Yeh lol. Well, I get anything at cost...I'm going to tint my entire explorer 20% for 50 bucks.

I am designing a new box for my pair of rl-p 15s, looking at this so far 6 Cubes NET 110in^2 Port Area 33hz tuning Currently my box is tuned around 36 I beleive, 5.5 cubes NET and 70in^2 port area. I am looking for overall more output 30 - 50hz. Is this too much port area? I don't think so... Should I go down to 5.5 again, but get tuning to 32hz and ~90in^2 port area?? 5.5 NET 70in^2 @ 36hz currently. Wanting more from 30 - 50hz WHAT TO DO...blah ??

That test was on low power IIRC. The RL-p is a small box woofer. My point was, 4 cubes per RL-p WOULD get boomy. Brahmas are made for that size enclosure, RL-p are not.
-
I don't have Brahma's :-D. Whole different beast.
-
Yall all agree the added volume would be a good thing not a bad thing? I was scared they'd go boomy!!

WOOOOOOHOOOOO!!! My fun with the Rl-s ;)

Where abouts was it peaking? You said the low end was ridiculous, is that where it was peaking? I would expect a 45ish hz peak. Trying to nail out how these respond to tunings/volumes so I can do something ideal when I get the woofer. -
Current 5.5 @ 35.25 w/ 70 Concept 5.5 @ 33 w/ 90 I just want to smooth out the response a bit and overall get louder. I have a visible bit of flex on the baffle. The new box will use a 1.5" thick baffle. The old box has a couple small leaks. The new box will be AIR TIGHT. I am thinking this will yeild me a dB or two. Something noticeable (I have enough ear time to notice something that small). Also some more SQ with the lower tuning and without the flex and leak. I am weary of raising volume. For the fear of losing 50 - 65hz. Which is generally where I cross my woofers at (65hz). Wood, Screws, and Liquid Nails is going to cost me 50 bucks so...this needs to give me my desired result. Anyone doubt it will? I am open for suggestions -- nothing risky though.

Would probably be nice in 4.5 and a little lower tuning huh? *can't wait to hear it* EDIT - and you are telling my this 12 was almost as loud as a ported xxx 18? Did you noticee a nastyyy peak with that tuning? Or did it do pretty well? -
I'll have the RL-s in hand towards the end of the first week in December, or sometime into the second week. I am actively searching out someone in the Miami area that has around 2k RMS on tap at 4 ohm -- should be able to find someone Now, down to business. Does anyone have some requests as to what boxes I should use? Right now I am planning the following... 4 Cubes Sealed 3 Cubes Sealed 2 Cubes Sealed 3.5 Cubes Ported, 20hz, 50in^2 Port Area 3.5 Cubes Ported, 25hz, 50in^2 Port Area 3.5 Cubes Ported, 30hz, 50in^2 Port Area I was sticking with 3.5 Cubes Ported b/c I just can't imagine anything larger for just a 12" driver. Thoughts, requests, etc? If I can get my hands on some home audio power...I may do some testing there.

My RL-ps are probably pulling around a 141 on music (143ish if I tone burp). I listen to it daily...at that level, for entire songs. My left ear hurts if I put much pressure on it inwards, and it aches sometimes after getting out of the car. RL-p = teh deaf

Anyone ever checked to see how warm the cone gets?
cougarballa2k5 replied to noah katz's topic in SoundSplinter
Mine used to get hot, then I set the gains to not clip...no more hot. Just as loud though...clipping doesn't benefit much in my install. -
I don't have anything to measure with :-\. All I will have is a comparison to two RL-p 15s :-p.
-
Changed my mind on the ported boxes.. 4.5 Cubes NET @ 25hz w/ 40in^2 Port Area 3 Cubes NET @ 31hz w/ 40in^2 Port Area

I plan to make all your wishes come true when I get the RL-s in hand. Time to stop fooling around . -
Looking for someone with 1200+ RMS @ 4 ohm willing to spare a day and test the SoundSplinter RL-s with me.
-
I want four D2s and two 20.1s !!!
-
Someone put some power on this thing!!!!! I should have a solid 1200-1500 on it when it gets to me :-D.
-
I assume prices will be the same through you or through Acoustic-Visions??
-
If it sounds better, gets just as loud...how is it not in the same league? :-p
-
So this is all running through the factory head unit & equalization right? I did that in my explorer and was like damn...this is chitty. Put my cd player in, no more factory equalization, HELLO LOUD. If you are hitting those #s with the factory hold-back...I can see 140s legal easy.
-
Well, I will have a Visonik V900HC which does a rated 750x2 @ 4 Ohms. So I am hoping for a solid 1200 - 1500 RMS @ 3.5 nominal. December is a ways off, so assuming I will have the time to build enclosures I would like to have.... 3 NET @ 33hz 5 NET @ 30hz 2.5 Sealed - No Polyfill 3 Sealed - No Polyfill 3.5 Sealed - No Polyfill Only setups I would be interested in running - so these I will test!!

Am I dreaming, or is that a new mag, with a claw basket, color matched to the vehicle?

Those volumes definately look highly HT oriented. Careful those specs may ward off some less knowldegable people. They may think they need 9 cubic foot @ 16hz for an in car application. I don't see why around 4 NET wouldn't work great tuned to 30 for in car use. I say, we need lots of testing then some solid box recommendations. I think that has always been a falling point of many manufacturer's. Box recommendations should be tried and true, for multiple applications.
