I just bought a 12" RL-s and need to begin to think about the box. I'm stuck between going sealed or ported. I think I want to do ported but if sealed is best for this driver, then so be it. If I do go ported, I'm thinking right now trying 3cuft tuned to 28hz and if I go sealed, I'm thinking around 2.5 cuft or so (going by SS recommendations). Is 28hz too low or should I go higher? Another question I can throw in here is for power. Single 3 ohm kinda sucks but can be dealt with. Right now I'm thinking about buying a JBL BPX1100.1 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10482_JBL+BPX1100.1.html) or an older Orion 2500D which I think does somewhere around 1200rms at 3ohms. Anyone have an other amp suggestions for this sub? Thanks fellas.

I love the Mag, love everything about it. I'm running it sealed now but hope to be running ported here in a few weeks. Also saving up for better quality amps as well.

Lol, yea thats me. And yes, I just had the flatwind coil upgrade on it.

I used to run a 12" SSD off a Hifonics 1206d and had zero problems with the amp. As everyone knows, its over rated and tends to over heat but I have to admit I was pretty happy with mine. I have since sold the SSD and now run a 15" Mag off the Hifonics and it still is going strong. With that said, if I had the money back when I bought the amp, I would have chosen a different amp with better quality for the SSD. The ZX750.1 would be a nice choice for the SSD. So would the Sundown 1000D and another 40 other amps lol. Nice choice in the SSD, I liked mine a lot. I had mine in a 2.1cuft box tuned to 33hz and loved it. 33hz seems to be a favorite tuning for a lot of Fi users I know.

Good luck everyone. Quick question, what time is the drawing tomorrow you think? How long will the winner have to contact you cause if for some miracle I actually do win, I will be out of town until Saturday. Good contest IA, thanks for the chance.

I will be running a 15" SI Mag in a 3.5cuft box tuned to 30hz and should be running a set of Hybrid Audio Technology Clarus C61-2 components. I'm trying to achieve a nice SQ oriented set-up that can still deliver a nice little kick. I have it narrowed to either: The Audison LRX 1.400 for the Mag and the Audison LRX 2.250 for the components. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=4224 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=4287 Or The Focal FP1.800 for the Mag and the Focal FP2.150 for the components. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=4481 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=4480 Can anyone help me decide which direction I should go? I tried to do some research myself through Google and came up with some threads comparing these brands but it seemed almost like it was a split. Any help will be appreciated.

Audison Or Focal
Yanks Fan replied to Yanks Fan's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
This is true. Guess I have some thinking to do then. I actually meant to ask how I got the discounted price lol. Thanks Denim. BTW Denim, a few people on ecoustics (don't laugh guys lol) and I are trying to get a little meet together on July 26th either in PA or in Northern VA. If your interested, I can keep you updated. -
Audison Or Focal

Alright, fair enough guys. Thanks for the info. Looks like the way to go is Audison or to choose a cheaper route like Sundown. The Sundown 1000D shows up at $400 in the shop (I know it can be cheaper). And I'm pretty sure Sundown doesn't offer an amp that does about 150rms x 2 at 4 ohms do they? -
Audison Or Focal

Care to explain more? I already have the Mag installed and I love it so I am keeping it. I debated saving more and doing a system of about 3krms but I don't want to do electrical upgrades. So thats why I'm sticking to around 1krms. I'll do some more research on the Focal amps as well on Google. -
I was hoping this would keep falling so I would have a better chance lol.

I may have missed it and if I did then sorry. But does the 1200d have a rough date of when it will be sold to the public? Same question on the 250.2? Sorry if I missed it.

I'm an hour north of you. Ashame I just sold my Fi SSD or else I would have drove down there and let you hear it. I got a SI Mag if you were interested in hearing.

Thanks fellas

Sure you have thought about these already but if for some reason you haven't, Mario Party 8 and Mario Kart. Classic N64 games that got even better for Wii.

Thanks Nick Feedback email just sent

I was hoping someone could give me thoughts on going from a 15" Mag in a 3cuft sealed box to a 12" Arc Audio Flatline in a 2cuft portet box tuned to 32hz. I'm happy with the Mag's output and sq but I think I want a little more output now. Does the Flatline keep the same sq as the Mag does? How is the output of the Flatline compared to the Mag? Are the lows of the Flatline as good as the Mags? Thanks
-
Thats a fair point. I guess I'm just looking for a "miracle" sub with the sq of the Mag and greater output (not that the Mag doesn't have enough output, just after awhile, you want more). Guess I'll have to try out the Mag in a ported box and see what happens then.

Ecoustics has been notified lol. Looking forward to the pics Steve. How does it feel to know that the entire internet car audio world will be on your site at some point or another tonight? lol

Don't mean to nit pick, but on the DP's info page, it lists Driver size and MRSP at the top and bottom of the chart. Just a heads up to you guys. Great looking site though.

Just got my 15" Mag metered. It did a 135.0 at 41hz. It is in a 3.0cuft sealed box receiving 900-1krms maybe. Amp was a Hifonics 1206d which I'm getting rid of soon.

2005 Scion TC SI Mag 15 Ported
Yanks Fan replied to Woodlawn Cabinetry's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Lol I didn't know you posted this over here Phil. That box was designed for my Mag by Phil. We met up at a small audio meet up in PA last weekend and spent about 30-45 minutes trying to get ideas to get a 3.5cuft box in the back of the Scion. Phil came up with the idea of shooting the ports over the back seat and firing the sub up. We have also talked about adding a removable piece of MDF over the sub to act as a loading board and to hide the sub. We'll test it out on a TL to see if it hinders output and if it does, by how much. I'm real excited to try this box out and it should yield some good results. Getting the money together now so hopefully by about June, I'll have this box in the back of my Scion. I'm sure Phil will take some pics of the build of the box when I pay him and he begins. And I will be sure to take pics when I have this box in my car. Once again Phil, it was a pleasure meeting you and I look forward to this box. -
Today I picked up my 15" MAG and found it to be in excellent condition. Bought it off CA for $200!! Anyway for the next couple weeks I'll put it in a sealed box until I get the chance to talk to Woodlawn Cabnitry (Phil Salisbury) in person about fitting a ported box in my trunk. SI's site suggests 2.3-3 cuft sealed. I couldn't find driver displacement on SI's site so I'm guessing its around .19 (using Fi Q's displacement, fair assumption?). For those who have used their Mag in a sealed box, I was wondering what size the enclosure was, how the results were and if you would suggest it being a little bigger or smaller. Right now I'm thinking of 2.5cuft after driver displacement. Or about 2.7 before driver displacement. Also, for the ported box. I've had some people tell me 4cuft to 30 hz. The previous owner told me he had it in a 3.5cuft to 30hz and he said it was perfect. And I've had people telling me go with 3.8 to 30 hz. Its a common theme to do 30hz and I've been set on that and will be set on that. Anyone used a 15" MAG in any of those boxes and how'd you like it and would you make it bigger or smaller? If you don't have experience, then give me your best answer. SI suggests 3.5 to 30hz for the record. Thanks guys. - Yanks Fan

Just realized I never came back after I installed the Mag. Installed it about 2 weeks ago and this sub has exceeded every expectation I had for it. Just wanted to say thanks Nick for building this great sub. By the way, I ended up putting it in a 2.95cuft sealed box after driver displacement. Building a ported box for it this summer sometime. Again, Nick thanks bud for putting up with all of my PMs lol.

Hey Wesley. It will be about a 2 hour drive for me and I am 30 minutes south of DC. Where in VA are you?
