    RCA's recommendation

Would it help if I told you they build out of the same house that makes Monster equipment?

    WTB: Budget Sub(s)

Because Vertex Audio is a direct competitor to SSA. They also carry Zed and Incriminator. You should be able to find info on the PRM by contacting Vertex directly. They're not a huge brand, so it's hard to get any information. I do have a friend who used a single 12" PRM and the A-12 in an Infinite Baffle setup and was very pleased with both. For IB, he stuck with the A-12 and noted that the PRM performs much better in a sealed enclosure than it does IB.

    RCA's recommendation

Definitely. I've only ever bought my HDMI cables and RCAs for HT use from them. Have one of their $25 wall mounts holding up a 64" Samsung plasma like a champ. yes, they're legit.

    WTB: Budget Sub(s)

Alright, guys, don't kill me for posting this link on here, but I think you'd be pretty happy with this on your LP. ESPECIALLY for $80 shipped: http://www.vertexaudio.com/store/pc/Ultra-PRM-12-Subwoofer-6p420.htm

    RCA's recommendation

Just because I got a great price on them, I'm pretty happy with my Audio Technix Premium RCAs. Definitely a bit more reinforced with techflex and rubber sleeves at both ends. I do like how the caps are removable for field-servicing as well. Do I think they're worth what AT wants for them now? I guess that's up to the buyer. I've also been recommended Vampire cables from www.vampirewire.com. Again, about 20 bucks each, but they have more options on length if you're looking for something specific. I've sen confirmed reports on about six installs now of zero noise transmission through the cables where it used to be a MAJOR issue (and that was running Tsunami, Rockford, and Monster). I will have to look into the Monoprice. Being basically an hour away, any regular order becomes an overnight one

    New Component Speakers <$250

You sir are hitting my listening style RIGHT ON THE HEAD. This is actually one of the reasons I am so attracted to he RE's because their tweeter is so soft. I have spoken with some installers and they have told me that I will have no problems with the depth of the RE as my door is deep and the window does not make it to the speaker location. One thing I have found is many of the speakers you are recommending exceed my budget by $50+ and I know that is not much but the RE's are 219 and the Sundown's are 199. Aside from mounting depth I have not heard anything bad about the RE's, does anyone have these or know of someone that does and has any complaints? Thanks! http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12260_JBL-P660C.htmlCurrently out of stock, but I would keep my eye on these guys. They are JBL Authorized as well. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_45048_JBL-MS-62C.html?SearchClickout%5Bquery_id%5D=7334834&SearchClickout%5BIgnore%5D=1 Use the Make An Offer and put $250 on the price tag. Tested and accepted at 249.99. You may be able to get them even cheaper than that. I LOVE these tweeters. Honestly, for metal domes, they are some of the most pleasant to listen to I've come across yet. Only downer is they're not as comfortable playing below 100Hz with authority as midrange was the emphasis and where they also excel. To remedy that, I replaced the woofers with PHD FB 6.1s and they do great off the JBL passive crossover and tweet. Would you say the JBL-P660C is better on the low end?Yes, I would. Though once you go into midrange and up, the MS definitely comes out ahead. I would say if you have a good sub stage, get the MS. If not, go for the P660C.

Did I buy the wrong Incriminator woofer?

I agree to a certain extent, but some of us want to know how FR is affected as enclosure size goes up or down. When you give us a min/max/average volume, it doesn't tell us how efficient or how flat/low it will extend, leading me as a consumer to want the largest enclosure, but going in blind when I have my builder make an enclosure. As mentioned before, he doesn't have T/S for my 18" DP at the moment which is why I'm thankful the build won't be taking place until the middle of next year. Hopefully he has them by then.

Did I buy the wrong Incriminator woofer?

Wow so they are butt holes because they don't post T/S specs for reasons but they will email you them if you ask. Recently they been busy with World Finals, releasing a whole new lineup, etc. I just got T/S specs for subs from them through email, with no issues. I actually got an email from Nick this morning. At least for the Death Penalty, he hasn't had a chance to extract T/S yet, which is why they're not posted. I'm sure once his schedule frees up a bit, he'll be able to let us know. In all honesty, I've seen more posted T/S for the current run of subs than I've seen for any of the previous. What's ironic is there's more T/S for the Flatlyne, yet no published pictures.

    JVC Head Unit

You'll have to use the unit that comes with the JVC which comes in the form of a USB dongle. You get two USB cables, but one will be occupied with the dongle. As far as I understand, there aren't a whole lot (if any) aftermarket units that will allow you to keep the stock BT setup.
  11. To my understanding, a 3dB gain is considered a barely audible difference. a 10dB gain would be a theoretical doubling of sound output. Either way, those CVRs need a new home first and, if that doesn't work, you need new subs. Can't really expect CVRs to get much louder than they probably already are.

