I'd suggest I read, and keep up with threads better. I now see you are going with the 117 and Imprint unit, that should be just fine. Idk why I thought you were going with some cheap Sony unit. Sorry about that. LOL. i was like " jeeze theres no satisfying you people!" -

You need at least a 4-channel so you can have Left/Right fading. ah dang-it. overlooked that detail! damn this is frustrating lol so then my original option with the pioneer and 100.4D would be better, since the HU has the 8 band parametric eq on it I would personally look for more EQ options, your going to need to tame those horns. Impious recommended a 7 band parametric EQ to tame the horns, which is why I thought it would work. Especially in conjunction with the advanced crossovers on the 100.4D Do what you feel is needed. or you could give me a thought out reason as to why what im doing is wrong like others have in this thread instead of just saying "you need more eq" with no explanation as to why. your post does not help me at all. It would obviously help control the output of the mids/highs. And also would help in getting the crossover settings set better and have easier control. noted. so what setup would you suggest? -

what about this consists of: pair of Image Dynamics CD1-PRO (2) either 10" or 8" Midbasses headunit: Alpine CDA-117 w/ Imprint device (This combo has all the crossovers and processing needed, I believe) Amp: Sundown SAX 125.2 (horns on one channel, mids on the other) -

Well the headunit has an 8 band parametric eq, and the amp has all the advanced crossovers. Is that not ok? your saying try to get a head unit with both eq and crossover and not an amp with one and the headunit with the other? -

You bring out the best in me. I am flat out sick of you posting either the , interesting, or a bunch of garbage. Funny thing is I said about the same thing Impious did, you just don't like hearing any criticism from me. The cure is to stop posting stuff when you don't know anything about it. ok. So I think I finally have it figured all out. consists of: pair of Image Dynamics CD1-PRO (2) either 10" or 8" Midbasses headunit: MVH-P7300 (I need ipod, I don't use CD's) processing will not be as important through the headunit as I thought because of the amp's exceptional processing/crossovers. Amp: Sundown SAX 100.4D http://www.sundownaudio.com/index.php/products/item/sax-1004d.html anything else? I really think this will do it for my needs. -

Image Dynamics and USD Audio are the two main sources of car audio specific horns. Not sure of your budget, if you can buy new you could go that route. But they are much more affordable on the used market. In Image Dynamics lineup you should look for the CD1-Pro, CD2-Comp or if the budget allows the newer Ultra horns. On the used market the CD2's can be found for around $250-$300. USD Audio I'm not as familiar with, and really their horns a little more scarce. As for processing, if you don't want an external trunk mounted processor you can look for a headunit that has a built in 3-way crossover (highpass for the horns, bandpass for the mids and lowpass for the sub). You want to make sure the highpass can be set as low as ~1khz, steeper the slope the better. Ideally 24db/oct. A decent 13-band graphic or 7-band parametric should be sufficient for tuning the horns to an acceptable level for your listening purposes. this is exactly the post I was looking for! thanks! hopefully this thread will shed some light on people that have the same issue as me finding a headunit with those processing capabilities seems to be non-existant. I may have to goe with a trunk mounted one afterall. but not something as extensive as a 3sixty.3 or others like it -

Do you ever actually post any information? Or just the popcorn guy and arbitrary statements. ANYTHING loud will be a lot of work. First step on the horns is to see if you have the space. No harder than building kickpods, just a different installation required. As for the 10's, you could also use 8's or something else highly efficient but that will depend on your mounting space. Obviously it will be easier to mount a single pair of drivers than three in one door anyways. The only extra work will be some eq work to tame the horns, but that is really simple as compared to trying to make a big pile of tweeters and mids sound good. Just have to cut out the anomalies which is really not all that hard. Not sure how you think its a butt load of money either. Should actually be less than his original idea. But I guess we shouldn't be surprised when you are still stuck running a late 80's fad of Isobaric drivers, but have no idea why other than you know the guy who designed them. so now as far as an EQ goes, would I rather have something like a trunk mounted version with lots of processing bands? or just something simple like the in-dash version four.1 from audiocontrol? How much processing would be needed to tame the horns? I dont think I'll have an issue with the install as the doors are very deep and very wide. same goes for under my dash. there is alot of room on both the passenger side and drivers side. P.S. I would still like some brand recommendations for the HLCD thanks! -

I really am thinking im going to take Impious' advice. I was thinking about using those new 10" Sundown Audio mids that are on pre-order now. keep the same Sundown theme going.. -

ehhh, IDK about AQ amps. I have no experience with them and I really wanted one bigger amp vs two smaller ones. Maybe I'm asking for something that doesn't exist You could run a single AQ3500 at .5 ohm. You really don't know what you are talking about, do you? I once had some one in my van for a small SQ demo, they told me my REAR speakers were to loud...... I have none. It's all about how the front's are mounted/processed. Jacobs is gonna hook me up with a second 2000D! so I think I'm good there. then I was planning on running his SAX125.2 on the HLCD's an a set of efficient 10's in the door. Just ogtta figure out the processing needed to do something like that. -

When Impious gets back on I want to hear what he has to say about the HLCD and 10". My short amount of research that I've done on setups like that so far, seems promising. -

Im seriously considering this. and I could get a smaller amp due to less speakers, sounds like a winner to me! now I just need brand suggestions and I should have the sounds stage down so i can figure out my processing.. -

Yea, but thats only ~500 wrms over what Im giving one. Im trying to atleast give them their RMS. Get two small(er) amps and run them at 1 ohm? The subs are Dual 2ohm. I cant wire two of them to 1 ohm, its either .5, 2 or 8 (lol) -

There is this huge misconception that the only way to achieve "loud" is to completely ignore basic acoustic principles. To the contrary, following sound acoustic principles is the most effective means of achieving your goals. To put it into perspective.....the winningest (and most infamous) vehicle in SQ competition history consisted of a speaker system that would put almost all of these SPL vehicles to shame in terms of output capabilities (for the front stage, obviously the sub stage would be louder in the SPL vehicles). HLCD under the dash and a high efficiency 10" mid per door (or kickpanel). Done. You would have to worry more about hearing damage from the front stage than the substage, as the front stage would literally be capable of deafening you if you allowed it to play at it's full potential. You need to button down your plans for your speakers before you select a headunit for processing. If you want to do the eight 8's and four tweeters thing you can, it's your system. I just think it's the wrong path. As for a Stetsom dealer.....check the SSA Store, they carry Stetsom products. whats this HLCD and High efficiency 10" you speak of? I just caught my attention. Im leaps and bounds more familiar with the substage side of things vs the front stage (as you can tell). I appreciate everything!! @ Thor02- Ive been seeing that too. its just hard to find an amp that will do 3-4 k at 2 ohms ya know? and the 2000D's are discontinued now and the single 15" Z v2 I have currently is Dual 2 ohm. So im kinda stuck ATM looking for my substage amp -

x2 ... I think that set-up, as long as done properly will be MORE then loud enough. So just the 4 total mids in the doors (since its two door) plus the tweeters and no rear fill? -

2008 Scion TC hatchback 2 door Sub stage: 2 sundown Z V.2 15"s walled off behind the back seats and either 2 SAZ-2000D's or 1 Stetsom V 4K5 E 2 OHM. Front stage: is still up in the air no apparently because my old idea doesnt seem like a good one lol. Just want a loud over all daily driver that I can enjoy, not really for competing. per se' P.S. who is an authorized Stetsom dealer on here? where can i get the best prices?
