Well I am gonna be going for my first recone attempt. It will be a BTL. I am feeling pretty confident but have a couple of questions. First thing How do I properly clean all the excess stuff from the original BTL. Like the surround on the basket and where the spider is glued down at. I was told just a heat gun to get it loosen up so I can just pull it all off? Second I hear alot of people talk about the "Triple joint" and how well that is glued. What is the triple joint? Also I am confused on how to properly "shim" it. Is it that the shim alligns it properly so that it doesnt rub? If so that means the paper shim is only making like a hairline gap? And wheres the best place to get the glue? Thanks! Thats all I can think of for now
-
Ok. Well I went to lowes all I could find was Loctite 5 min epoxy. Came with 2 bottles Resin and hardener. It says to mix the two then apply to the surface. Its loctite professional heavy duty epoxy is that the right stuff?
-
Ok Thanks for clearing that up. Didnt know it would be fumey just from grinding it. And this recone came with a white shim Ill see if it fits nice and snug

First off you must have a mask because the CA glue is VERY VERY toxic. DO NOT breathe it in. Get a flapper sanding disc around 40-65 grit and grind the excess material off. I highly suggest taking a utility knife and cleaning as much of the surround off of the basket as possible. I also suggest taking a hammer/screwdriver/chisel and hammering as much of the CA glue off of the spider landing as possible before you grind it. CA will make your eyes water very badly and will also hurt your lungs if you inhale it. Triple joint is already taken care of when you get a kit from us, It is the joint where the neck of the cone meets the coil, and spiders. Get some manilla office folders and cut them in half in the fold, then trim about 2" or so off of each half. Make sure that the folders do not overlap in the gap. Put as many layers of folders that you need in order for the recone to drop in snugly and not rock left to right. This can vary from 2 shims to 4, depending on how thick it is. Best glue for you to use would be Loctite brand 15 minute epoxy. You can get it from Lowes or Home depot. It comes in a Red/Blue squeeze tube and will allow you plenty of time to work with it before it sets up. Hope this helps. -Nick OK I got the recone today. Your talking about the CA glue being toxic. Is that the Loctite 15 min epoxy? Or are you saying for when I take the sub apart to watch out for the CA glue (but i dont understand unless its hot) Also the shim that comes with the recone is that all I need to use? Thanks!

Ive sent a couple of E-mails to Nick but have not gotten any updates yet. I ordered a recone on June 17th for a 15" BTL triple stack magnets D1 with white dustcap lettering My name is Matt and my email is [email protected] and my tracking is 1ZX7497Y0343439336 I am getting rather frustrated considering the BTL is sold and I am just waiting on the recone so I can recone it and get it shipped to the buyer. I understand Fi is a busy company hand building there subs. I just want a little update

LOL Let me edit that! I meant June 17th!

OK Well I sent ya an email with a couple other questions! My email is Mazzasec "at" gmail Let me know if you got it!

Right now I have 2 15" Fully loaded Fi BTL's old triple stack magnets. One needs a recone. They are daily versions as well. How do I know if I need to get the flat wind coil or the xmax coil? Assuming I need to get the same as my other one I dont know what it is cause I got it used. Would fully loaded mean mine have the xmax coil? Thanks!
-
So the Xmax coil is round?
-
You trying to by new? I Kicker ZX2500 would do nicely with a fully loaded BTL
-
Not sure if Fi got the email, but if you could please post a price or PM me a price for a 15" BTL D1 recone! I got the old model with the triple stack magnets.

Well my previous setup consisted of 2 15" icons powered off a Soundstream pca2000d at 2ohm doing 1500 watts so each sub was getting around 750 watts each. My door speakers were boston acousitc sl60's in the front and infinity kappas in the read powered by a JLe6450 getting 75x4 at 4ohm. Heres the new! 2 15" icons powered by a kicker zx2500! so each sub is getting about 1250 each. A kicker zx650.4 I am gonna replace the sl60's and go with the PG rsd's take. Gonna take out the infinity kappas and just throw the sl60's in the back for the hell of it. I also will be doing big 3 having a kinetik hc1400 under the hood and a hc2400 in the rear. All kicker wiring as well! Heres the pics of what i got so far. I am still waiting on the kicker amps kicker wiring kit and finding a set of PG rsd's group shot of the equipment i have so far just installed my 2 batteries today hc2400 in the rear hc1400 under the hood (any reccomendation on what is safe to put in the battery compartent to fill up the extra space?)

You dont need 14.4 full tilt. As long as your above 12v your safe! -
2 D2's = final load of 2ohm (rare to find an amps max output @2ohm. 2 D1's = final load of 1ohm (1ohm stable amps are EVERYWHERE) Edit: Is that you in your avatar? Looks like your chitting your pants.

Maybe if you read a post youd realize my BUDDY made the box not me. Easy there turbo, didn't mean it as disrespectful towards you. LOL Its all good I thought you were coming off smart to me lol

From expierence the BL's WILL take a 1500d full tilt. I use to run 2 15" BL's of 2 Sundown 1500ds! I could wang them ALL day long. They would get hot but I never really smelled any coils. My voltage was down to like 11.7 to.

What kinda car you got? I ran my 3000d @ .5 with electrical going down to the 11.6 mark. Went into thermal protect only 2 times that I can think of. One time cause I was demoing it real hard at a competition.
