Went to competition today out in South West Fort Worth.(Whole new world to me.) Got my single 12" SS SPLX back so I decided to strap both Sundowns to it for 0.5 ohm per amp and let her rip. On my Kinetik with almost no charge last night I did a 151.3 in a 60Hz SPL box. 2.5 cubic foot box tuned to 60Hz with 2 4" aero ports 6 inches long with 1 coat of fiberglass resin on the inside, and the master amp at 1/2 gain. Will post up a pic of the setup and score as soon as I get them uploaded.

Pic of the 5 minute amp rack we made. It's pretty sweet, Brian did a nice job for some quick improvisation. Also under it the Kinetik 2000 is mounted in the wheel well with MDF 3/4" securing it in place. It wouldn't move if you pryed on it. It will be carpeted soon or something to clean it up. Brian did an awesome job, can't thank him enough.

Was thinking about switching to a SPL 12" Mach 5 Audio sub or a Fi BTL 12" ... My question is about the SPL 12", can they be modded to Dual 1 ohm's or is Dual 2 the standard? Also, would I be underpowering the Mach 5 with 2 Sundown Audio 1500D's or would it be just right? I've gotta make a decision, because I would like to be able to pull the amps down to .25 ohm or .50 ohm for competitions and the MTX 9500 12" I'm currently using, only comes in Dual 4 ohm so I'm only able to get both amps to see 1 ohm. Also what would be the best pricing shipped and who do I need to talk to directly on here? Also would this sub be safe to play music on, on a daily basis? Any input is greatly appreciated. Geoff

I did a 147.0 in the passenger kick, I wanted to get a dash reading, but I forgot. Brian did a 150.3 in the passenger kick. Once I get off this MTX 9500 Dual 4 and go to a Dual 1 sub, I'll really be throwing up some nice scores for a single 12".
-
Yea, this 9500 told me when it was being overpowered. The coils get stinky, so I backed the gain off until the stink went away... now it's good. That is a nice package deal, and I would consider it if I didnt have the two Sundown 1500D's already. This sub(SPL 12) would be able to play music in a musical box, with no problems.... correct? They aren't like the RE MT's where you cant play music or are they? Please correct me if If I am wrong...

How much do you have to spend as far as budget? That would help us greatly in making a suggestion for you. But like Vladd said, if you on a limited budget, a 15" BTL will require a high amp amplifier and a beefy electrical system to power it correctly.

Wiring is a little dirty but didn't have time.... 147.0 out of a single 12" , my goal is 150+ out of a single 12"..

Brian, who had the clamp meter? I'd like to do that too mine and see what its actually outputting.. You got beat by .7 dB and I got beat by .5dB... They just brought more than we did, we'll regroup and get em at the next one. Good competition though, I like how it was competitive. Call me and we'll talk about going in on a term labn together, we need one.

Thanks denim.... If it can take an Orion 2500D, it should be able to take a 4000 watt burst for 4 seconds on a burp... I wanna push it hard, but not blow it..... I like to be on the edge... and I know some people may flame me for it, but I like to push stuff to its limits....Hell I ran a DCX 1000.1 PPi to a Kicker CVR 12" and it took it like a champ.... I'll be getting me a Mach 5 soon.. Wire it to 1 ohm, each amp will see .5 ohm.....Mayhem... I'm going for 150 on a single 12"
-
Appreciate the replies, Mach 5 looks like a nice choice..... Just most people dont wanna run 3500 watts daily, like me.... So who on here is the person to talk to about pricing and so forth?

Since my 4 15" Soundstream T4 project is being delayed, I decided to strap both amps into the sebring on 1 MTX Audio 12" 9500 subwoofer today. Got both amps strapped up, all connections good and the master amp set at 1/2 gain and 1/2 bass boost in a 2.5 cubic foot box tuned to 38Hz. My first reaction when the bass hit.....was like......HoLy SH**.. It literally took my breath away and I had to turn it down. My trunk was trying to jump off the car literally. 1 ohm on each amp, and this 9500 is taking it like a champ. Amps never even got warm. These SAZ 1500's are some badass amplifiers, and I'm very impressed with them. Thanks for making great amps Jacob, appreciate it.

