Thank you denim, I assume by track record and proven performance you are speaking of Hybrid and the huge amount of trophies and SQ champions that have used the products, and how they were designed with the utmost of critical care by one of, if not the best guy in the business when it comes to SQ. hype is something not proven, Hybrid is proven, the high prices of premium eton, scanspeak, rainbows, focals, dynaudio, that is more hype than anything. I will gladly spend 1k on a full 3-way set from hybrid over the thousands of dollars in which their competitors charge for products that are claimed to even compete.

no, the 12m doesn't have shit on the L4 I promise you. the 12m has nowhere near the same Q as the L4, nowhere near the power capablities, can't play as low, can't play as high, and has a rainbow response curve as do most midranges out there, not a flat response. not to mention it's still a very pricey driver.

oh really? and I suppose now you are going to tell me the best sounding cars in the world are active and not passive? haha sorry, but I have some strong foundations on this stuff, maybe you would like me to grab a couple world class SQ guys to chime in? oh, and I would also love for you to tell Scott Buwalda, the godfather of Sound Quality (before Hybrid even existed) that the car that won back to back SQ world championships with kick-panel installs has problem with stage height! LOL I would love to see you try tell him that. Kicks work great because they are further away from you, and the distance difference from left and right drivers is very minimal, so sound waves hit you at the same time resulting in the affect of the drivers sounding as if they are far in front of you, and present a beautiful stage that is at eye level (ear-level) and also great stage width as that is also the widest spot in the vehicle. In SUV's many times kicks are even that much better because the dash overhand doesn't interfere. however, trucks are much wider than cars and usually a couple m/s t. corr. fixes the problem where it feels as if you are sitting on the left side of the stage from the driver's seat.

why RE? why not a Fi BL? RE is expensive, and I would much rather buy a product from Scott rather than the old company he worked with. an SSA Xcon would work quite well for you too. fully loaded BL, or an SSA Xcon would be my recommendation.

I think I know what show you are talking about on Dec. 6th as that's the same one I am getting mine together for...in Seffner

well I was just finishing my longer detailed explanation, but now i'm pissed cause my laptop decided to go back a page, therefore losing everything i just typed. maybe I will re-post at another time, but right now I am far too f****** pissed to do it. anyway air movement is caused by the difference in air pressure. sure cone movement and displacement can make a big difference here, but if that was the sole reasoning then a 15" cheap sub on 500 watts with 40 mm of xmax would move more air than a Fi BTL 15 with 28mm of xmax. same size woofer making larger movement would displace more air, but it doesn't create nearly the same pressure. this is also the reasoning for why there isn't much air movement when vehicle is all sealed up, because the pressure is constant.

Not if stage height is important yes, even when stage height is important. you need to get some demos in some world class SQ cars, when properly done, you wouldn't even know the speakers were in the kicks because in a true SQ system the location of the speakers is audibly in-detectable. and the best location to achieve this is in the kick-panels. when kicks are not done properly is when the stage is lowered and and audible attention is brought to the location rather than the stage.

you are right, one driver playing as much of the spectrum is good, which is why 4" mids often are a much better choice than 3 or 2 mids because 4's, especially high-end ones can cover the bottom octaves of the vocals into the mid 100's. 3" mids often can only play into the ~250 hz range which leaves the lower-end of the male vocals being shared by the mid-bass driver. what you are saying about 4" mids being compromises, makes no sense with your argument. My Legatia 4's for example at even higher power levels can play from 125hz, and have no need to even cross them over on the high-end. their flat response covers from ~120 hz up to 17khz. and when doing more easy listening, I even cross them as low as 80 hz. of course this an exception, and the Legatia 4 has proven to be disputably the best 4" midrange on the market. still any decent 4" mid will easily cover from ~200 hz up through 4-5khz, where ~4khz is a very common xover point for tweeters, and if anything a little higher than most.
-
no reason to have a 6" play up that high, but it can add reinforcement. and what are you talking about a 4" can be a compromise...compromise what? a 6 would be the mid-bass, and you can have that driver play as high as you want as long as it has the ability to do so in a clean manner with a decent response curve in that octave.

Waiting on jacob! lol The end of the month, and no amps, but I 'll wait because it will be worth it! But he did send me my 125.2 already! and trust me as soon as I get them you will see picture's! Because I'm going to gizz on them! lmao! plz take pre-jizz photos.... and steveman, this price is cheap, and I'm surprised they aren't gone already, don't haggle.

How to test alternator?
mjmarovi replied to mjmarovi's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Yeh, I have seen Ohio's proven in the lanes, and have gone through a couple good conversations with the guy that builds the alty's. He did a very good job explaining to me difference between their alternator and other's alty's. basically, it seemed to me his 200a alty at most rpm levels would give better results than other company's 300 a alty's, and also have a longer life. not saying there aren't other great alty's out there, as I'm sure there are, but we dicusses some kinda well-known alty's like iraggi and those green monsters and a few others... -
How to test alternator?
mjmarovi posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
So basically as the topic says, I think my alty is going out. It is causing some whining background noise, and I know all grounds are good, and rca's are clean. I remember having the problem when my old alty when out, and when I got the new one the background noise went away. Any ideas on how to test the alternator? I know you can disconnect battery after vehicle is started, but that it will really only test complete failure... -
I have seen it in Tahoe's before which worked well, the mid-bass was in the kick, and the mids/tweets in the dash. pillars aren't bad either, but dash gives a little better staging.

