Long time member here first build log though. I have on order 2 sundown sa-12's and from what I already have gathered i need about a 4cu ft net common chamber box and I want to get around 30Hz tune. Looking for ideas on design as far as sub and port orientation. I plan on removing and reloacting the jack so i have more room to work with back against the cab wall. I am also making a false floor/platform to have a nice area to work with. I have 1500 watts on tap, stock electrical although I am also going to upgrade my power/grounds under the hood. I have a pretty beefy battery and with only 1500 watts I should survive with just charging upgrades. Have in the past but we shall see what voltage looks like when I get that far. Running out of post time atm but as far as my goals go Im just looking to get low and decently loud, I listen to mostly rap, some electronica and rock from time to time as well. Thats it for now, should be starting as soon as the subs get here. Just want to get some ideas for the box and I can get started on that as well. The. Its Pic time

Consists of a 12" Dayton Titanic mk III and a Dayton HPSA500 for power. Box will be around 3.5 cubes tuned to 25 Hz with 3 4" aero ports. Should sound pretty good hopefully. I will try to get some pics of the build but in the mean time, thoughts/input?

Although what you do when you drive around is your own business, you should have just said in your first post "help me achieve 140dB + in my maxima" then listed your setup options and left out your need to drive around full tilt. People will respond more kindly to that and you might even get some good info/help.

Well if I were you, I would do whatever the wallet told me to get at the time... you can always upgrade in the future.

I know a couple CRX'ers around my area and they all went from the traditional CRX box to the sonotube style and all of them got louder.

Very nice install man, I am jealous. How does your suspension like all that weight? Now get some vids up man!

The amp is a Dayton HPSA500 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=300-806

I have the sub and amp, and planning to build a box. I don't want to upgrade if at all possible, so I think I am just gonna try 3.25 cubes tuned to 25Hz and see if I like it... if not I will build another.

Hmmm, I would but I don't want to buy another sub... I mean I guess I will be doing more music out of it than anything but I just want to have a better low end all around because the little Aiwa powered sub I have now is garbage. So if I have to raise the tuning a little I will do so.... 27-30Hz maybe.

Ok, I understand that now. I wonder if I can get away with one 4" flared... vent mach on winisd is 0.11 and it should be even lower because of the flare correct? And I would only need a total length of 13.56.

Thats also why I threw Thumper in the title guess I should have just said music... I guess I chose the titanic because I wanted it to show up the same time the amp did and people have said good stuff about the driver so I went for it.

Ok, only reason for that tuning is because I plan on feeding it music more so than movies. What would you suggest for a port configuration? Thanks for the input.

Actually now that I think about it, I want to do 4 3" aero ports. Sub front firing and ports front firing in the 4 corners around the sub. the only thing is I dont know how long they need to be to get the tuning I want... I used the psp-inc.com calculator and got this: Volume of Box in Cubic Feet: 3.5 Tuning frequency: 25 Hz Port diameter: 3" Number of Ports: 4 Straight Length Port required: 32.64 Flare Length Port required: 33.64 How do I look at that and know what each port has to be?

I do believe it has been done before and I am certain I saw the pics on mr. meades website. It was with 2 18" RE MT's.

Fi Audio Choices and what would be need to buy with?
Rapatari replied to sam9007's topic in General Fi
Lol our posts are so badly timed. But yeah, I am reverting my previous post do the 1 15" Q with a decent amp and box. Then you can get your componnents or any type of replacement speakers with the money left over. -

I vote that you go with 1 15" Q, and if you really want a HiFonics amp go for it. you yourself probably won't notice the absent little bit of power. its a good starter amp, I have had 3 of them and only one had problems and it was an 03 model before they upgraded their boards and one was stolen. The third one I keep around as a back up amp. -
Yeah, where abouts in SE WI?? im in West Bend. Soon to be building a new setup.
