06' XXX 18" Can anything beat it?
todd.brust replied to kryptonitewhite's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
It's not out yet, but the Exodus Audio Sicko-X is suppose to have an obscene 55mm Xmax and I think it is suppose to come in an 18". Heres a link. http://audiojunkies.com/blog/1155/exodus-a...th-the-sickness It's the same principal as the Adire Parthenon. Heres a link talking about the Parthenon. http://audiojunkies.com/blog/1201/adire-au...imate-subwoofer -
thanks Scott. I got an answer a little bit ago and it made complete sense. I wasn't sure if they were using reverse polarity AC or something weird like that. I hope I can get a chance to hear a pair someday.

Well we had our Focal rep come into the shop today, and he was telling me an another co worker about all the new Focal stuff. I happened to ask him about the Focal Grande Utopia Em and he told me that they are the best sounding speakers he has ever heard. With the 180K pricetag for a pair, I would hope they sound that good. But here's my question, the subwoofer uses some new technology where it doesn't use a permanent magnet at all, but instead uses a huge winding of wire as a magnet. What advantages does this yield? I though I heard someone say something about controlling the force of the motor also. I just want someone to simplify the function of this.

Heres a link to the Grande Utopia Em Site. IT gives a very general non descriptive explaination of how it works. http://www.grande-utopia-em.com/

Do you mean a direct short?

Thinking of getting a HDTV
todd.brust replied to Juslivin's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
The Bravias are pretty pricey to say the least. I am thinking of getting a Panasonic PZ800 series TV. 46 or 50 inches. I get a great price at work so it's just a though right now. -

Those are also really nice sets. The 850 series has a phenomenal picture. I think that is the model....And it's tiny thin. The best sets I have seen by far are Pioneer Plasmas (Hands down the best sets ever), Panasonic Plasmas, and Sony LCDs(those are the better we sell at the store i work at), but I would very much like to see some of the newer Sony Bravias. -

The Aquos TVS are great. I'd look at that or Panasonic, One of the most if not the most reliable flat panels out. -
Mr. Sunshine on my Goddamn Shoulder, John Denver! Welcome

A twisted pair is usually enough shielding. Anything more is just a marketing gimmick.

my vises are sweet tea. bread baked lays, fried chicken ice cream weed budlight 2 weekends a month and sleep! I feel your pain on all of these, except add deep fried Pizza rolls and more beer, full flavored dark beers. I am in the process of trying to better my health. As a new years resolution, I decided to give up smoking a pack of Camel Lights a day. I quit cold turkey and have not had a smoke since the new year began. Beginning Feb. 1st, I am going to limit myself to eating out once a week(I usually stop once a day at a fast food place going between school and jobs and I work at a pizza place). I noticed I started gaining weight when I switched jobs and ceased walking all day long so to try and help, I am going to start biking or some cardio. I know soda and anything that contains corn syrup doesn't help either. I just want to wish ya luck. I think a bunch of us here and everyone are on the same boat as you.

All The old AA stuff looked the same. A shot of the motor would be sweet. I think the new Havoc is a completely different monster, but both are still great speakers. I miagine that the t/s parameters will be different.

That amp has some nice number... I'll try to see what's up with that and everything at that store. He had thousands of Vinyls there too. It'll be a shame to see a place like that go.

Young Jeezy Hypnotized. One of the only rap song I like to hear.

He had lots of test equipment. That would be something useful for me. As far as I know, the Citation II is still sitting on top of his piano in the shop. That thing is a beast of an amp. Lots of Iron in that. He had all oft he original literature with it. He showed it all to me. He even had all the newsletters that got sent to citation owners. Very cool stuff. I want some tube amps to run my Dahlquists. maybe 60 watts per side. Either a set of monoblocks or a 2 channel. I have been on the lookout for a while but everything is out of my range(I'm still broke)

Nice! Unfortunately, the guy who owned the local Hi-Fi passed away a couple weeks ago. I may end up picking up a few things before the fmaily closes shop. He has some nice project pieces, so I might be starting a rebuild soon! I wish I could get his HK Citation 2 he had sitting around. That thing was a beast of an amplifier.

I vote 01. That extra space with in the back seats will help and like you said, you have the option of a dual alt set up.

They run great. My buddy had TC with around 400K and the thing ran like a champ up until the day he got rid of it. Still runs to this day as far as i know.

The W7 can lick my nuts. I'd love to see your reaction when you hear the one I heard... This whole "lets bash JL because all the cool kids are doing it" routine is getting really old really fast. I agree. JL Audio is all very good quality product. There is a lot more R&D that go into a JL product than most other car audio company. JL didn't make a name for themselves by selling overly expensive speakers, they made a name for themselves by making some of the best speakers on the market. I work with JL stuff all the time and I assure you it is all top of the line stuff with top of the line customer service.

I found some crazy chit at work today. I was looking at pictures of installs that my shop used to do and all I can say is wow. They used to do some crazy installs. I was looking at their old SPL car. Completely ridiculous. 48 10" Alumapro subs and 24 DEI 1100Ds In a Suzuki Amigo. No lie. They were put in a W pattern. Almost like 2 clamshells aligned vertically next to each other. Sealed. They did 174.some odd dB in the 90s sometime I think. I was just blown away by it. I may try to scan a picture or two.

The Hifonics will work fine. To best give an answer, your goals would help. Are you just going for loud, low, etc.? Personally, the Q sounds good sealed or ported. It will handle more power sealed but a ported would be louder in most if not all situations. What kind of vehicle will this be going into? How much room are you willing to spare will help too.
-
They are both great drivers...hands down. The w6v2 is a low distortion sub that works extremely well in small enclosures. The w6 is one of the better sounding subs in my personal experience. Just a great speaker for sealed alignments. The Q in most situations will give you more output however and sound really good too. Either way, I would consider it a win-win situation. Both are awesome sounding subs.

Infinite Baffle 2004 Cadillac Deville

Good Luck with this, I'd be very interested to see this build progress. But seriously good luck, Caddy's have been the biggest pain to work on so far . Just my experience though.
