what are your guys top picks for covering your boxes?? I've seen a lot of people using like...truck liner spray. Is this easy to do? or what are your tricks for carpeting a box? Favorite places to buy the carpet? i'm mainly more itnerested in the truck liner idea. I like the idea that it gives, but i've only seen the more professional areas do it. How hard is it for an average box builder?

you got PM about RF

yea well i've seen the spray cans at like fleet farm and around but I just wasn't sure how they'd turn out I guess maybe its time to pick up a can and find an old box i dont really use much and see just how they turn out!

damn dude id say buy that even if you dont use it and resell it thats a crazy deal and even if you bought it to just make some money it wouldnt be the end of the world I personally also like the W6's, but if you're going for an "actual" sq based system. Then you might be better off getting a different, cheaper subwoofer because the output that thing can do will turn your car into a crazy sounding bass machine. Id say buy it either way and keep it if its what you want or sell it and make some money if you want something else

So i've been looking at upgrading head units because I am getting some new components and I have an alpine now and use it all the time with my iPod. I currently have a 9881. So I am thinking of sticking with the Alpine line-up and I was going to go with the 9887 for sure, but now I've seen the 9884 and it seems to have a lot of awesome features. Whats the big differences here? My currents needs I guess are: Imprint technology good equalizer( im not sure if parametric or graphic is better for me. But either would be better then 9881's) good iPod control Thats pretty much it I guess... I have a pair of 6.5 Koda components coming in soon and am hoping to make them sound even better by upgrading my head unit to add some more functionality. I'm getting pretty set on this 9884, but is there somethign im missing??? what makes the 9887 100 dollars better?

Alpine 9884 vs 9887

ahh...active...of course so I guess the big decision is if I want to do that i've heard good things about the imprint the main reason I was looking at it is because the shop in my town has the mic and everything so I wouldn't have to worry about buying it it would just be a nice "bonus"...unless of course it is more of a gimic like you said -
man...i saw passive radiator and it always intrigues me so I had to look. I dont know to much about them, but I run a pair of 15"...maybe 2100 gram also, I dont really remember in my home theatre and the low end and clarity is amazing. I figured though I would also point out a good company to look at (and where I got my PR's from). Acoustic Elegance (used to be known as stryke) is back up and running after they were down for awhle and I love their PR's. I got mine before they switched over to their new line up so I dont know if they're the same or different, but mine are simple and work perfect. I got mine at an amazing price of 45 dollars a piece to. www.aespeakers.com is the website if you wanted to check that out. I believe they are based out of Greenbay

hey guys. Trying to find a new set-up here (sub set-up) and am looking around at my sub options! Currently I am running an 18" BL in a 5.5ish box @ 35Hz I think. It is pretty dang loud...but I am starting to go away from SPL based to subs that are able to reproduce the sounds a bit better. I have recently acquired a pair of Adire Koda 6.5 components and am hoping to blend things. The BL would pretty much destroy any midbass that would be output with them and I really wanna do a proper(ish..bear with me guys haha) set-up of an actual "sub" crossed over at 60Hz or so and then hear some real midbass. Here were the subs that I was looking between. Currently I have a JBL amp that puts out between 1200-1300 RMS @ 1 or 2 ohms. Its the older BP series. Some of the subs I'm looking at that definitely don't need this much power, so I will either have that as max power (more then enough really), or I can downgrade if I need to. But for my comparions, just assume that I would be powering all of the subs at their "optimal" or above optimal RMS ratings. I'm worry about the amp later. I also have upto 5.5 cubes to work with, which is way more then enough for these so the boxes would all be built to the recommended/optimum box sizes as well. Here are my choices! lemme know what you'd pick From Acoustic Visions: Exodus Audio Tempest-X From SSA: A 15" D1 Icon From Ascendant Audio: A 15" Havoc From Sound Splinter: A 15" RLP I had also looked at the 10" Rl-i, but I had guessed that the RLP had similiar sounding but with a bit more SPL on it, and seeing as space wasn't an option, I had counted it out. But let me know if you think I was incorrect in doing that! Hopefully you guys can help me out!

I'd say your ideas about them are a bit confused. First off...the hitting deep and hitting hard thing are somewhat subjective and more so based on the type of box you will be building with them. I currently own a BL and I have a friend with a Q and like bass4life said, they really arent as similiar as maybe you've been led to believe. The BL will hit and is definetely louder then the Q assuming the power and space requirements are met. But the Q has a more...well it just sounds better lol I think what you need to figure out is if you want it to lean more towards the SPL side or towards the SQ side. Maybe list some subs you've had/heard that you liked and we can get an idea of what direction you want to go. also, not sure if u have a system currently, but maybe u can just imagine. About is how loud will you be driving around with the sub? If your planning on bumping this thing at max volume all time, just say you're goin for some crazy SPL and get that BL. haha But if you plan on keeping it turned down for msot part and then when u want some bump u know u can turn it up, I'd say the Q will fit you just fine. hopefully this helped you!!

lol darn it! Thats exactly the problem I had i've found tons of reviews on these subs but the problem is that they all say buy me! I can't make up my mind. Can someone rank them for me maybe in like terms of best sounding? and best output?

I should have also added that I had considered a 15" Fi Q but seeing as I had the BL now I had almost wanted to try out a different brand If the Q is really the best sub you think though let me know!

