my pioneer flip out had all of the preouts go out. I am looking for a nice headunit in the 300 dollar range. video is not necessary, but would be nice. I have a couple choices. I really like the eclipse cd-5000. I will not buy another pioneer. my other choice is a jvc kd-avx11 with a clarion eq to bump the preouts to 7volts. what would you guys do? I need higher voltage preouts and something that will sound good and last. I am going more for spl.

help me decide.

Because i want to go active in the near future and my new found hatred for pioneer i ordered a clarion dxz785usb had all the features i wanted and more. Hopefully it sounds as good as it looks. It also had three pair 6 volt outs which was appealing. -

That was one of the units i was loking at. i only use my ipod anyway. I need the higher voltage pre-outs because i have a power acoustik a3000db that i am trying to squeeze somewhere near the rated power out of until i can afford something better. I am considering going active in the future also. it would be nice to have the crossover integrated, but if theres nothing around this price that has it, thats cool. I can still do a trunk mount 3 way x-over later right? from what i understand the eclipse cd-3200 (newer model) has a built in 3 way x-over and 5 volt preouts and the alpine has an adjustable high pass and 2 volt pre-outs. -
Well im looking for a new sub(s) and the two im looking at right now are a 12" BTL dual2 off 2300 watts or two Fi Q's off 1100 a piece i have around 3.5 cubes that i can still be comfortable in the truck I can go up to 6, but im trying to get something smaller so i have room i have around $400 to play with, I am basically wondering what would be my best alternative. I am fairly used to my tc-3000 in 3.5 cubes off 1000 watts, how would both of those compare in SQ and output? I hear really mixed things about the BTL how bad is the SQ? I would get the HiXM coil and third mag, possibly cooling. This is in an ex cab s10 with a pretty stout electrical (3 batts four runs of 2 gauge and 200 amp alt), and the amp is a Power Acoustik a3000db Thanks for any responses

Hey theres nothing wrong with that IPOD adapter. its an easy mistake on those pioneer headunits. Switch out the ends of that funky cable that goes to the back of the HU and connects to the ipod box. I had the same thing happen to me. If it makes sense you want the end thats connected to the ipod box on the back of the HU and the end connected to the back of the HU on the ipod box.

Does anybody have any experience with this driver? Does it sound decent? They are inexpensive and are supposed to be fairly nice drivers i was looking at pickin up two 10" and tossin each 1100w How would they stack up to two fi BL 10"?

thinking about going active

Couldnt he get an external active crossover cheaper than buying a new HU? -
Are Infinity amps any good for reasonable SQ?
thacarter546 replied to sqguy's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Theyre okay id much rather have the jbl gto series though and they are around the same price -
What is the width of the magnet+terminal on the MLI-65??
thacarter546 replied to XaznKewLguyX's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Why not take a hole saw to it? Make it fit -
Hook your rcas into the inputs like any other amp. On the 1000d the two speaker terminals are paralleled internally it doesnt matter which you use. Set the crossover on the 100.4 to hp and set it around 80hz or so set the low pass on the 1000d to 80 hz and the subsonic filter to one octave below your tuning frequency (around 5-10 hz lower) Leave subsonic and bass boost at 0

I still think it could be the rca outputs that have a bad ground. Is it a pioneer HU?

I'd love to hear what you think i keep hearing people say they sound hollow which kinda bugs me im trying to decide between two 10" q's or bl's or a mach 5 spl12 these just happen to be in my price range

Shallow Mount Subs for wedge truck enclosure?
thacarter546 replied to phaze23lbc's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
The new kicker ones are supposed to be pretty good and if you can afford 400 for a driver and dont mind a wait the new mags are gonna be shallow if i remember right -
Lol its a trade off you have to do what you like best if you do do ported your looking at 4-5 cubes tuned to 28-30 should sound real nice. With 3000 watts and two 12's your gonna overpower your frontstage no matter what you do its gonna be up to you to use an eq or set you gain appropriately to balance it out. If you do sealed youl be just fine too. http://www.teamtoxicbass.com/literature/wr...orted/index.htm http://www.teamtoxicbass.com/literature/wr...ratio/index.htm Interesting reads i think theyd be worth your time (pretty short)
-
Like said above not too many people have experience with these subs. Im not a big fan of sealed boxes i think youd be much happier with a ported box tuned low 28-32hz But if you got the 12"s 3 cubes should be fine.
-
parallel out of phase means you wire the two subs in parallel except you switch the positive and negative around on ONE of the subs. Check the ground plane on your HU too is it a pioneer HU? might wanna try grounding the rcas to do this stick a pice of wire so that it gets piched between the outside casing of your rcas then ground it to the HU
-
basically the advantage to having a seperation in the boxes is if one blows the ither one is in the same box. If they share airspace then if one blows its in double the size box ad its more likely to bottom out. I would just make them in the same airspace. 3.0 cubes should be nice.
-
Do the 12's do alright in smaller ported boxes 2.0 cubes or so?

Just out of curiosity has anyone ever used a harrison labs amplifier and are they capable of doing music? They actually look pretty cool and are tiny for the power they claim. After seeing the drag queen most everybody says all the hlab amps are spl burps only. Just curious not really interested in buying one.

That would be a nice touch if there was something showing the shipping is free. I kept trying to get SSA to add the shipping on so i could get a total price to make a comparison. Everything i hear about this driver is good. I will be ordering one when as soon as i get enough money saved. Are they in stock right now? And is it better to order through ssa or through the mach 5 site or does it matter?

thacarter546 replied to dropkick13's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Welding wire is great most actually has two layers of jacket. I use forney welding wire and its all copper. Its really flexible too. -
Harrison Labs amps
thacarter546 replied to thacarter546's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
so are they even good for pure spl applications? -
I'm not the thread starter I was simply offering my input. I dont memorize sub specs and didnt look up the mounting depth but i do remember the q and icon as being hefty drivers with a big butt

I would go with the alpine and jl combo as well. I am actually quite fond of the w6, one of my friends had 6 12" w6's in the back of a blazer ran off of a kicker 2500.1 with all pheonix gold components and it did real nice. It wasnt amazing or anything but sounded nice and got some decent flex. The icons would do nice too but they are deep as well. Have you looked into the SI mags yet? Those are nice as well. The mmats dealerships areound here praise them a ton and always sell them at FULL retail. I tried to work with a local shop, but they were at least 2-3 times the internet prices and they tried to steer me towards kicker comps at full retail right before i walked out. MMats is not a company im terribly impressed with. The l7s arent bad, just nothing special. I try not to support the local businesses out here because they dont support the hobby.
