everyone who sat in the car. of course you seem to feel you are more knowledgeable in SQ than all the guys winning the SQ trophies, so I guess you are going to tell me it isn't SQ until you say it is. get off your high horse as an admin here, really it doesn't scare me, and I am tired of you belittling my credit when the only credibility I have of you knowing anything is the fact that you are on the SSA tech team. since you know so much about SQ, why don't you compete?

I don't get what you think I don't understand install is important. YOU DON'T GET THE FACT THAT I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT INSTALL IS! THAT IS MY BASIS OF ALL INFORMATION! I asked the OP what his currents thoughts are on install, and then equipment, there is nothing wrong with that. stop trying to make some dumb comment after everything I say, you are not king of SQ, car audio, or this forum.
-
Only describing what drivers you own and saying lane worthy is a joke. The install is really what is important. Someday maybe you'll understand. of course it is all install, when have/did I ever say anything different? my car will be SQ worthy because of my install, not because of the equipment, the equipment is just a bonus to make it that much better. I look forward to seeing your install redone, maybe then I'll agree. At the moment though you have spent a bunch of money chasing results that aren't going to happen as implemented. you are speaking as if you have seen and heard any of the various installs I have done in my vehicle. I have been very pleased with the past two setups I had, and everytime I make a change it just gets bigger and better. what results do you think I am chasing that I have not accomplished? My only new goal is to hit a 154 on music out of the trunk. I have already accomplished great SQ in the past....

I don't get where you get off trying to tell me I don't understand the importance of install? I made several recommendations along with HAT, I'm sorry the OP did some research and actually is interested in a company you clearly despise, get over it. I really don't see why you care so much? You have something against people spending real cash on high-end stuff? We get it, although you lack experience with HAT, you don't feel they are worth the money, and nor does Impious. Ok that's your opinion, got it, no need to keep re-peating. OP: Can we get an idea of what your current thoughts are on install location, and what you current idea is for equipment? Then I can help you out on what you could improve on, and whether or not those drivers will work for your application. Also, I do apologize for so much petty childish thread-jacking.

I'm Having A Really Hard Time Deciding
mjmarovi replied to Dutchie.'s topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
to stick with your price range, two SA-12's from Sundown and a 1500d would be great. would kick the shit out of the type R's, that's for sure. you never stated what amp you have/were using? I am guessing something that puts out ~800 watts. the SA-12's on same power as the type R's would already be louder, so also moving up into the ~1800 watt range would be a huge upgrade. also, you need another battery. sorry but a single yellow top isn't shit. neither is a 200 amp alternator if it simply a re-spun OEM case, because then it is actually putting out less at idle than the stock alty. idle amperage is key. what kind of alty is it? -
Definitely a good idea, I recommend calling around some shops, and asking them what they can demo for you. If it was me, I would look up where the nearest authorized dealers are through the manufacturers I am trying to demo, and then call them up and make sure they will have something for me to listen to.

sorry if I missed it, what amps are you using?

doesn't compute? do you not understand? or am I just not explaining? I don't get what you are trying to tell me in that last post? Yes, when I have my SQ tune set, I let my L4's naturally roll-off both on the high-end and the lower-end. They PLAY down to 60 hz with sufficient audible output, and begin dropping off hard at ~50hz, but still pick up everything down to ~35hz. For those lower frequencies, the 6 1/2's in my doors do enough. So right now my SQ setup is quite solid, and I am in process of picking up the substage and building up the mid-bass for my louder daily driving. After I'm done my vehicle will be SQ lanes worthy, and also have ability to play music over 150 db's. which of course is not SQ, but I will more than 1 tune set on my processor for however I feel like listening to my music at that time. But this thread isn't about me, my system, or what it does, so lets finish helping the OP and find him some speakers. OP: sorry for minor thread-jack, and Sac-town is a ways from me, otherwise I could give you a demo.

