IMO a sear burner is an accessory to a grill, not a repalcement. I wouldn't want one of those inside, but would love to have my actual grill in a covered porch. They call it a grill, so I call it a grill. A grill for one or two perhaps but a grill nonetheless Infrared charburner is what they call it and it is what it is. Good for getting a crust, but not so good for grilling. I have one as an accessory burner on my outdoor grill and love having it, but would hate only having it. Oh no its not one of those infrared searing things; the one I'm talking about is an actual gas burner (or two, depending on the model) underneath the grill grate.

which is what I would normally use about 90% of the time; save the BGE XL for crowds and for BBQ

my version of an ideal setup would be a cooktop with one of those built in grills for everyday usage with the XL BGE on hand for cookouts and BBQ

Mostly grilling. The only reason I am interested in doing this is because I read what you guys are saying about doing this and figured I would give it a try. If I liked it maybe I could get rid of the gas grill. As for what I would cook, pretty much anything that is good to eat. I love smoking and charcoal and all that but quite honestly its far too much of a hassle for one or two people compared to a gas grill I am lazy though,

I could blow glass in it. I regularly find medium size hunks of glass in the ash when I let the old coal burn off. I'm pretty sure it can get into the 900's at the grate if not much more. I should also mention that it burned off the felt gasket they have on there in less than 5 seconds once after opening while insanely hot. Nice! If it can't reach at least 700F it ain't a grill as far as I'm concerned

I managed to get my C4 so hot that the glass on the thermometer shattered. It also burned the edges on the gasket I have which has a melting point of 1500F. It won't stay that hot that long though.

I personally like the fact that it is naturally aspirated if for no other reason than less moving parts... The 10,000 miles between oil changes is nifty too...

since we're talking BGE's here, just how hot can you get 'em? 700? 800? More?

weird why they just wouldn't throw in a loosely souped up eco boost and call it a done. It would have more power they the FI of the turbo. then they would have no need for the V8 can't be a mustang without a V8

I purchased my BGE based on Sean's recommendation. I have probably through cooking for others sold 2 more. I will probably buy another BGE at some point, or else buy a full on drum rig for huge events. Cooking for 30 on one BGE was a bit congested. I was able to get 14 lbs of Boston but the night before, a brisket and then 3 racks of st louis and the tips done. It would have been about 10 times easier having a larger unit though. Another BGE >> barrel smoker. Just get the XL I've been tossing around the idea of building a ceramic barrel smoker just for shits and giggles...too much time on my hands is never a good thing...

Done in terms of the house being sealed back up. Still needs silicone and trim boards, but all that plus actually paint should be done by the 7th And then repaint the other two walls of the porch And then repaint the porch "ceiling" And then rip out the existing porch lights and exchange for a pair of outdoor ceiling fans And then patch, etch, and apply some sort of slip resistant cement coating to the slab And then rip out the paneling in the den And then rewire up all the outlets in the den and officere And then insulate the exterior wall in the den and office And then drywall the den and the exterior wall of the office And then rip out the ceiling in the den and replace with tongue and groove cedar planks And then...And then...And then...And then...And then...And then...And then...