SQ is the least of my worries...but I do appreciate your input. Only reason I asked of the underpowering is I've seen people run 4000 watts to it, and I'm the kinda person that likes to take the risk and push a sub to its limit. I want a sub that will pound your chest in, rip out your insides and stomp on them....which of these would do it better... BTL or Mach 5 SPL ?
-
Sorry John, meant to clarify, that would be .25 ohm PER amp. I got enough electrical for 10000 watts probably, I'm good in that department. Big 3 in 1/0 gauge , 1/0 gauge power and ground, 2 rolls and a custom Xcessive Amperage alternator on the vehicle of 220 Amps, that has a sheet of 229 Amps with now 2 Kinetik 2000 HC's and a yellop top optima. Just wondering if running .5ohm on this sub would be fine when I strap the amps down to .25 ohm? Not trying to blow up anything, but I like to push the product to its limit. I'm giving this MTX 9500 12" around 3,500 watts RMS set about 1/2 gain and its taking it like a champ so far. But I'm not digging the 4 ohm style that it came in, so I'm wanting to switch.

I currently have a MTX Audio 9500 as a play around sub, but was wondering about switching to a BTL. My question is, I'm going to be using it for pure SPL competitions and was wondering about the options available on it. I understand most of the options, but what would be the ideal combination of options for a pure SPL vehicle on 2 Sundown Audio 1500D's strapped? OR would I be underpowering the BTL, and need to try a BL? Also if Steve pr someone chime in about the best pricing available? Thanks Geoff
-
Thanks for the input guys, and would this sub be safe to play music on in a musical box, around 40Hz daily? I like to demo the SAZ 1500D's every once in a while... Would the BTL or the SPL be a better choice for SPL? Any SPL 12" owners wanna chime in with some knowledge on it?
-
Yea, this is nothing but a pure SPL vehicle now. Going for nothing but loud. But my main concern is, with 2 Sundown 1500D's strapped, would I be underpowering it or would it be fine? I'd be running .25 ohm at competitions. Also what would be the ideal option combination for a pure SPL BTL to perform at its best? I don't know a lot about FI, so I'm asking questions. Third Mag, cooling and the SPL option is all that it needs?

I don't have a working digital camera but Brian does. He should have a bunch of pics as well as Curtis from the texas bass wars website, he also took a ton of pictures. Got any Brian?

Back from the competition just now... and it was a nice day. Started out with the master amp at 1/2 gain 1/2 bass boost.. 1st run yielded a 145.9. Decided to regroup and let the batteries charge and change a few settings, little more than 1/2 on gain, and 1/2 bass boost... 2nd run yielded a 146.5 Pretty nice number for a Dual 4 ohm sub with each amp seeing 1 ohm, so decided for one more run. Turned the gain to about 3/4 with bass boost yet again at 1/2... 3rd run yielded a 147.0 Was nice to see a 47 out of my trunk car. Time to find a Dual or Quad 1 ohm sub and really tear some stuff up.. Brian will have some pictures as well, and Brian did quite nice today with his 15" MOAB on the Sundown 3000D. Thanks for the help Brian with the mounting of the amps, it was appreciated. I love these Sundown amps, they never even got warm.
-
I'll call you in the morning Brian when I'm on my way to your house. Going with the MOAB tomorrow, eh? Interesting choice.. That woofer is sexy....
-
For using some old MDF laying around, thats not a half bad box. Most people probably wouldn't be able to tell now that you have it wrapped. Nice work, I really like how you hid the amp, but I'd still have some kind of fan to circulate the air. Nice work though, very nice install.
-
They are strapped, with each amp @ 1 ohm. Dual 4 ohm sub wired to 2 ohm, with each amplifier seeing 1 ohm. Have a Kinetik 2000 batt and an Optima Yellow near the amplifier. Wish it was a dual 2 ohm sub so I could get the amps to 0.5 ohm.. It is a beast though, scared the old lady at the stop light today with a little music by Trae on his Truth of Life cd...
