just call your ISP, they will step by step you thru re-newing your IP or figuring out w/e is wrong with it. it's happened to me a few times. at least once a year. i currently use bellsouths 6mb dsl and everytime i have an issue i just call them up. you could try this.. have your modem pluged directly to the computer. click start>run>type CMD>hit OK when command prompt comes up type IPCONFIG locate the IPaddress. then type IPCONFIG /RELEASE then type IPCONFIG /RENEW then type ping yahoo.com if no bytes are lost then your connection should be re established, if not. turn off the computer, reset the modem(by the buttom on the modem) then turn computer back on after a few minutes. if that doesn't work then just go ahead and call your isp. they will most likely make you run thru what i just said. edit: oh yeah and for movies.. learn to use torrent and search for good torrent sites.

i don't know if i'll recone these myself. depends really. for now i have the motor which is the important part. i still have to get another amp plus have to look into an HO alt. so i'd like to save some money though i'd like to keep it with the OG parts from RE. plus it's 2 recones that will be needed as i want to run 2 fresh 15's, not 1 fresh and 1 used. lol, i'm already planning out my tax returns... 2 more months! yeah it would still be nice to get a pair of SE's for 250, but i saw somewhere on ebay that a pair could come around 350 shipped which isn't tooooo bad when your comparing it to the quality of them. i'm pretty much one of those that would rather just pony up the added price cause i know that what i'm getting is worth every penny. others may not see it as that but to each their own. -
i got my 18 XXX today. it has broken tinsel leads that were semi repaired with speaker wire. though still broken. the surround is scuffed bad all the way around but the duscap is still pretty. lol. motor is still in really good condition other than a scrape on the very bottom. i tested the coils with a DMM and they both read 2.4-2.5. if i remember clearly(haven't tested my 15xxx in a while) though not 100% sure but aren't the coils supposed to be like at 1.7-1.8? so what i was thinking was what should i do?? i still have about 2ft of tinsel lead i got from fi. i was contemplating on resoldering all the leads then just sticking it to a wall socket and take a vid, but that would be a waste of tinsel lead. or should i just dismantle it. the reason i got the sub was mainly for the motor and will be resized to a 15. here's some pics, i have an AA 15" Atlas beside it for comparison. what do you guys think i should do? waste some lead and wall socket it or just dismantle it?

well i took the sub apart today, and damn was it dirty! i easly managed to remove the XXX cap very easily and can still be used for another sub well after breaking off the glue that was used to hold the wires in place then de-soldering the wire connections i found that the actual leads coming off the former are tooo short to re attach tinsel leads. so i continued to dismantle everything. one thing that had me a little puzzled was that there wasn't seperate tinsel lead holes for each tinsel lead. only 1 hole coming out of each side where both speaker wires ran. on further inspection of wear onto the felt pads there was only markings of the center of the pad where the 2 wires came from the 1 hole, yet no signs of wear of a 2 hole lead like traditional setups are. what i did not know was that this 18 or any XXX 18 in general had 2 seperate spiders, plus they both looked to be different types. was this a custom XXX that i tore apart? if it was oh well. upon removing the cone assembly i found a chit load of saw dust inside the motor. since thie basket offers no cooling besides the pole vent it is odd as to how SOOOO much dust got in there. oh well.. tomorrow i'll be taking the motor to a friends to use his drill with grabbit bits to remove the basket. here are some pics. -
just wanted to introduce myself somewhat to everyone on this forum. i'd normally be on CSO but since that is down i needed a new place to lurk and well it seems like this would be a good place. a few members here i recognize and most i don't. i'm not a big poster so i usualy only post on things i feel i could try to help people with and what not. yeah so well back to my lurking!

em about 2 years ago my car ended up flooded with sea water with all my equipment in it. at the time i had an SX12. the day after the flood waters went away i pulled the sub out and rinsed it down with clean water. the sub sat around for months and well it rusted up pretty bad. what i did was i got some Phosphoric Acid from home depot along with a scrub pad. since i was able to get the entire motor wet with the stuff it was easier for me to clean the rust off. but since yours is on the back plate i'm sure you could just submerge the very bottom of the back plate for a few hours. then scrub off carefully though never allowing the acid up the vent pole(could try to stick a cork in it). here's some before and after pics. all the rust in the motor was scrubbed out and well never rusted up again(almost 2 years later), that being i live on an island with about 85%+ humidity daily.

my idea would be to look for the previous marking of where the spider was sitting at. you know like a ring of dirt or wear or something around the basket where the spider sat and well if there actualy is a ring. you could try to 2-part epoxy(the clear kind, extra strenght 30 min) and only glue 1/4 of the spider back into the exact place where it used to sit. clamp it, allow recommended cure time then continue with the rest of the spider. that way it is secured down from a point and won't shift around when you glue the rest of the spider. not that i have ever done that before but it would seem like it might work.

i'm sure you could just use some super glue or epoxy. which ever. it's just to hold the pads in place.

hey todd, good to see familiar faces around since CSO has vanished. heard a few came over here so now I'm lurking in between forums lol. i managed to get the 18 from a trade for my SX that i had reconed from a guy on CA.com. now i would fix it but the sub can't fit into any application in my car. i currently run my 15 XXX in a fiberglass ported enclosure. for me to get this 18 in would require me to build a new box. plus the subs surround is in sooo bad condition it looks someone took the sub and laid it face down on the road and dragged it. it's ruff like sand paper all around. lol. another thing is the leads that were re-placed on here seem like the person that did it removed the center cap and soldered 12-14GA speaker wire from the inner coil to the wire terminals then epoxied the cap back on. which it may make it more difficult for me to re-solder the tinsels into the coil from the cap since removing the epoxied cap will be a total pain w/o trying to damage it. basically the main reason i got the sub was for the motor. early next year in march i hope to sell my civic(stripped of audio/replaced with factory) and buy a new 08 VW Rabbit, and go for an SQ install with 2 15's sealed. so basically I'm just picking up the pieces before i put the puzzle together. here's some pics of the surround and how the leads look to give ya an idea. as for the Atlas 15. i had received it used(like new). built a sealed box for it and stuck it in a friends civic on an audiobahn a8002t. wired it to 2ohms and set the gains accordingly. well the next day he upped to RCA voltage output on his H.U(i had thought they were already set) and clipped the sub to all hell. lasted 1 day. want it? name a price and it could be yours! -
recone kits can take about a week to build. then it takes time for shipping as i think they ship out a certain day of the week. it took me a while to get my SX recone kit but i did get it in a timely manner. i was told it'll take a week or 2 to build up them to ship. just be a little patient you WILL get your recone kit. also to not have to bug them, how much was your recone kit for the XXX? i just received my 18 today and will be needing a quote for 2 15" xxx's but don't want to have to email scott for it when you know you could just pm what yours was i already know how much my 15"sx was so i'm wondering if it's the same or not.

understandable about hazmat issues. thanks for the help. let's see if i can get this puppy working! -
Thanks a million Scott for helping me get my SX recone kit. it took me a while but i finally got the order in and finally received the recone kit for this sub that's been sitting around for over a year. the packaging was EXCELLENT. nothing on the box shifted around or got banged up. well in the order i completely forgot to mention that i need CA Glue. though buying a recone kit i would have assumed that you send out CA glue with the kit, but anyways, How about can i get some CA Glue to set this sub up? if i have to buy it since the order was completed please let me know.
