This may be one of my favorite installs I've seen in a while! Great work to say the very least. I love the old school RF. I just love the look of those amps! Just frigging sweet!
-
Wow this thread sure has taken off. Let us know how these stack up to the Kodas. If they perform or outperform the Kodas, these would be one hell of a deal. The Kodas are one of the better sound component speakers I've heard.
-
Keep this log updated then. I always enjoy seeing your work. You said that you disassembled the OPTs correct? Do you have any pictures of that? I still have yet to see how they wind everything inside of a transformer.
-
Beastly!
-
Sounds like you went through a bunch of trouble with those transformers. Are you just waiting on parts to do all the wiring?
-
Nice Amp Mike. Are these the transformers you were worried about at one point? One had been drilled into? Either way I figured you have everything working in tip top shape.
-
still? you did once? Lol I saw that one last night. Good contribution.

Great install. I have yet to hear an RL-i8 and that makes me kind of sad. lol But the TC Sounds sub should be good stuff. I had a TC-1000 and I think it is pretty similar to what you have. It was a great sub. Keep updates on how everything else turns out.

Very Nice looking vehicle. I love G35s and yours is especially nice. Any audio equipment in at this time?
-
Low 30s I would guess. That should give you the low end you want. What vehicle is this going in?

I did the exact same thing with my 97 Town Car as far as removing the back speakers go. Then I sealed up the back dash except the 6x9 holes with sound deadener. Worked great for me. I'd assume it would work just as well with the Mercury since they are pretty similar cars.
-
Gotta love the Town Cars...or Just Lincoln in general. Nice build!

I like the Carbon Fiber dust cap a lot. Reminds me of the old AA subs and I always love the cosmetics of those. But I also like th previous idea with the X or model behind the SSA logo. -
What size sigmas did you use Jim? These speakers are becoming more and more appealing for a project. And I think I may have sold off some of the stuff out of my car! But 8watts? I have my 14watt PP heathkit. I guess if I do this, I'll just have to take it easy on the volume knob.

What kind of fudge ups did you end up with? I am seriously considering scrapping my HT sub project to do some of these. What kind of power would be good to run these? Are the BIBs fairly fairly efficient?
-
That's a big goddamn TV! But for the price, hard to beat.
-
I was looking the the BIB designs and they are pretty simple. The only thing that is a little daunting is the stuffing for the best possible FR. Anyone messed around with these enough to get a good idea on how to stuff the enclosures properly?
-
The BIB enclosures look much easier to design and build. But I guess the Frugal horn designs are driver specific designs. Either route would probably be a win win situation.
-
When my buddy was looking at TVs, the sale person told him that DLPs have the tendency to have glare from side angles where a LCD would not. Also I think that with DLPs, when the bulbs go bad, they can be replaced for a couple hundred bucks. Not sure how accurate this is(some one please correct me if I am misinforming), but it is what I remember.

Great looking sub. When will everything be finalized with the design and get some specs? -
I love my Brahma. But I have heard nothing but good about those Mags.
-
People like that should be banned from touhing anything! Sounds like one of the guys at the local shop. lol

The JL Audio amps are great to say the least, but very spendy IMHO. IF you can justify spending that much on amps, go for it. They won't disappoint, but for the power you need to run the Qs, there are definitely other options for a fraction of the cost.
