oh and if you haven't already, Kader, you should check out the nuclear industry. They always need competent engineers
-
Ever see them refuel a nuclear reactor? That's what they're doing here right now; refueling and maintenance Will be nice when they get the two new reactors in, then my parents can sell this house and retire up by the rest of our family...
-
I tend to agree, the companies in dollars I cited aren't very large. $100M should be less than 250 people with a breakdown of 50 engineers/software, 50 office staff/production, and the rest in sales. I completely misread your initial post; honestly don't know what I read it as...maybe 10-100B or something...try checking out http://www.theladders.com/ just for shits and giggles would be my recommendation...

I do dealings with those people occasionally. They are getting masters in engineering. That's something else I wish I could fit into my resume. "Actually knows how to use a welding machine." welding "machine" ? some call them welding machines, some call them welders like saying hot water heater

drove the Taurus home after a concert once, had water all the way up to the rocker panels, trucks going way too fucking fast constantly throwing water over the hood, but it got us home without a whimper damnit
-
Yep; parents had an Aerostar with the Vulcan, both my sister's Taurus and my Ranger had them as well. Saying they can go through hellfire and brimstone is a understatement.
-
I can do it in 15 minutes with nothing more than a 3/8" drive and 8,10,13, and 15mm sockets. some moronic mechanic must have worked on ours then; took a helluva lot of persuasion to get those bolts to loosen, had the car rocking back and forth for god's sake...considering this town I'm not surprised though... power tools how I love thee
-
Ever seen someone try to take off the intake manifold of a Ford 3L Vulcan with an 18" breaker bar? Yeah, that's my dad; took him years to finally invest in a compressor and air tools...
-
sounds like a good show. I've had grad students say they could mix 5ft^3 of concrete better by hand with a hoe then the mixer could.... I have a general preference for power tools myself; work smarter not harder

I need a job badly...running out things to do...
-
Another thing I realized just in the past few months...you know that line in Office Space: "I'd relax, I would sit on my ass all day, I would do nothing." That used to be one of my career goals, until I realized I can't stand just doing nothing...now I have to find a NEW career goal...damned school used to keep me from thinking too much...now nothing is there to stop the flow of thoughts...argh...

not that I'm a pessimistic asshole who finds an excuse to not pursue something, I'm just realistic Not enough depth perception to be a professional athlete Too much self preservation instinct to be a stuntman/extreme sportsman Not enough patience to do anything extremely detail oriented No desire to be a nurse, doctor, or surgeon Too lazy and intelligent for blue collar slave labor (as a career, not as a stepping stone to something better) etc.

I didn't see any walkers or canes when I was up at your house, did you hide them that well? HEY! I have a cane and a walker at my house and I just graduated from college!
-
I learned through a lot of trial and error (and about 3 or 4 trips to the ER) what my future career goals would be it also helped a lot (for me anyways) to ask "what don't I want to do for a living" instead of "what do I want to do for a living"

<-- has never applied for a job I haven't gotten. Which is exactly why I should go apply for something new, only to shoot the moon. Someone encourage me. Double dog dare you. Find one for me to apply to General Dynamics, Dell and Lockheed are looking for senior positions to fill down here in TX

Haha! Dammit I don't play a single thing. What should I learn........ Chicks seem to dig guitars, but to me that's overplayed. Maybe if I can get a bitchin' oboe I'd be golden. My boss's teenage son plays the accordion. I didn't know anybody learned that anymore. The classical guitar is the hardest instrument to learn. I would add a by far, but I am sure I will antagonize someone and get them to argue with my statement. Don't pick up a guitar and play folk or rock, won't help your concentration nearly as much as something that makes you do multiple things at once. both my niece and (dyslexic) nephew play violin, seems to help tons. I took the easy way out: pills I'm sure your wife will be delighted to know that tidbit

Once again I am wrong, Atlanta is half the distance to my current location as Chicago
-
Might be good for the resume (might not, dunno) but its hard to beat either UT Austin's or UH's business schools when I take into consideration how close they are to my current location. The closest business school to offer as good an education as either UT or UH is the University of Chicago. Georgia might be closer but I doubt it...heard some good things about University of Denver too...
-
UT Austin has a 24 month MBA program in Houston though; classes are every other weekend...might go down that path after I get on my feet...
-
Would have loved to go to UH; extremely close to home, world class business school, great name recognition... oh well...
-
I forgot to add University of Houston, Texas Tech, and Baylor
-
then she suggested I start out as waitstaff and "in a few years I could apply for the internship again"...
-
Pappa's Restaurants would not put me in their management internship because I lacked managerial experience; no shit dumbass that's why I am applying for the internship...

3.9, two B's in 4 years, Those two B's were in theory based math classes. Was VP and President of a volunteer organization that won highest awards in the organization, lead tech for transmission in my senior design project (rotating machinery anyone?) Member of the engineering honor society, recipient of an award only two people in the Mech engineering program recieved (the other guy did get an offer from Exxon), recipient of an award only 2 people in the Houston area received, etc... wtf else do you need??? Does your diploma have "University of Texas" or "Texas A&M University" on it?