Alpine 9887 vs. PioneervP9800BT
hayes55987 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I did a few searches and found some similiar topics, but I couldn't find any that pertained to my situation. Currently, I have a modern alpine model, just a cheaper one. The 9881 I believe. I like the set-up of it a lot and use its iPod control almost exclusively over CD's. I am looking to upgrade though for some more options for tuning. These are the two big ones that seem to be somewhat similiar, but have a few different options. I will definetely need the head unit to have good iPod control. I have a phone that can utilize the bluetooth of the pioneer as well. What would you guys reccomend? if i chose the 9887, i would have access to an imprint mic i would be able to use. my set-up I would be using it with would be the component set of Adire Koda's running off of 75 watts off my amp. It is a 4 channel amp but I am only utilizing 2 of the channels currently. let me know your thoughts or any other head units in this range of features/price! -
Need help on a long lasting durable alternator
hayes55987 replied to cjosisek90's topic in Fi Technical
hey there! I also have a 1995 Honda Accord its nice to see someone with the same car on here. Do you have anything installed in yours? I run an 18" Fi BL in my honda. Im not sure if you have a box in there or not but if you need a good starting point for measurements I can maybe help you out. In terms of how big you can fit in there, etc I had to mount my BL horizontally to make it fit -
hey guys! just checking if you had any information about the Audioque HDC3 sub? I've seen some things on the internet about them being comparable to the BL but judging by the specs, they appear to be a bit more SPL oriented then the BL's let me know if you've heard anything good or bad! or which one you'd pick between HDC3 or BL

what do you guys know about the Audioque HDC3?
hayes55987 replied to hayes55987's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
well currently I have an 18" BL running off a JBL BP1200.1 in about a 5.8 cu ft box @ 34 Hz i'm just expanding my options for possibly some cheap competition subs. I might think about them as a daily driver...but they have such a high Fs it worries me a bit although i read that it goes down considerably with break in. they would appear to me to be even less musical then the BL haha so i was just thinking maybe like 3 10's of theirs or something on maybe 4Kw just playing around with options -

hayes55987 replied to hayes55987's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
yea i've been reading up on them over on the realm of excursion forum. they seem to be a cheaper DD style sub as someone on here stated i'd always heard they were geared more towards similiarities of a BL...just because of the power handling is a little touchier and watnot but yea...in summary it seems they're the giant magnet, power beasts, very much so SPL oriented, budget subs I'm not that big into running subs over their RMS so i'm not to worried about that. Being I dont have the cost to buy bigger amps, my electrical would clip the hell out of it and probably burn it. so I saw the RMS rating and what my amp'll put out and the BL and figured id see what you guys had to say thanks for all the input! -
what do you guys know about the Audioque HDC3?
hayes55987 replied to hayes55987's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
haha yea thats pretty much what i figured but i was just hoping for either a bigger review on them or a comparison to the Fi BL -

hayes55987 replied to hayes55987's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
yea...thats kind of the same reputation i've heard about them if you're on a budget and wanna hit some decent numbers use them but other then that ive just heard "they punch man" and "these woofers hit" lol hopefully someone can give me a bit more of a review on em! -
Id say if you're worried about keeping to a budget spend some time on learning how to make a box and buy the materials for that and then up your amp budget or just save some cash
-
i'd only have to ask why you settled on the Q? seems like you may be leaning towards more of a BL type set-up. But i'm not sure what your personal reasons were behind it. terms of box size..what are the dimensions you have to play with? Otherwise id just stick with what Fi reccomends as their sizes for the sub as for tuning....it may depend on the box size but i'd say tuning around 30Hz should fit you good for some pretty sweet lows

Hey guys! got another topic about a new set-up idea i'm looking at Current set-up is an 18" BL on a JBL BP1200.1 amplifier Currently though, i'm looking at picking up another BP1200.1 for a total of 2. this means I would start changing around my subs then. Here's where i'll give you the info and you try to help me decide Limitations: Each BP puts out 1200 watts @ 2 ohms. I'll have two of them and they're not strappable so it'll be two subs i'm looking at. I have around 5.8 cubes of space to play with. Max sub size I can fit in terms of still being able to get the box in the trunk are 2 15's. I'm leaning more towards 12's though just because then i can actually give them ample space to work with and it makes it easier for me to fit a port in with them. Current subs I was looking at were between: 2 12" BL's with P Chamfer or 2 12" ICONS. My goals for this build are I wanna say LSQ...but i know id be lying about the definition of what that means haha. I want it to be louder then my 18" BL and somewhere around the same sounding which I dont think should be that hard to match the "SQ" of a BL. forgot to add..this will be going into a trunk car and as for the orientation of the drivers, i'm not sure about front firing or rear firing. see how big the box is. let me know what your guys's opinions are on this! thanks! what are your guys's reccomendations on these? Any other ones out there?
-
yea, space is at a minimum for the BL, but 5.5-5.8 is the max I can go for space in my trunk unless i like whip everything out and start doing the whole spare tire fiberglass, etc i realize i'm choking it at the minimum. Thats why if i upgrade, i'm almost 100% positive i'm going to go with the 12's because i'll actually have some ample room for them to work with. Even if i went with 2 15's...i'd be cutting them short in terms of air space and even fitting in a port correctly. my only question with the ICONS is how loud they'll get compared to my BL right now do you guys have any predictions on this? Or are there any 2 12's out there that can run off 2 1200 rms amplifiers with around 250 a driver or so and be louder? I really dont wanna go down in output over my 18" BL right now
-
Sorry about that I have the BL in a 5.5 cu ft box firing upward tuned to 34Hz How will the ICONS sound compared to the 18" BL in terms of SPL? just give me your best guess seeing as how its an impossible question to answer if you can! It'd be: 1 18" BL in a 5.5 cu ft box @ 34Hz running off 1200 watts firing upward trunked car versus: 2 12" ICONs in a 5.8 cu ft box @ 34Hz running off 2400 watts firing front facing trunked car let me know if you guys have any possible predictions at all
