'm sure i can get a better front stage for the money. Any input would be helpful, thanks. -

hmmm, well i'll consider that option....., but passive components would be simpler right? -
Budget is $1500...haven't made any measurements yet....factory speakers are 6" coax in the rear, 6.5 components in the door w/tweets in the dash, would like to keep factory locations, would need to buy a sub box...dont have the tools for it, but i think i could manage the amp, speaker and sub installation. Just looking for a system that will be loud when i wanna bump, not looking for competition level sq or anything, just dont want the front stage to be drowned out by the sub(s) when i crank it. I mostly listen to rap when i drive. I'm not expecting concert-like imaging, for now, anyways.

ehh, i dont think i'd get much of my money back for it...it was 380 after installation....now going for 200 new online of wooferetc -
I live in the baltimore area if anyone on here knows a place that does good installs and can make a good sub enclosure (although, i'd like to try my hand at most of this w/the exception of the sub box, as i dont have the tools or work space for it).

Since I can't do that w/my current HU, i'll just go 2 way passive for now...any suggestions for better performance per dollar than my $400 focals? I''ll start a new thread for that.
