Slamology 2013 Homeowners Association Compaint
gprestonmoto replied to Nathan@XSPower's topic in General Audio
Well this thread has been a fantastic waste of space. The video is in poor taste from a manufacturer, granted I see their point. It is a little ridiculous to live near a race track and complain about noise, HOWEVER that is their right. I would think that the locals would have gotten a heads-up at some point before the show though. We are all biased and have a "screw those guys" attitude, however it seems that the mature members of the forum have forgone voicing that opinion and the others.. well whatever. Anyway, this should have been brought up to the HOA or the local governing council just as a show of good faith so that it won't affect the next Slamology. Threads like this are the reason that these events are becoming few and far between. -

really? Was just a tiny build anyway.Plans changed. The new body style Silverado is in stock now so ill likely be trading this in real soon. Ill probably just use this gear somewhere else. Yes really lol. I like the undercover builds, and you never disappoint in your work Steve.

Frick! I've been eagerly awaiting this build LOL

HOW DID I MISS THIS?! Awesome build man, the breast cancer theme is tits, pun intended! Really great to see someone supporting a good cause with amazing work! -
Zapco's entry level amp was not too bad. It's a nice amplifier but the solder inside was crap. Ended up resoldering a lot. You can see one of the resistors missing in the gut pic. It completely broke off, and 3 more have one leg contact. Guess I know why it was just sitting in protect when it got any power. Anyway, fixed em all and she works fine now. All back together Trying to pretend she's a genesis, lol

New Hopefully last system plan/ideas

Wow, so your profile says you were born in 1978, I'm guessing that's just a typo for 1998? Grow up. No self-respecting adult would act like this. -
Just an update. I cracked the Zapco and it's a mess. It was on a boat and it looks like it took a lot of vibration. Rattled itself apart. Gonna need about 10 new resistors and a lot of solder time. Oh well. It'll be a nice little amp when I can identify these and replace them.

Sure man. Currently kinda screwed on money and I need some new equipment. Someone managed to get into my SUV and take my toolbox including my soldering station, my MM2000 DMM, and wire strippers, etc. My tool box was hidden under some clothes in the back and I'm assuming someone saw me bringing in a bunch of amps to my house the other day, and figured there was more in the car. Sucks, so... I guess everything is on hold until I can get ahold of some random tools.