    JVC Head Unit

Another KD-A95BT owner here. Came from Pioneer's 2012 non-nav flagship double-DIN and the difference in SQ is night and day. I'm kinda sad that I don't get as flexible an EQ (5-band vs 8-band graphic), but SQ is great when run flat anyway. I would recommend a bass knob for your sub stage, though, as sub level is kind of buried in the menu system. That being said, you do get a lot of sound tweaks like Time Alignment (which has presets for different vehicle types...in my car it's pretty accurate for a medium sedan) and the preset EQ settings aren't too god-awfully boosted. IMO, it would be worth it trying to figure out how to integrate it into the Hyundai. You do get a BT mic and 2A USB plug for fast charging of your devices.

Did I buy the wrong Incriminator woofer?

I haven't seen them yet. Been eagerly awaiting the new Death Penalty specs myself. And photos of the new Flatlyne...I know with the older model IA subs you had to call to get parameters and box recommendations. That's what I was thinking. Box recommendations are normally on SSA in their vendor forum, but haven't been updated for a while. I think Nick is just too overloaded to come here and update them right now. Keeps other companies from cloning them (cough Skar cough). In terms of business practice, I think it's smart, but sucks for us as the consumer.

Glad all that extra weight paid off, Chop. Looks like you're getting some SERIOUS output in that ride.

Did I buy the wrong Incriminator woofer?

I had the same doubts when I ordered an 18" Death Penalty (thanks Black & Blue sale), but realized that, more or less, it really comes down to the enclosure on how a sub is going to respond. Take the time on good enclosure design and the rest will follow. That being said, I've only ever run single 10 or 12" setups in a trunk car, so an 18" 2KW groundpounder sub is going to be well beyond my daily experience level. Should still be a great match run at 4ohms off a pair of Zed Minotaur, though

    New Component Speakers <$250

It would probably help to know what you've heard before and liked. It was touched on before that everyone has a different preference when it comes to their front stage. I, personally am a fan of laid back tweeters and tend to go for a sound that's somewhere between listening to a Hi-Fi system at home and hearing it performed live in front of you. That being said, I haven't heard any complaints when it comes to the sound quality from Sundown's components. The RE XXX perform very well all around, but I'm not sure you'll have the mounting depth for them. My personal picks so far have been the Rainbow SLC, JBL P660C, JBL MS, PHD FB 6.1 kit, Focal PS (about the only Focal aside from the Be series that I actually enjoy), HAT Imagine (can be found used within your budget), and even the Incriminator 6.5" components.
  19. Oh goody. Another internet fight over grammar Really, though, I'm surprised this thread has been going on as long as it has. Ultracaps were intended for a very niche market in car audio. It should not, nor do I predict it will, ever become a "normal" thing in the car audio industry. All it takes is for one newb who doesn't know what he's doing to set his car on fire or cause bodily harm to himself from using a set and it'll be a fading memory, just like the Helix capacitor bank and minidiscs.

    Tweeter Location

Need way more details than that. Dome material, FR, how low you're crossing them over, intended application, etc will play a factor.

    Zed Mikro

That's the M.O. for Woofers, Etc. They tend to sell a ton of stuff via eBay, but have a dedicated website as well. They will be showing up to SSA's storefront soon.
  22. You're getting wave cancellation with the trunk lid closed due to the long wavelength at bass frequencies. Things you can try are flipping phase of the subwoofer or using TA if your deck is capable of it to correct for this. Also play around with sub aiming. You may get a better response for SPL with the enclosure completely against the back wall of the trunk firing toward the cabin. I've seen this ends up producing the loudest response of the bunch, but it's harder to blend with the front stage.

    Anyone try the DD-1?

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I watched that entire 30-minute preview Tony D'Amore gave of the unit. I love how he says he's got a "new technology" for measuring current which turns out you're shoving wire insulation through a reeeeeeealllly narrow orifice instead of just using a clamp. So does "new" mean frustrating and unproductive?
  24. neo_styles

    Anyone try the DD-1?

I absolutely agree. Blind leading the blind. Lmao, just wait for the AMM-1 release. You will NOT be able to keep those cats quiet.

    Anyone try the DD-1?

Used it when I was a little more ignorant. The above statements are correct; you're only going to be able to measure for distortion at particular frequencies. In the DD-1's case, that's 50Hz and 1KHz. Also, to follow instructions to the letter of the DD-1's usage, it requires you to set max volume of your HU on a 0dB tone, then use a -5 and another -5 (or -10)dB tone for adjustment of your speakers and/or subs. I honestly don't know how this made sense to either D'amore or Steve Meade considering you're essentially running everything full throttle by using this method. One bad recording, one excessive voltage drop and things will go pop-pop-fizz-fizz. Tune by ear. Start with subs, then mids, then highs. Same exact method taught to me by Steve Mantz and if he's comfortable with using it, I sure as hell am as well.
