3rd is that the show of force was insane. They had so many other options. Instead of a safer option that cop decided to jump on that big dudes back like the dread pirate Roberts did Andre the Giant. Either his training failed or he made a real shifty choice on his own. I have seen plenty of times where the cops beat the fucking life out of someone who isn't resisting. You can definitely argue that the big dude was resisting. Then use a technique that is approved and appropriate.

2nd point is that police should be held to a higher standard. If they don't like that, then they shouldn't do the job. This wasn't even some rookie uniform. It was obviously an overzealous guy trying to do an extra good job. His mistakes results in deaths directly by his hands. So yeah, he should be judged harder than anyone. My role in leadership means I have to be judged harder. Same for a cop.

Ryan and Seth are completely right. My guess is that Stephan s frustration is that they have immunity that goes above and beyond job perks as those perks don't even result in death as a byproduct. This is directly causing death. Accident or otherwise that officer killed someone. Maybe the punishment of living with that is enough. It was also one of the softest choke outs I have ever seen. And the person being detained was huge. They didn't know he was asthmatic or had a heart problems. He was just a big scary criminal at the time. None of that matters in this case. A cop used excessive force, with a hold that is banned. He did it deliberately. He did it when there were countless other options. That cop needs to face his consequence just as you did yours Seth. Again, maybe an indictment isn't the answer, but it sure would be if it wasn't a cop.

I'm not law enforcement, I'm not a lawyer, but I know when I see someone roll their forearms to buck a chin up and then use your other arm to cut off air. I have no witty comment. That chokehold was the opposite of an accident. If I restrained someone who broke into my house I would still have justified manslaughter on my record.

They didn't arrest him in the video I saw. He was being detained. Maybe they were going to arrest him, maybe they made that clear to him. It was unclear on the video and there were 5 of them. The cop is told not to choke someone. He is hopefully not trained on it illegally. However, he instantly holds a choke until the man stops moving. Waaaaaaaaay after they have a knee on his head and on his back and legs. So how does a cop trained and told not to do something do that exact thing until he kills a man. That wasn't a headlock that turned chokehold. He had the guys chin up and crossed his other arm to add pressure. It was deliberate.

That cop murdered a that man. It was murder. He probably didn't intend to, but he murdered him. It wasn't self defense, it was murder. Same as me in a fistfight punching a guy and he dies. It's completely fucked. Maybe the cop doesn't deserve an indictment, but he assaulted another human with aggression waaaaaay past what was needed. With 5 officers no one needed to put an arm around his neck or a knee on his head. I'm scared of police, and I'm a white dude who doesn't even speed.
