Yea, didn't have time when I was up there last to see if they give tours, but they are really close to you. I don't know about tours, but aparently they have one of the mid wests finest outdoor ranges and you can just swing in if you need some gun smithing there and they hook you up.

I leave it loaded but I don't leave one in the chamber, so to be ready slide needs to come back. The hammer is probably harder for her to work than the slide, as I think I have the tightest wound and sharpest metal points on a .45 ever. I did relearn a technique for cocking over hand where you push the pistol instead of pull the slide. Pushing the arm has 4 times the strength of pulling. We will have to see how she works with the XD. I really like the fact that with the XD in the dark at 3am I can grab the gun and just feel if I'm ready to go or not. I think the visual + physical cues to let you know what's going on with the gun is imparitive. Would I trade in my belovid 1911... probably not... but the .40 I held and the .45 I have shot in the XD both made me happy.

I will say to have fun and just ultra cheep ammo would be nice, but I always buy the tip top best I can afford, and I really would rather know I will spend more on ammo, and get one gun that "can" do anything I want, then to have multiple weapons. I'm sure my collection will grow. I will soon be taking the W to the range and then we can find a pistol for her. The .45 is just waaay too big. She also has a huge problem with trying to pull the slide back too, and that isn't good when you need to for personal defense.

Last time I was over there I got 30 plus rounds for the shotgun and 150 rounds of .45, because it needed to be blown through as it was old. Yes sometimes it's old or dirty, but it shoots true enough for the range when you want to have fun... and free is a plus. I've only had 4 rounds jam out of the 1,500 rounds we have shot from those batches on the .45 ammo. The last time we took the 7mm mag out it went smooth as butter too. so really... I don't know if he comes across .308 often, but at the price the guide sells it, I'm completely fine.

The folks at the local gun range had a limited run of a nice set of .50's. "the perfect varment gun" I asked the guy behind the desk about it and what the firm price was etc..? He called it the pink mist machine.

I have never tried. I also pretty much only shoot my 1911 and not much else. I don't think it would go that far down range. Mine is more styled for a bit more close range. I call it the Zombie stopper.
