That is what I feared lol Made the thread about the dual / single voice coil's power handling but it goes as if it was a Maxxbass thread... I'd like to understand what is behind dual voice coil besides giving the user more wiring configurations. In the RL-i8, if the thermal limit is for example 700w in the S4 version, can each voice coil in the D4 version handle 700w thermally? For those who want to understand the psychoacoustic concept: http://www.wavescaraudio.com/htmls/maxxbass.htm http://www.wavescaraudio.com/htmls/carAudioJune01.htm www.maxx.com/objects/MaxxBassAESPaper.pdf (indepth with graphs)

Heh I don't know I think that it would be fun to play with something I never played with. If I don't like it, I am sure I can find someone to buy it from me. In my country, people are so into "new stuffs". Same goes for me I guess

Hi guyz, I plan to use 2 x RL-i8s in a ported box. I listen to a lot, I mean a lot of Trance & Techno. 1// Would like to know what the transient response would be from going to a 0.6 cuft net enclosure to a 0.9 cuft net or a 1.2 cuft net one. Which will have the best transient response? For sealed enclosures I know that Qtc of 0.577 will have a better transient response than Qtc of 0.707 2// Does tuning frequencies affect transient response? Tuning between 30hz to 35hz. If yes, what would you recommend. I am a weird SQ guy that listens to Trance & Techno... and sometimes I just throw some smoooooooth jazz SACD in. Thanks Kelvin

stupid question.....
subwoofery replied to jonbearsmt's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Never actually heard of them, however they are all class A/B which will draw a HUGE HUGE amount of current for 4k watts -
Lucky I didn't ask before that guy

Thanks Sean, I'm sold When the RL-i8s are out, I'll order them and try to post some pics of the finish product. Thanks a lot guyz

I get an error msg when I try to view it... Do you guyz know what that means??? WEB SITE WILL BE UPDATED SOOOOON!!!!!!!

Dual Assymetric Heat Cooling System??? or Differential Active Heat Cooling System??? or Dual Airflow Heatsink Cooling System??? Ok... it's annoying, I stop for now...

How big is your box? Could be too small --- or way to big
-
Well, I like the "HOLY COW" factor, that is why I wanted to buy the RL-i8s. I live overseas therefore cannot order stuff as I like since I have to pay for the freight and custom broker. Will wait for the RL-i8s, should be ready early December (crossing fingers). Decided to listen to you guyz, going sealed, but is 1 cuft good for my application or smaller would be better? :Sean: Wooot, that is a big box for an 8"

The helix hybrid tube amp shouldn't be that expensive. In europe, they sell for

Hi guyz, Would like to know other websites such as www.audiojunkies.com or www.enjoythemusic.com/news/ to keep up with the news. I am more interested in car audio news. I also what to know more about overseas news such as other car audio companies (Brax, Ground Zero, HSS Fidelity, etc...), not many might know that Helix (Brax sistership company) have new amplifiers (hybrid tube and SPL), subwoofers (thin line and SPL), and speakers.

heh, thanks for replying, I actually gave hope to receive a reply to my thread lol

I read somewhere, maybe on this forum that Chad was working on a new website for some Home Audio company (could be his company)

Ohh yes, ///M5 (don't know your name). You have a box that is .65 for your sub tuned to 30hz, is it the net then you add the port or the total gross volume?

Thanks for all the advices. Appreciate that. Guess I'll have to stick with the sealed box then.

Any new 2008 cars your excited about??
subwoofery replied to Aaron Clinton's topic in Automotive and Performance
Some say available 2011, some 2009, and others 2008. Well we'll see: PONTIAC TRANS AM HONDA ACCORD COUPE FORD MUSTANG AUDI S5 COUPE TOYOTA SUPRA Enjoy! -
Well, I am 24 y old, like everything that moves (subs included ) from trance to dance to techno. As previously stated, I like listening to jazz, smooth jazz, gospel. You should try to find "A Twist of Marley" a well recorded CD with different jazz artists playing some good old tunes from Mr Bob. Sorry but I don't like listening to classical music - therefore tuning to 10-15hz to hear 15hz note not needed. My system consists of: CD7000 Focal 165K3P upfront bi-amped (TN52 replaced by Brax Matrix 1.1) Milbert Bam 230ab for Mids and Tweets Audison LRx3.1k for Midbasses and Subs Planned to buy some RL-i8s (like the idea of small but deadly) Wiring: Comps - Totem Acoustics Tress // Subs - Van Den Hul The Magnum Hybrid // Comps RCAs - Van Den Hul The Integration // Subs RCA - Tara Labs RSC Sub Big 2 done - alt to battery to much hassle, alt in the middle of the engine (jap car) and alt + facing the ground. I don't plan to compete (no comps in Tahiti), just for my personnal experience, like to read and try different things. Don't go to parking lots to show off my system neither, just some occasional "CD testing for friends" PS: primary language is french - hope my post makes sense

Ohh yes, I have a hatchback, that is why I couldn't try IB installation. I know it can be done but will be so much work

Lots of maybe

I am no expert. All gains have been set by ear. No oscilloscope where I live (Tahiti, French Polynesia). Maybe I should try to get one from the states Maybe that can't be a comparison, but the cables I was using for the subs at first was one of those no brand cables (black, similar to the $10 earphone cables). Maybe an expert can explain, don't think my voltage went up, it wouldn't be possible (my guess) from switching RCAs. Maybe resistance or something like that has to do with it.

Well to be honest, when I will get a new car, I plan to buy some really nice cables from one of them: http://www.siltechcables.com/ http://www.crystalcable.com/index.php Not necessarily the top of the range. I like browsing through forums (even non english ones - german, french, japanese). They all say the same thing, those two brands of cables eats the competition for breakfast. Plan as to the use of cables: P9 combo (therefore need only 1m or 3.3ft analog to amps) highs: Picollo ($365) from Crystal Cable or SQ 28 Classic Mk2 ($400) from Siltech Cables Mids: Picollo ($365) from Crystal Cable or SQ 28 Classic Mk2 ($400) from Siltech Cables Lows: The integration ($300) from Van Den Hul (already have) Subs: RSC Sub ($149 for 6.6ft) from Tara Labs (already have) I know that when people are talking about cables, some agree, some disagree (similar to a capacitor thread). The only thing I have to say is that it made a huge difference when I first plugged in the Tara Labs RSC Sub cable. Bass was fuller, richer and I actually needed to reduce my gains (not by much but still needed some adjustement) Just my 02 cents

Sweet, can't wait to read what you have to add. Not that I go on every forum waiting for you to post something useful -
In-depth way of calculating the required length of a flared port
subwoofery replied to DevilDriver's topic in Technical Info & How To's
That might sound stupid but does it mean that using a flared port only require you to use a 3" port instead of a 4" port? SS RL-i8 (as per Mike's quote: moves a lot of air) needs 10 square inches of port area. 4" port will provide around 12.56 square inches of port area (but the port will be longer). Using flared port will help reduce the need for a 4" port or not at all?
