Installer4life replied to Cthedinger's topic in Build Logs
That looks great. Your are right though always takes longer than expected. I am a few years older than you but I used to build walls in my earlier years. Man that was a long time ago but the memories are still there. Four 18's, all I can say is that thing was loud. Keep it up and remember its all for fun.. -
Guys theres a product called "Dry Lube" available from select products that makes running wires through rubber boots a breeze. Give it a try..

1997 pontiac firebird. amp rack and dual 12 sub box
Installer4life replied to rollinryder33's topic in Build Logs
Looks like you didn't finish the box. Is it open on one end? If so you really need to get another piece of wood and seal it off. Also use some silicone where the sides meet to help with the seal. I like the way you pre-drilled the holes to run your wire through to your amps it makes for a clean and professional installation... -
Fiqure the area of the port which is the mouth. Length X height. 12X2=24 or 6X4=24 same area. As far as mounting your woofer like that it will not work..

Planet Audio P500 ! Is this a ZED-Audio amp or not?
Installer4life replied to steven2008's topic in ZED Audio
I have never heard of ZED designing an amp for these guys. I have always considered Planet Audio sort of a low end amplifier. -

The only one I have in stock is 949 watts at 2 ohms and 14.4volts. If that helps. -

Installer4life replied to MKader17's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Eclipse CD7200MKII has the capability built in. Subwoofer low pass, mid high pass, mid low pass, tweeter high pass. Selectable slopes and frequency. Only issue was no level control even on subwoofer. -

Suggestions for HU
Installer4life replied to pear_b's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have to agree with you on the Eclipse. I purchased a CD7200MKII and couldnot even see the display. I called Eclipse tech and they said thats the way it is. The tech even told me that he has tried to download a black screen but that did not work. If the background is on on that radio its very difficult to see the written information. However it is by far the best sounding deck I have ever owned.. The other top two were the Alpine cda7878 and the Alpine cda9815. -
Burch is good and light weight. Also no pre drilling is using screws however its more than 2 times the price of MDF and not as dense. I have never seen a Home Depot that didn't have MDF although I think higher quality stuff is available..

Ihave seen dynamat sandwiched between two pieces of MDF but that idea didn't stay around to long. Bracing is the best thing.

For some reason I can't see the most recent pics but it looks like you are having fun. I had a 1985 mazda RX7 with 4 Rockford fosgate 15" subs and one of their Power 650's in it many years ago. It was a lot of fun to build and listen to. Keep having fun and maybe I can figure out how to see the pics.

Nice headunit, It has a crossover built in for the front, rear and sub. Be sure to set the highpass on your new speakers. You might want to put some dynamat on that rear deck.

Congrats on your purchase. I have one up on you though I got mine last year so I have been able to enjoy it longer than you have. I like your Soundstream collection. I bought a Class A 6.0 and a Reference 500 in 1994 or 1995 and used them until last year when I sold them to buy a couple of Galdius with the BB upgrade and a Deuce. I truly enjoyed the Soundstream but was ready for a change. I have to tell you and its something you already know and that is these Zed Audio amps sound amazing. I don't have an amp collection, I have a 4 year old daughter instead but over my lifetime I have owned several starting out with a couple of Rockford Fosgate Power 200's and pretty much every amp they made until the early 90's. Tried a few different brands and settled on the Soundstream then the Zed. Its sad but these will probably be my last especially if I can get the same type of performance over time I did with the soundstream. Enjoy the ZED I love mine.

I just read on another forum that ZED AUDIO is not going to continue to make car audio amplifiers. Any truth to this? If it is then maybe you better get what you can. I also know they make amps for CDT. Maybe they are going to continue to make them for other companies. Anyway if they quit all together I will be disappointed.

I bought a Fluke at Sears for around $100.00. Does eveything I need and is always accurate. I have used other less expensive brands but they are not always accurate especially when reading resistance (ohms). Get a digital multimeter that does voltage, current and ohms. Most of them will only do current up to 10amps but that is enough.

I have two 8" woofers tuned to 30HZ with 400 watts per sub and love it. I am a little older but thats ok. I run a 3 way component setup and eveything comes together wonderfully.
-
Great job. I never tire of this stuff. One question though. The angle where the woofer mounting baffle meets the port wall is pretty large. How did you get that angled strengthened to handle that type of bass? I have had angles similar to that and use duraglass on the inside but I didn't have the amount of bass you are going to have.

You will probably have to go to a General Motors dealer. It doesn't have to be a Pontiac dealer just GM. The parts clerk will be able to pull up pictures of the parts you need by your description. It really is not very hard to do. If you have the old parts just take them with you. If you don't take your VIN number it is at the base of the windshield on the driver side.

I thought about using these but after talking to a Kicker employee I decided not to. He recommends the set but he said to go active. He didn't like the passive crossover network very much.

Go to Polkaudio.com, go to forum, go to general car audio questions, topic is which amp is best for MMC6500. I sent this to Aaron here at SSA and he said they were still going to produce amps they are just behind. He made the appropriate post on Polks forum.

Polk Audio forum.

That is what I was thinking. They just sent their amp to Car Audio and Electronics to be reviewed which of course was a great review. I am just trying to find out the facts. I might need to go ahead and get a couple more amps.
