Cheeper, run better, more options, reliable, servicable..... desktop > all other options. You could have a dual moniter rig that could handle media and even any game out there on not max settings for under 500 bucks. And that is including case. Not including monitor.... you already are on the hans G tip though. :#)

    Welcome to the IHoP

I know this cool guy named Matt2 who is doing it.... One of those things I've always wanted and I assume it will make the laptop faster and more fun to use. Windows will be much much faster on boot up and some apps will really love it. I was more asking if you had some 2tb platter or something already lol. I figured it was for SSD but I didn't want to assume. The one thing I know is that the room mates machine was definately bound by HDD for games and it is now quick on his machine since he moved to SSD. I cannot wait to see how fast it will be striped I also know when I sleep he will be molestering my system. He may be more excited to build this rig than I am to have it be mine. I didn't go balls to the walls on processor or mobo but I think it will still be nice. I also hope the 660s in SLI will out perform a single similar priced 680. Having 3GB of memory/card will probably be the winner for 3 screens over 4GB on one card. And I dont think the 4gb 680 is as cheep as 2 660's. If the i5 is the limiting factor I will just OC the fuck out of it. I could go through 4-5 sets of MOBO and i5s for the cost of an i7..... especially if I would have gone with the 2011 socket. Hyperthreaded 6 core so 12 logic cores would be cool..... but it would not have real PCI express 3 and almost no real games or apps care about that many logic cores..... Aaron would like it on the boinc team but dats about it. And the next gen processors and MoBO will probably catch up with PCI express3. Even with ivy bridge it is a questionable work in process.

Might be worth it but not super special. I really don't like HP though. Lenovo and Asus are about the only brands I "trust" in the laptop world. As far as reasonable priced.

My mom used to make amazing gnocchi. One of the things she just did really well. She also made awesome drop spatzel in milk. Comfort food from when I was a kid.

The only generic italian you can follow without cringing periodically would be batali if it has to be online. As for the lamb that depends on what you hanker for. I like mine cubed and rolled in olive oil, rosemary and salt. Few minutes on the grill and fucking yummy. We had cheater box of gnocchi. LoL For shame on me. I just tossed the leg in the oven with olive oil, garlic and rosemary. It will probably end up as a thin stew/soup.

Does anyone else get headaches from coughing/choking? Like whe something goes down the wrong tube? I was trying to be slick and steal some of the wifes chocolate cake. And it went into the lung. My BP went through the roof and caused a headache so big it crossed my eyes. It always happens when I cough really hard from something in the wrong tube. Just usually not this bad.

Mike are you just replacing the HDD because you want SSD? Or is there another reason?

    Welcome to the IHoP

Hmmmmm. Well, I would just get the cheepest and then replace the HD. I don't think SSD is as "reliable" the same way a platter drives are but I would say that before your SSD burns out, you will have a different lap top.

SSD is faster and uses less power since it has no moving parts. And can't store shit. Only use for SSD in a pc to me is for a boot drive and even then I am not 100% sold. Im sold for gaming and OS. And that is the only reason for me.

Do you want to play ANY games? I would never go without an optical drive..... but if you have a desktop, then maybe you can network those as a pretend optical. What are the HDs on them? I like SSD if you are not going to store a lot of media. More than a GFX card or ram it will speed up your OS and apps. In the past year I haven't used my optical drive once. Every laptop my wife has had or roommate has had has pooped and needed to disk boot at peasantry once. Just my experience though.

SSD is faster and uses less power since it has no moving parts. Missed that. SSD FTW as long as you can afford it. Try not to get smaller than the ~245gig units though. The smaller the SSD the less ideal of a situation for speed. There is some talk that mega high capacity SSD's may be slower..... but it's speculation from what I read... and since I wanted to make it nose bleed fast I went with two 256 in a raid. Almost for the same price as the current speed king in the same size. Zoom Zoom on the cheep. Yeah, the thing is I need maybe a 40-64 GB for my OC, for storage I have 1.5 TB. It's the price, that's all. My room mate may donate a 64 gig SSD just for the OS. That way if one of the others burn I won't cry when re-installing.