if you don't have any experience with the old BTL, then you will not know the difference. if you do, then you will find the new BTL simply has a slightly higher ability for SPL and power handling. the new magnet structure, (which you probably would have wanted the triple stacked version of the old BTL) but still the new structure has a stronger magnetic field better concentrated on the vc. basically the new BTL has better cone control than the old version, but as far as performance is concerned it's nothing drastic and depending on setups, it's not like ppl made the swap and gained 2-3 dbs just from subs swap. I heard of a few ppl gaining db's, but it was less than 1 db.... I def. wouldn't suggest trying to track down an old version, just get the new!

properly installed kick-panels will give great results, you just have to be conscious of angle that you build them. probably a simple install and solution I would recommend to OP is to go with a 3-way passive set of components. Mount the mid-bass in the doors, and 3" mids and tweets in the pillars. Rainbow, Focal, and Eclipse all make a nice sets that you can pick up for ~350, and IMO any three would be much better than the pioneers.

the Nightshade, it will handle much more power, the SXX will most likely not take the power of the 1500d. the 1500d will be closer to a 2000 watt amplifier, the Nightshade will handle that with ease, the SXX on the other hand, would not recommend doubling its thermal handling. The nightshade can put up impressive numbers, handle huge amounts of power, and also are quite musical for a daily driver. Sundown NS FTW on this one easily!

which is more than enough space. I am working on the box for ya right now, stay tuned to your PM's

what I think of present system...well I think after getting help on here with the new system, you will be that much more grateful and happy with the new build!!

kick-panels are a great location. on your dash further back closer to the windshield is another great location, and third would be the pillars. I have custom fiberglassed kicks and pillars, and absolutely love it! if you are lost on speakers, or want to tell us your price range I can make some recommendations for speakers, but in the end you have to listen to them and use your own opinion on what sounds best. As you can see, everyone agrees that rear fill is quite unnecessary, and since people in back are much further from the stage it actually generally sounds better to sit in the back! only problem is sometimes it narrows the stage, but don't worry about that, it's not a competition build

the tweeter xover point really has to do with the midranges ability, and it's output in that range from wherever is it mounted. I agree Hybrid mid-bass drivers, the L6's and L8's as amazing as they are, are also quite pricey. the midranges and tweeters I feel are well worth the price and def. not outrageous. the lotus mid-bass should be quite amazing, not really sure how well they would play up to 2khz, but if they play up to 2khz cleanly, you could get a pair of the hybrid proL1 tweets and only go 2 way, just an option, but 3-ways are pretty sick when pulled off properly. so lets get some info, would it be possible for you to take pics of possible mounting locations in your vehicle? ideally speaking you want less than a 16" difference in distance from left and right speakers from the listening position. or if you can't accomplish that, then as close as you can get. that's why doors are horrible cause right door is so much further away than left door. lol also, what price range are we looking at? I know those seas aren't cheap so I see you are willing to invest, that's good just want to make sure we don't go too crazy. also is this going to be a SQ competition goal or just daily SQ goal?

not saying this is the be all end all, but many problems start when the cyclical economy goes into a small decline and government attempts to step in telling everyone if they don't things will get way worse, and then by government stepping in and trying to make radical changes it only prolongs and worsens the the state of the economy. In the past we have always risen again, and I believe we will again, and the main reason we will is because most people do believe this. My problem is I hate how present administration is trying to use fear and desperation to make many political moves that severely counter the founding beliefs and practices on which the United States was founded. the entire world is basically in a recession, but for many years we have been the focal point of the world's economy, and if we faulter the world faulters, but if anything being the world financial power, which our position is absolutely slipping from being the worlds power, we would be the first to climb out of the recession and the rest of the world would follow. My problem is the moves our country's leaders are taking are the wrong moves and if continued will take us from the world power we are and turn us into a struggling, more social country such as russia. We came out of WWII because of ambition and and capitalism. And since then the countries that have more closely followed suit and continue a path closer to capitalism have proven to be more successful. Japan and China continuously make moves further from socialism and it shows. Other countries and many european countries have faultered from their positions of power as they move closer to socialism. History proves that a more capitalistic way has always been more successful, and after rising to success, a tyrant and or leader seeking more central power has destroyed their country and put them far behind the world.

it seems the train of thought is just plain out of wack. ppl need to be more independent and their thoughts and make the effort to do own research rather than just listen to the news. I mean I can't get over how people actually think that if someone is making millions of dollars a year it is OK to take everything they make except leave them what they need to live on, which of course they think they can decide. Don't understand that thought....and then they're the people that don't understand how every government program is broke and loses money. One guy actually tried telling me social security was not a failing program and that it was not going broke. Amazing..... but about the phone lol, yeh a friend that was over last night had one and it seemed pretty sick, the only thing is it seems like every phone is just taking idea from iphone and trying to incorporate something a little different, so in essence to get the best phone you still need an iphone. I admit I have the verizon copy-cat and it's nothing compared to iphone.

flatter responses always make it easier to tune, and still helps a lot even though conditions change in car. I personally have not made any eq changes...yet only xover changes and it sounds fantastic! I know a lot ppl that have used L4 mids and said they hardly even touched the eq. www.the12volt.com besides an authorized dealer or direct from hybrid audio is the only choice for purchase. Prices are same as buying direct from Hybrid last I checked. Doors are really not great placement for an SQ setup. actually they are about the worst. for mid-bass only playing up into the ~100's it's OK, but mids/tweets are much better in kickpanels or pillars
-
you can do that, and if you already like the pioneers then cool go with them. normally I would say no need for rear fill, as all sound should appear to sourced in front of you, but if you want "rear fill" for ppl in back then go for it. IMO it's just really unneccesary