from my understanding of the imprint, it only effects eq and time alignment, but xover points are set by the user. you can run the entire "4-way" from the H100, but you would have to have amps that set the HP for the mid-bass and LP for the subs. the only real draw-back is that mid-bass and sub amps would be sharing the RCA signal strength from the sub-out on the processor. that really isn't a huge issue though. I am ignorant for recommending speakers? Every driver I recommended is designed for IB which is exactly how the OP plans to install each driver. doesn't matter whether it is kicks, doors, dash, all the midranges and mid-bass are IB and that is how they are being installed. since he wanted to do a 3-way, on/off axis isn't a huge issue as off-axis mainly effects the midrange and its frequency range, which doesn't have to cover as many octaves sine it is a 3-way. Every driver I listed can work quite well in the install, some are simply better than others. I do understand you are trying to get as much info as possible, but you haven't really asked any specific questions to the OP. In fact, it seems you spend more time replying to me rather than helping the OP. also NCSU, I wouldn't worry about the Pro L1 tweet, the L1v2 will be plenty for you in a 3-way, the Pro L1 is much better suited in 2-way applications because of its lower frequency capabilities.

the optical is sooo worth it though, adds just that little extra! of course only worth it if you are doing a dedicated SQ system. -
Lots of good info there from Impious, but I guess i am the only one not afraid to name specific models of speakers I have either used or heard in person that I can have confidence in recommending. I think that list I made above is pretty good, there are a ton more options out there, I mean I didn't name Treo which is one of my fav. companies, but I don't have much hands-on with their mids/highs only subs/amps. as for the Hybrid two-way. It is not heard of that a few guys out there are using only L8's and Pro L1's as their complete system. No dedicated woofer and no midrange. This really depends on placement of the L8's though. In this type of setup the doors are probably not the best choice. best choice would be floor board next to the kick-panel. actually a pretty straight-forward install, and has proven to be excellent in SUV's, just can't be afraid to cut some stuff up. there are a few different build logs of doing this on the hybrid forums. Really for install tips, I would recommend looking through some build logs on www.buwaldahybrids.com whether you decide on their speakers or not, or even like their speakers or not, the installs are top-notch and prove themselves time and time again.

I'm sorry, since when does what processor you're using have to deal with what BRAND name of speakers to purchase? THE OP WANTS SQ AND HAS GIVEN PLENTY OF INFORMATION OF HIS GOALS AND WHAT SIZE. If you still have no clue what he is trying to accomplish, then re-read the thread.
-
yes, you are right, which is why i said play. output of course drops off pretty hard at about 50hz, but they still play every note. actually I might make a video of them during SQ, it's pretty amazing how much they can move and perform spot on. gettin ready to do a L8, Pro L1 SE setup in a friends ride, he has used JL, CDT Gold, Hertz Mille, and a few others in the past, and everytime he is dissatisfied and wishes he could sound like me, so now he's finally gettin his own Hybrid drivers. haha

I have mid-bass....I use my L4's and play them down to 31.5 hz for SQ demos. I also have a pair of hertz hi-energy 6 1/2's in the doors. I just want to try something different, which is why I don't have 3 sets in the doors mid-bass are still undecided. I think I want to try the Tang Band W6's.

