    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

The reason DSLR and to a lesser extent, full frame, is still even around is because the format is both easier to learn on, and easier to use. DSLR could be REALLY small. But that isn't really useful. Part of what helps with shooting a DSLR is the ergonomics. Small P&S have inherent problems with how the react to being held. If you master shooting on a DSLR moving to a slimmer set up could be great. But that is because you have learned the fundamentals and want something that won't be in the way as much.

True. But an arrow won't win against a tank. There is a book called, the best camera is the one you have with you, or something really close to that. Similar argument and it's completely valid. My cell phone for example takes amazing shots at 4 megapixels. It is a low light god. It has an actual image stabilization type thing. HDR, white balance, and tons of other settings. I am so happy it has that when and if I need it. But it still isn't the right tool to document events that are planned. You don't hunt tatonka with a slingshot. The other factor is, you can learn to take better shots on a point and shoot by learning how photography works on a DSLR. You cannot do the reverse with the exception of some fixed lens uber spendy units. The one nice fact about some point and shoots is the retarded zoom. Fucking 50x optical, and such. Wow! That is kind of cool. But most of those are as big as DSLRs

You might as well learn how to take good pictures before you have the little booger balls and then you won't be kicking yourself in the nuts if you miss a big shot.

The wife and I are both horrible at remembering to take pictures. She wants to get a camera to use for occasions, vacationing, etc. I would assume plenty of landscapes, buildings, pictures of the two do us taken by someone else, etc.Budget... I was thinking 500-600 but she thinks its too much for a camera. She also wants to be able to point and shoot and not worry about all the settings. I want good pictures and would love to play around with it. You and your wife are diametrically opposed on what you want. In this case you need to help her understand that a DSL is inherently easier to use than a P&S, because they are. If she has no interest in learning settings then she can use auto. I have literally shot entire events in auto and had great results. I took 3-4 times the amount of pictures and missed some things, but as good as half the "pros" at the event. Do you nave a camera exchange there? You could go demo things. A really nice 500-600 point and shoot will be large and cumbersome just like a DSLR. In fact the new ultra small body from Canon might be smaller than some of the big zoom P&S. Lastly, you will probaby have kids, and when you do, you WILL buy a DSLR and probably one that takes movies.

I would be REALLY hard pressed to recommend Nikon unless it is the 3000 for video. They make everything harder to do, and there is a smaller used market. They are great cameras with fine glass, but unless you know why you want a Nikon over a Canon, you want a Canon. My co worker loves his Sony, and that has some distinct advantages, like FPS. But it is a dog in a lot of other ways. There is only one camera that is interesting to me that is not Canon and it would only be for landscape or astralphotography. Neither would persuade me to jump ship unless it paid me.

70 is a little long on a crop for portraits. Image stabilization is huge tooIt is a little long but I set mine on 70 and walked around taking "portraits" and it was a really good shot. I also did a Fuck ton of research on how the extra distance can help. Also looked at the quality of the shots from that big white SOB and it beats out the shorter zooms in overall quality. It also will help for when I want to do wildlife and sports. And with an extender I can get pretty damn pervy

Quinten, the choice bed from tempur is much much better than the other air beds when laying in the middle, but I would still recommend something like the cloud lux or the cloud grand if you are feeling like a baller.

I have basically decided on the 70-200mm ISii in fact. Pending a rental from west photo. With my 18-135, and that I will be set. That 70-200 is about perfect for portraits.

I wouldn't want to live without zoom or at minimum a few lens options, or without SLR capabilities.

I cannot find a true well made Dunlop or talalay mattress in the twin cities. Some with a thin layer. Latex is so damn spendy right now.Aside from what I sleep on the most comfortable bed ever was a latex bed. It was heaven. Who makes good latex mattresses nowadays? Relatives have been looking for a quality latex. When I bump into some of the reps I will ask for you. I have been to every local place shopping the competition and no one makes one based on latex other than Kings Down. I found it at Ethan Allen.

Defeats the purpose. Point & shoot or DSLR. Of course the caveat being if you can live with a single prime. Can you go into detail more on living with a single prime?Wife already is balking on the idea because we don't "need" one for what we do. What do you want it to do? Here is what I will say, if it doesn't shoot in RAW, you are loosing out BIG time. If you are taking them to put on facebook, then no big deal, but if you want to have them printed etc, then you need to be able to edit. RAW is the best format for editing.

It makes sense. Rayon is fantastic feeling. I get so hot and sweaty it might not work for me. But knowing they don't suck makes me feeel better. Tempur sells them on their website and it shocked me that they would use it.

They are price mapped but if you go to a mattress firm they might have some in clearance or floor model that could save you big big bucks. The Alura is the only true pillow top. The Alura cloud isn't as good as the firmer of the 2 but it comes down to your comfort. If it helps at all, the sales staff sleep on the cloud lux almost 3:1 for those who can afford it. Probably the most awarded bed on our floor too.
