    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I actually give that book to all the managers that report to me, and most of my trainees. Their willingness to read it and if they apply the info helps me gauge their interest in moving up in the company. It's obviously not even a metric we use to score people on. For me though if someone puts in the time to read it, I am more likely to spend time coaching them.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

This is some of the most meaningful writing I have seen in a long time. Well said Jared. Also makes me want to reevaluate things as well. J Wow, guess I went on a tyrant. Still pertinent to the discussion though. (Hadn't smoked yet to dull my senses)J, you should always reevaluate life. Often if not daily. I try to reevalute where i am in life a few times a year at the least. It usually happens when something significant occurs. The main issue is deciding what needs fixing, and what is good as it is.J What works for me is writing down my goals, plans and just general things I have to do or want to accomplish. I make the lists on my phone in the notepad. I can Get everything written down and out my head, then I can focus on one thing at a time. I reflect on the lists often. This helps me stay in touch with my short and long term goals. Also not being afraid to admit when something isn't important, or is not working anymore, and being about to cut my loses. Keeps life organized and is efficient.I may try this out. Sounds effective as hell. J Reflecting on the lists helps me to prioritize what I am doing with my time. Hell, sometimes they just give me a perspective change, and thats all I need. When nothing else can change, then change your perspective is my motto. Honestly I have you to thank for that train of thought Matt. Really? I didn't know. I'm beyond flattered boss. It's all the bed, I'm sure.

Writing down your wins, losses, encounters and goals is huge. Review weekly. It's one of the most important rules you will learn. If you haven't, read How to Win Friends and Influence People and How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. Both my Dale Carnegie, and usually found together called Dale Carnegie's Lifetime Plan For Success. HTMFAIP is Easily the most important book I ever read.

That's what I use when I'm at home. On the road it's Pandora. I have a 4 mile daily commute and then the one day I drive a bunch I still just hit a station and go.

The 1.8 would be enough and focus faster and is just as sharp and can be had for $50 if you shop. It would be perfect and a price that makes it nearly "disposable". ;-)

50mm 1.4 for affordability.I'd go test one. Easy to see if it will have enough reach and view as it is definitely a portrait style lens on a crop. 50mm prime is hard to beat. If you got oodles of cash get the 1.2 from Canon. That lens give me 90° rubbery ones.

24-70 is FF 17-55 To me it depends on your body. If it is crop, you need the 17 as 24 will make some indoor stuff impossible. Ha... I have the 16-24 or whatever. I forgot that there is a zoom that versatile in the crop sensor. DOH! As an add on to the body comment, sensor size makes a huge difference. I have a crop and FF. For people, I always grab my FF. It's a better body with better low light performance. When shooting my friend racing his sports bike, the crop helped a shit load. My 70-200 with extender became a 640 or some such flimflam.

I shoot hand held and consume a ton of caffeine so I feel I made a good choice. Sometimes I do feel a hair faster AF could get me more shots.... The reality though is the 2.8 70-200 usm is ii is unbeatable for wildlife, kids, portraits, concerts, headshots.... Basically anything other than wide shots. The 24-70 is for group photos that are arranged or when I can't back up far enough. Like the wedding in Italy. I figured the VR from Tamron would buy me more stops in the dark lit church and such. The wide pig was also something that was needed. The 1.2 was not as useful in Italy, but would have been for Paris. The 50mm 1.2 and the 70-200 make up almost 75% of the shots on my body now however. :-)

I would add a 24-70 to Sean's list if you shoot more people than things. That is my only non Canon lens actually. I'm still on the fence for that decision. I saved a $600 or more at the time of purchase, got some VR but lost AF SPEED.

If you shoot people you should invest in the cannon 2.8 70-200 USM ii. I'm sure Nikon offers something similar. I will say though that the Canon version is the absolute best in the biz.
