    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

You need to make a simple syrup. It's so easy and the benefit of actually dissolving into the drink My Old fashioned consist of the following: A few shakes of bitters (I've never felt like I've overpowered it) Maraschino Cherry Slice of Orange (or sub orange liquor in a pinch) Ice Fill most of the rest of glass with bourbon One more Cherry Spash of Club Soda (I feel like carbonation enhances the flavor) Slice of Orange for garnish I use the ice to muddle the first ingredients and then stir a little after the club soda. Obviously our recipes are very different. I really like the way the fruit and club soda enhances the flavor. You are correct that great bourbon is not necessary. I pull out the Evan Williams Black Bourbon mostly for an old fashioned. the Bulleit 10 Year and Texas Bourbon are better enjoyed with a bit of ice. I'm so glad you quoted this. I didn't see the original. Both of your methods make me happy. For real cheep bourbon I like the fruit salad approach Mike has. For more refined hooch I like a more straight up approach. I have come to love the whisky/bourbon sour method with an egg white. It made even the WORST bourbon I have ever purchased a bollttle of, tolerable. It was Jim Beams "Devils cut" for the record. I spent an entire season of mad men trying to find a way to drink that swill.

A lil Jay-Z I see Seemed apropos. I listen to a lot of that style of rap when trying to motivate sales and work on business planning. Jazz, Hip-hop, and Paul Simon end up in heavy rotation.

I'm not sure what you are getting at...... That said I'm gonna probably blindly agree rather than get smashed in a physics debate with a physicist....

Let's magically say batteries are free, can store a whole bank of deep cycles in something the size and weight of a silver dollar. You still need to provide energy to the battery. So an alternator? That is powered by the belt/chain/shaft(point of loss). I'll skip the rest of the combustion engine loss as that would happen anyway. From there the electricity has to be stored and regulated(point of loss). Then you have to put that energy to use again and suffer the loss from battery to electric motor. Regenerative braking is helpful here, but adds another system, more weight and mechanics to fail, etc etc.... Pluss it feels, it's an interesting feeling..... It charges the battery in my car actually so I deal with it every time I slow down. So we take fuel, turning it into motion, add a gear of some kind, then use that kinetic motion to create a different fuel to then create motion. We are not efficient enough that the possibility of overcoming momentum with gathered energy from another energy source is more efficient than just using one energy source.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Yep! I get seriously pissed because 95% of my industry earns based on performance. We either get straight commission, flat rate (pay based on actual hours turned), percentage of total profit, etc. I see a ton of apprentices in my shop with no drive. I hear "I don't want to work hard", "This is harder work than I expected", "I didn't know you got paid like that", etc. The kids in this country are expecting everything to be handed to them... Fuck hard work, just give it to me because I deserve it! Fucking losers. There are energy savings, but most of those buying the hybrids are all about their impact on the environment. The truth is, a Prius... the bastion of green driving... has nearly 2.5X the carbon footprint of an H2, and 3X the total cost of ownership over the life of the vehicle. Wow, someone who understands what this election is about. Leftists are trying to paint this as a presidential election. Interestingly most of the grey areas in the country are running away from Obama's policies, and saying this isn't about him or his policies... Obama hurt many Dems by stating this election is about him. Even more so with the annual growth of recipients and the aforementioned insolvency. GWB was just as liberal as Obama. He was a fucking disgrace to his party. While I follow more libertarian views, I am aware that throwing a vote that way is throwing a vote in the trash. We live in a 2 party society, and I need to pick my battles well. I am more of a social liberal, but I am a firm economic and political conservative (to the literal sense of the word conservative, not the Rush Limbaugh/GWB neo con liberal version of conservatism). I do believe the federal government is intended to deal with interstate commerce, international commerce, Immigration, and the military, and that is all. The complete overreach of today's federal gvt is stunning. Bush showed me he had zero conservative values when the Terry Schaivo incident occurred. What a fucking hypocrite! With regards to "energy savings" I am more looking at total carbon footprint. The total energy(carbon footprint) spent over the life of a hybrid/all electric (at this time) is always greater than the kind that run on dinosaurs and nothing else. If someone cares about gas savings, and keeping monthly costs down the hybrids are ever worse for most.....unless there are government subsidies. The high cost of the vehicles manufacturing means you can't make it for cheep. The extra maintenance, while not massive it sounds like from you Seth but here I only hear horror stories, is added into monthly out the door. Also, if you just wanted to spend the least in fuel and get a nice ride you can get a diesel golf and grab 50mpg real world driving. Physics taught me a long time ago that every time you convert forms of energy you loose some to things you don't want. So taking gas, turning it into electric power and then turning that into motion will Never be as efficient as turning fuel into motion. It's not possible. All electric might get there, and hybrids might have some convenience, but it is impossible for it to be as efficient. That was my point.

