  1. Just got my SSD today and wanted to give Nick, Scott, and everyone a big thanks for the help and let them know everything is sounding very good! The SSD is not nearly as bottom-heavy as my SW8200 (which sounded unnatural), but is overall, a much more balanced driver. The upper frequencies are definitely present, and blend nicely with the front stage - now I finally have a little reinforcement of the kick drums that was completely missing in most rock material w/the SW8200. Bass lines seem to be very clean and accurate, and kick drums and short bass notes are very tight - overall, a very warm, full sound. Pretty damn good for having my EQ settings at flat. Output is very loud - nothing mind-blowing w/my setup, but more than enough to rattle my car like mad, and make me wish I had a few hundred dollars worth of sound deadening installed. Overall, the SSD is a great-sounding sub. Thumbs up to the guys at Fi!
  2. Scott just responded back to the email I sent him last week, asking him for the same recommendations. He also suggested the SSD, but specifically stated that I shouldn't order any options. I've already ordered the SSD w/copper coil per Nick's suggestion and figured the improved SQ and lower power handling would be appropriate for my setup. Any reasons why Scott thinks the copper coil wouldn't be beneficial for my application and desired results? I'm probably stuck w/my current order, but just wondering what to expect. Thanks again for the help!
  3. I've heard nothing but good things about Fi, so I went ahead and ordered the 12" SSD dual 2 ohm with the copper coil tonight. Plus I really like the idea of purchasing manufacturer-direct, since the shops around here are far and few between with huge mark-ups and very poor selection. Thanks, I think that should be okay. I'm gonna aim for an 80Hz low-pass at 24dB/oct, with a little EQ added around 65 or 70Hz. I just want it to blend nicely with the fronts, while catching some of the upper kick drum. I'm not too handy with fabricating pods or enclosures, but I definitely need to dampen and seal-up the doors. They sound pretty good right now w/50RMS each (Alpine MRP-T220) with gains set half-way up, but I'm sure a nicer 75-watt amp would be better matched. At the moment, I have the crossover's tweeter level attenuated, and the HU's high-pass set at 80Hz at 12dB/oct. Got any tricks for better mid-bass that doesn't require a lot of skill? =)
  4. Thanks for the quick response NDMstang65! Unfortunately, I don't have any dedicated mid-bass, just a pair of Focal 6.5 polyglass coax's in the front. Can I expect at least some output up to 80Hz perhaps? And just out of curiosity, around what frequency does the "peaking" occur with the flatwound coil? Thanks again!
  5. Greetings all, I'm in need of a single new 12" sub for use with my current amplifier and sealed box (daily driver), and was wondering if any of the Fi products would work nicely. Amp: Phoenix Gold ZX500 (rated at 600RMS bridged, 4-ohm load) PG websites states the amp may be underrated by 5 to 15% - so maybe closer to 700RMS? Box: Audioformz monoGlass12 sealed fiberglass at .95 ft^3 Other: Factory electrical system, with the addition of a useless 1-farad stiffening cap. Enclosure located in trunk of a small sedan, facing rear corner. Partially open rear deck. Interested in either the Fi Q or Fi SSD 12" in dual 2-ohm configuration, but not really sure if any of the options (ie, copper coils) would be beneficial. I'm looking for a fairly flat frequency response up to 100Hz, while getting the most output from my amp without underpowering the sub by too much. Previous subs used w/this setup were a Diamond Audio M612D2, which sounded excellent and lasted me around 3 years until the former came unglued - and more recently, an Eclipse/TC SW8200 which was horrible from the start. With gains, sub-level out, and EQ set unusually low, it still had this massive peak at 45Hz that caused mechanical noise, while material from 60 - 100Hz was almost non-existent. In any case, it lasted 7 months until the aluminum cone tore in half. So I guess I'm also looking for some reliability in a new sub. Any suggestions for a Fi sub (with or without options) or other sub that would match up nicely with my current setup would greatly be appreciated!