You really could cover all the frequencies with a 2-way. It would be easier to tune as well. Really no need to get the imprint and the H701, one or the other is fine. The imprint will be more novice friendly, and the H701 is more manual tuning. It is kinda pricey, but a Hybrid L8 pair matched with a Legatia Pro L1 would be a 2-way system that would take care of ~40hz and of course up through 25khz. For something less expensive, I mean really "less expensive" is very relative. Tang Band and Peerless have several options whether you are looking to spend 300 dollars or 600 dollars. There is just too much out there, in reality, how much do you really WANT to spend on speakers? sorry for some stuff repeating, lots of stuff in this thread. here's some more finite drivers: for more inexpensive: 8" mid-bass: Tang Band W8, Peerless SLS 8, Polk db8450's, Rainbow W200's, CDT EF80's, Hertz Hi-energy 8's 4" mid-range: Tang Band W4, CDT (right now ES-4 golds on sale high-end stuff), Rainbow SLC 4's, Hertz Hi-energy 4's, MMats pro audio pro 4.0's, Morel Dotech 4's Tweets: CDT TW-25's or 24's. Seas Prestige 1" Textile Dome tweet, Tang Band Ceramic tweets with cloth surround, Image Dynamics NX30's, Mmats pro audio pro 1.0's, Focal TN-47's, Morel MT12's tried to get you a range of prices and a variety of companies. Personally for something that is less than the Hybrids, the Rainbows and CDT's are top-notch. The Hertz actually remind of similar sound as pioneer premier. the tang bands, seas, decent stuff, very inexpensive if you wanted to get an idea of what they're like and wait and upgrade later they would be a good start/entry into the SQ world.

I love my two sets, kicks and pillars it's quite nice hey Dean, where are you located?
-
there are a lot of great speakers out there, a lot of guys that have concentrated their car audio desire into SQ are running Hybrid Audio. Morel, Focal, they found quite popular in the SQ world as well. DLS, is another great company. I even like Zapco quite a bit. What size drivers are you looking at using for mid-bass and midrange? also, whether you choose them or not, check out the new Hybrid Legatia Pro L1 tweet in the black finish, it is downright dirty! http://www.12velectronics.com/servlet/the-107/HYBRID-AUDIO-TECHNOLOGIES-LEGATIA/Detail they are quite expensive, and really the Pro L1's are a better match for a 2-way system, so not necessarily recommending them to you, I just love the look! lol that website is the only authorized Hybrid online dealer BTW and they do offer pricing for a full 3-way set.

shared sealed chamber should do just fine. did I miss something for the enclosure space? thought you had a navigator. so on top of what you already have you are looking at a 2500 dollar budget? if so, I would suggest a nice 4-channel amp, and a 2-channel amp paired with a processor to be the power behind a great 3-way active setup. if you want to stick with memphis amps you can, nothing wrong with them. If you want recommendations on other amps, then sundown is always a great choice. There are plenty of other choices out there, the alpine PDX are great for something with a small footprint. I also like audison amps. what mounting locations are you looking at doing, and what size drivers do you have room for? this will help out with giving some speaker recommendations.

unfortunately your vehicle may not like the lows....but if your tuning is 35hz, then I am not really surprised you would peak ~40 hz, that sounds about right. add a cube of space and tune down to 30hz, that would make a huge difference. still need an idea of how low you are trying to go?
-
about the J-bodies....think you can compete with this? Jay-cee lets see some more pics? what you been up to?

the 205 and 505 are the best options. I have the 9887 and love it, using it to run my current active setup. I do not believe it is compatible with the h701 though, just the new imprints. They rid the 701 because it is their lower level processor. They replaced it with the imprint stuff. For the enthusiasts they have the H900 in the F1 status line, but it is wicked expensive. I wish they would have just made a small improvement on the H701, like give it the OPTION to have the auto-tuning feature on the imprint, but keep all the same older features. who knows maybe they will bring it back next year! the audison bit one is pretty sick though, I would recommend at least taking a look at it! -
just throwing this out there, do you guys help design/build or have anything to do with the sound pressure devices used on military ships to ward off pirates and what not? lol I'm sure if people don't know what I'm talking about they will have to laugh at this, but it is real! I also know before, that Scott said you guys do some stuff that actually helps reduce sound/noise in factories? what company name is this all done under? Yeh I know a few questions, just curious. back on topic, although I understand which each pole piece does, it would be neat to see where in the line they are actually installed and a more technical explanation of how they work.

ROFLMFAO!! on a side note to the OP just scroll around the forum, there are unfortunately countless threads on BTL power-handling, try looking around first, there are more than just one page on each section.