most don't care about energy savings...they want to pay less for their gas each month. More fuel economy means less out of pocket. That is as much a pressure on the auto makers as gov't standards. Net ecological cost means nothing...net out of pocket cost is important. I see it every single day, I make car loans for a living. People get rid of their old gas hogs for more fuel economy. Truck guys drive around in Aveo's and shit because it uses 1/2 the fuel. I see it, daily. Then your point is that Seth's entire rant was meaningless..because the whole thing was a giant rant about left wing federal programs and specifically pointed at Obama. His "main point" question there at the end even specifically mentions Obama. He mentions federal programs several times, and specifically Obama throughout the post. If my response to his rant was irrelevant, then his ENTIRE rant was equally meaningless and maybe he should have left Obama and those federal programs you cite as meaningless OUT of his post. But he didn't, so fair game. If you are going to complain, don't make shit up. Don't bitch about SSDI tripling under Obama when it HASN't. That's what is absurd. People using bullshit statistics to try to validate their political views or to validate their dislike of some political party. The ONLY reason I even responded to that section was because his figure was a fucking LIE and WAY the hell off from the truth. You're way too emotionally involved to have this conversation. Seth has been here for years, and if you think his intentions are to specifically seek out manipulation and "fucking LIE" I lost a load of respect for you. If his facts were wrong, he didn't use them knowing so. You should also know better that 2 people can look at the same raw data and come up with 2 different numerical values buy the end. Anyone who has taken statistics should know that the outlying data is always thrown out, and depending on who did the throwing, the data is skewed as such. Attacking someone personally for their beliefs is a shifty trait. Maybe you didn't intend for it to come off that way, but you sure as hell went right to judging other people right away.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

What frustrates me is most people see a difference. There isn't. On every major subject Obama and Dubbya voted the same. They are both chickenshit fuckfaces. Bush was at least funny and could dodge a shoe. Obama is at least black and we'll spoken most of the time. But it's all arbitrary. I don't need statistics to prove that neither pass the sniff test for making the country better. What is the bullshit is that Romney or McCain may have had a positive impact, or been at least different. I didn't support either one of those schmucks either, but I'm fairly certain they would have been smarter than who is in office now and who preceded him.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

SSD increase in one president is still absurd. But that's not the point here. The point is it was loosened and shouldn't have been Obama isn't tightening things up so he is just as big of a schmuck as the other idiots.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

As for the comment about voting next week... Your comment about federal minimum wage has nothing to do with anything that Seth is talking about in regards to that vote. The 5th is not presidential and thus has less to do with federal, so the federal minimum wage is not a valid point. If you would like to introduce it as one, then Seth's story paints a much more grim future as the local increase is hurting those who work harder as described in his statement.

I don't know anyone interested in complex drivetrains and motors. No one. They want better ecology, not even economy. And it's a lie. There is no savings of energy in an electric or hybrid vehicle. Zero energy savings. Most have a larger ecological impact than the drivetrains that run on liquid dinosaurs.
