Will a Mod please Edit. I meant August 29th! -
I will recommend the w6s all day long. For the space issue and because they just sound very good. Now just find a 1 ohm stable amp and some fronts an you should be good. A sundown would be a good choice for an amp, however there are many other brands out there to look at. As for highs, there are just as many options. It all depends on budget and how much work you want to do. Coax speakers are easy because they drop in with little or no modification to the doors and vehicle. Components can be a little more tricky. You might have to cut door panels or make tweeter pods, however in a newer vehicle, there may be factory tweeter locations. Like isaid just depends. As for brands, I do a lot of work with Alpine, JL Audio, kenwood, and Focal at the shop I work at. If you want cheap, Alpine Type S is great bang for your buck. Kenwoods are a little cheaper but lack the performance of the Alpines. If you want to go with a little higher end speaker, JL or Focal will do well. I run JL XR comps in my current vehicle and love them! I have dealt with almost the almost the entire Focal line first hand and they are top notch quality speakers. In the end you decide, but good luck with the build. Hope this helps out a bit.

Very nice build! Top Quality Craftsmanship. 8s are the way to go when thats all the install allows. I'd have an array of 8" subs if my car wasn't so pucking huge!

Get some plactic dash pry tools and start gently pulling around the trim. See if you can pry it enough to look into the crack and see if they are clips or screws. Sometimes manufacterers like to hide screws, like in air vents and behind pockets that are clipped in. Just be careful and take your time. Its a beemer, and they are always a little tricky to take apart.

The problem with marine subwoofers, is that most brands cut off size at 10". I looked into some brands, and I remembered that AlumaPro manufactures marine speakers. I came across the Alumapro Alchemy H2O 12" subwoofer. It has about 90dB efficiency. I have worked with Alumapro first hand, many times at my job and in my own vehicle, and they are top quality speakers. I have never heard their marine speakers but if they are anything like their traditional subwoofers, they would be great for any marine application. Hope this helps a bit.

I'm not sure if I like it yet. Mostly just because I'm not used to it. It definietly has some very cool features however.

Welding cable
todd.brust replied to ncacoates's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
welding cable is the way to go. It's cheap and works just as well as any other power cabling. Wire is wire. -
Yessir, Full detail with Pin Diagrams. Everything check out fine with the exception of the +16V output going to the OEM radio. Who ever wired the radio before my buddy bought it had the +12V and the ACC connected to the 16V output on the dash. So I am guessing that it's possible that the Radio somehow shorted out that output. Thats the only conclusion I could come up with. I completely rewired the power to the the cluster and it continues to blow fuses so it has to be something internal. The only 4 wired I didn't test was a security wire, airbag wire and 2 data wires. I am doubtful that any of those are at fault. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Todd

My buddy recently bought a 94 Cadillac Seville, and the radio wiring was so ghetto rigged so he went to rewire everything. While wiring, something shorted and now his instrument cluster will not work at all. We pulled the dash apart and tested the power leads and the would get power right before the fuse blew and all the accessories worked fine without issues. So we figured theres a short in the factory wiring. We bypassed all the factory wiring and and gave it constant power right off the ignition and fused it the same as the factory fuse size. Still blowin fuses. The problems arose when messing with the factory radio. The radio would cut out at medium volumes. We took a look at a very detailed manual for the car and found that there were 2 wired that came from the IPC to the Radio. There was a 16 volt output from the IPC to the radio, and a dimmer control. The dimmer control worked fine but the 16V output to the radio did not meter anything at the plug or behind the radio, so I disconected it from the wiring hoping that there may be issues in there. Still blew fuses. I think the aftermarket radio may be been wired to that 16V output for acc or power. We then proceded to check about every input and output and everything checks out fine. The only wires I did not tap were the Airbag wires, security, and 2 data wires. Everything checked out fine. Do you guys think the short might exist inside the IPC, like maybe something shorted inside to do with the 16V output? Thats about all I am concluding. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Any questions about what I said can be answered too. Thanks Guys.

Alumapro 15 Farad Cap
todd.brust replied to ESW's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I hate to be the guy to say this, but caps aren't going to help you too much. I am very familiar with Alumapro, seeing that they are carried at the shop I work for. Caps aren't 100% useless, people just suggest them to be used in wrong applications. You don't use a cap for dimming lights, the only thing a cap will do is maintain a more consistent voltage at all times. I have a 5 farad in my car, honestly I don't need it and honestly I now wish i would have purchased a battery You should be fine using it without the relay and solenoid. I have used mine like that for years. Just on the initial hookup, use maybe a 10 ohm high wattage resistor to initially charge the cap. If you hook it up without trickling the charge, that surge could warp the plates inside the cap. You should be fine. Mine never even came with the relays and I bought mine new. -
I had one where my wifey ran off without explanation, and wouldn't tell me where she moved to, and I went broke and life sucked. Really bad dreams for me recently. Are you guys eating before going to bed? I always just have really vivid dreams. I have them almost every night, and have for as long as I can remember. I like sleeping because it's kind of like a second, weird, alternative reality. Also, usually about once a month I'll get dreams that don't end like I want, so I'll consciously rewind my dream and try a different thing. This often happens when I'm trying to stop a bank robbery or something like that. I'll try stopping them one way, get shot, rewind the dream to try something else, get shot, rewind to try something else, etc. Sometimes I do this more than 6-7 times. Those are fun. Lol wtf. I can never remember dreamsd all that well, rewinding dreams? That does sound fun.

First time with a real chance to go on the internet. Charter is so pucking backed up, that I have to wait another week until we get internet at the new apartment! Blackberrys aren't exactly the best browsers

Did it have DEI amps an was black? It was all DEI amplifiers, 12 1100ds IIRC. I don't know if it was black, I just some some old pictures of itat work and some of the guys who worked there back then were telling me how crazy loud it was. It was built by Audio Designs in MN.

The local shop I work for had a SPL vehicle back in the 90s, a Suzuki Amigo with 48 10" Alumapro Subs in a W configuration. That's pucking nuts if you ask me. It was capable of mid 170s!

All 3 of them 3 within 100 ft of my apartment! Theres probably 10 to 15 within a few blocks, which is good enough selection for me. I was just giving you hell. Which ones are you near? Oh yeah I know. I am almost right above Mulligans, and Eds and the Eagles are within 100 FT. I usually end up at Schydes, McCunes, or Draught Haus for the most part though. 3 blocks away. All the 3 previous mentions are newer bars, so they had different names a couple years ago. Good times though. I love being able to leave a bar and walk for 5 minutes and be in my bed. with a friend fixed On a good night, yes.