New Hopefully last system plan/ideas
gprestonmoto replied to tommydh's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
BC I'm planning on using 4 So you have a budget of $800 total for amps for your subs, and want the most power you can get? Do you have an additional budget to upgrade your electrical? Doesn't make much sense to drop $800 for a bunch of amps if your electrical isn't up to par, and I highly doubt replacing the battery with an AGM is going to be enough. I'm not trying to be rude but if you would read I will upgrade electrical That is not included in budget as I was always planning on it and just dont see the use in rerplacing a functional battery that has not faultered a bit with what i am running currently. I am already running 3 amps on it i plan on changing them all out to a better line possably same manufacturer. If you would have read you would notice that my current budgetis non existent so I am simply trying to get a broader range of ideas. In the past I've done big high quality comp builds going back to 96 wit RF Punch Power DVC 4-12's off 2 Punch Power 50M's on stock electrical wihout issues so Ill address alt if needed I plan on Battery upgrades that is not included in the amp budget. I do not have a hard limit im simply trying to see what I can getr away with. I read that you mentioned upgrading the battery, nothing more. I apologize for not catching the inference for further electrical upgrades. Other than Big 3 and Battery what do you suggest. I'm just curious what your recomendations are. Do you have a degree or masters liscense in Eletrical fields. I do I have done some calculations already so please enlighten me but I doubt your expertise isnt close to my background in this field. But please I want to hear your sugg estionUnfortunately I do not have a degree in EE, so please feel free to take anything I say with a grain of salt. I've heard fast food is bad for health, but I'm not a doctor either! Anyhow let me speculate, and correct me when I'm wrong. You have four sundown X's rated for 1250watts each, so optimally you'd like 5000watts total for your subs since that's what they're rated for? With zero change in impedance, and 100% efficiency from the amp(s) that would require 5000w/14.4v=347amperes Say I'm being over optimistic, and you'd be happy with 2500watts, 2500w/14.4v=174amperes From what I could gather(which may be incorrect), the 07 mini coopers have an alternator rated for 105amperes, and it's not common for manufacturer's to use larger than necessary alternators as it's not cost effective and doesn't help with the HP and mpg. So I would presume that upwards of 80-90% of what the alternator is rated for is what the stock electrical demands, but let's say it only uses half, so 105a/2=50amperes. So you have 50amperes from the alternator, and say you have a big AGM battery like the xs power 5100 with an AH rating of 60, so for one hour it can discharge 60amperes at 12v? Let's pretend it could do that at 14v though. So for one hour you have ~110amps. 110amps is a lot less than 170amps or 350amps, so much so that voltage would quickly drop below 12v, you would risk ruining all electronics, and ultimately end up with a dead battery. Back to reality, the alt doesn't have a 50% excess in amperage, your amps aren't anywhere near 100% efficient, impedance on the amps aren't constant, and I didn't account for any amps you may be using for the front stage. So my suggestion would be getting a high output alternator if you plan on running anywhere near my speculated figures of power. I originally asked why you wanted to use two amplifiers, when one amplifier alone could easily surpass your vehicle's electrical. If your original post was clearer than perhaps I wouldn't have "ragged" on you about trying to use so much power with little change to the electrical system. I know if I were in your shoes I would most likely opt for a smaller amplifier that doesn't require all these costly upgrades as the amount spent and the gain in output wouldn't be worth it to me, and especially considering all the cone area you have available. Though as you have pointed out I don't have any degree to support anything I've said, so feel free to disagree. and thats why volvos are the best ladies and gentleman! I don't see how that's relevent or correct in ANY way. Post count +1 apparently. -
Why not 3 way components? Coaxials aren't really necessary. Hertz HSK 3 ways would go nicely in there.

If I find one, you can have it for a couple bones or a trade bro. I'd rather find a 710BT or an 880PRS so it's all up for grabs. Lol. My only actual plans are a pair of IA Death Penalties in the trunk of my Cadillac ported via Aero through the rear deck running off the 2300HCT and front stage on a 4215HCT when I find one. Besides those parts, anything I have I'm willing to separate with. They're all just projects that will come and go.
-
Rock on. Thanks man. Edit: You can usually tell the HCT models because they have the large dial meters on top instead of the digital one. Edit x2: Also let me know if you ever see a faceplate for a DEH-770MP floating around. The pic above is what it looks like.

That'd be rad. Thanks. Haven't found even one of those damn amps for sale lol.

I understand low budget lol. I think as soon as I fix the Granite, I'll try and trade it for something else and work my way up. It's a really nice piece I must admit. Very interesting design. I'll take some gut pics later and post them. The board itself is in three pieces with the output transistors mounted under the board against the heatsink cover. Let me know if you have anything you want to trade or dump bro.

Thanks for commenting bro, it really is just patience. I have pretty bad anxiety amongst other issues and I find that working on things like this really keep me sane. I just take my time and enjoy the experience and end result. Sometimes I waste time on lost causes but it doesn't bother me, just more experience. At the moment I'm searching for an Audiobahn A4125HCT. I know Audiobahn isn't anything amazing but I really love my A2300HCT and I'd like a matching 4 channel to customize. Good thing they BARELY fit in my oven for powdercoat lol. The funny part is that I love the projects. Not interested in the business of it at all yet. I will at some point, but for now it's a fun little hobby. I'll end up trading stuff off like I always do. Get a new project, and trade again.

That's a nice SQ sub. Apparently you have a fairly open budget lol. -
I need some design help for my box
gprestonmoto replied to nicholasrhall's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
How are you mounting the subs? it looks like you would have to mount them one behind eachother like that, or offset which would still be tight. 2 15's won't fit between 27 1/4" -
I have a Mazda 3 with BOSE as well and if it's the same there's an amp under the passenger seat. The stock subwoofer plastic housing has a cap on it. You might want to grab feed from before the amp.
