I don't see any problem with that. But (desktop) computers draw quite a bit of juice, you'd better make sure that 500 watts is enough. If its a laptop you're talking about, then 500w should be enough.

No, your car needs a certain amount of fuel to run. Regulating it would cause it to no longer function (properly). (Aftermarket) Fuel pressure regulators are more for performance applications where the stock regulator isnt cutting it. Hope that makes sense, Im not thinking straight.
-
Haha, this might sound stupid, but what if you put foil over the amp. It might reflect some heat. :]

That is very odd. Also, Jacob, in my car, when the ign. switch is in the Start position, the switched power to the deck appears to be killed, ie. the deck turns off while in Start. This could be a problem if you're listening to your radio with the car off, then need to start it up. Not sure exactly how that works.

wa-chuk-wa-chuk-chuk-chukchukchukchukchuk lol thats pretty freakin sweet.

Got the Viper 5900 installed w/o remote start but with glass break and piezo siren for about $610 from the best shop on the island. Supposed 1 mile range, but cement cuts that down considerably. Still pretty impressive though. That piezo siren is damn loud. >_<

Firefox and Opera
buickid replied to Aaron Clinton's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
I used both Opera and FF when they were still in their infancy, and they were both great browsers. I tried FF second, and it just stuck. If you're still using Internet Exploder, you suck. Just kiddin. But you're missing out! -
haha but if you do, pics.

Yes, it sacrifices some SQ, but adds power handling. What kind of music do you listen to?

I've also had a lot of bad experiences with UPS. One of the worst was when I ordered a 2-pack of RAM, and the box came open, with the internal clam pack open, and the one remaining stick of ram flying about in the box. I don't think RAM sticks just jump out of their clam packs, and rip the tape off the box. >.> Most of my other UPS packages come with various corners dented in, or holes in the side. I try to go FedEx or even USPS if I must.

Make the current one a SAE-c1000D or something. The compact brother of the SAE-1000D or something. Really, there should be three lines, the SAZ - competition grade, SAE - economy minded, and something in between, perhaps products that are compact and well built, but not competition grade. Thats where the 1000D should fit. But actually, I'm liking my first idea more. Yeah. Thinking out loud ftw.

ye-no. these are minz no way. i'll find a way to use them. lol, I don't see why you want to keep them so much. Selling them will definitely help you finance a setup with SSDs. You might even have extra cash to buy some goodies, like a new HU. Hes offering you five times more then what you paid for, you're essentially making $320 for nothing. :] But yes, I would look into the SSDs. Sounds like you want a street beater.
-
Like I said, the Fi SSDs are great street beaters, and one Sundown SAZ-1500D will power both of them nicely. Since its an ex-police car, it should have a bigger alternator then the regular street trim already, probably about 110 amps or so. This means that if you do a good wiring job, and everything else is peachy, the 1500D should lay down about 1500-1600 watts at 1 ohm. The two SSDs will slam on that power, given the proper box.

Woah, every word doesn't need to be capitalized, it hurts my eyes. And if its custom made, then in theory it should fit. Unless it was custom made to someone elses trunk. The better question is, will it have enough volume, that is, will it have enough airspace inside. For that, look at the recommended volume for one 15" and multiply it by three. I believe the recommended volume is around 3-5 cu. ft. So you should have about 9-15 cu. ft. in your trunk if you want your subs to sound good. Do some measurements and run the numbers. And please, dont capitalize Every Single Word. Thank you.

I'm going to tell it to you straight. Those BTLs aren't going to sound good with what your budget. Even if you buy a beefy enough amp to give them enough power, you'll burn up the amp in short order with your stock electrical system. If you're on a limited budget, I would consider what I said earlier... Sell the BTLs, buy a couple Fi SSDs (~800w RMS each), a Sundown SAZ-1500D (~1500 Watts), and then build a ported box. It should get louder then your BTLs with your current budget, and sound better, given the proper installation. Bottom line: Your situation simply isn't conducive to using the BTLs.
-
I would say sell the woofers and get something like two 15 or 18 Fi SSDs and a SAZ-1500D. That would be more in your budget. It would likely get louder then two BTL 18s on whatever amp and electrical system you could buy with $800 too.

Hmm, I think I know someone who would dig that "You're a b!" bag. Let me know if they're for sale.

Important Kinetik Battery info for those with problems
buickid replied to shizzzon's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Don't regular "wet" lead acid batteries start gassing at 14.4V too? -
That thing is gonna melt. Sell it and buy a BL or Q. I'd put no more then 1200 or so to a SSD.
-
I'm not sure about the numbers, but the Copper Coil option is supposed to increase your SQ a bit with a loss of thermal power handling, where the Flatwind will increase thermal power handling, while decreasing SQ. The SSDs are pretty sensitive drivers and don't need a lot of power to slam.

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X792, any thoughts?
buickid posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Looking at the KDC-X792, looks like its got all the right features. 3x4v preouts, USB/iPod connection, aux connection, 2nd aux option, PAC wire, attenuator, 24 bit DAC, and the oh-so-handy Attenuator aka "Oh s... a cop" button. I like how it looks, and it sounds like I could integrate it well into my future car, with the USB jack replacing the stock iPod connector, and rewiring the stock 3.5mm AUX input to go to the HU. Anyone have any experience with the Excelon HU, especially the 79x series? SonicElectronix has it for $229. Your thoughts on Kenwood in general? The Alpines don't really float my boat with all the buttons bunched up on the side. -
Even a Sundown SAE-1000D should get them loud.
-
I hope this SAZ-2000D doesn't cost significantly more then the SAZ-1500D. The SAZ-1500D goes for a great price, it fits comfortably in my "affordable" range. Too much higher and the numbers start getting scary, regardless of value, if that makes sense. Some people want the options that the SAZ line afford, yet don't currently need that extra 500 watts, or want to pay for it. 1500 watts sits perfectly with a loaded Fi BL as well.

Or just buy a BTL with the BP power option. Probably have a little more leeway for error.
