I finally got myself a better sub, a RE Sx12. I have the recommended box sizes from RE, but I decided to play with WinISD a little and noticed some big disparities. RE recommends 1.5 cubes at 33hz for a compact box, but WinISD seems to want a 0.75 cube box with some crazy port lengths. Am I doing something wrong, or is WinISD just weird? I followed WinISD's instructions and the parameters it calculated seem to match up with what RE has provided. RE also suggests a 2.0 cube box at 35 hz... Can anyone point me to an info page that spells out what effect ported box sizes have on output? I'm expecting to have to build a few different boxes to get things perfect, but how better to learn right

I hit a dead porcupine while driving a gravel truck once. That sucked... nearly rolled the damn thing, but damn I squashed him good.

I'm going to have to do something. I did a 2.0 at 34 hz as recommended by RE. Thinking my port dimensions got screwed up someplace because it sounds great, but just doesn't get very loud on 1100rms. Back to the drawing board, going to use trupan or superlite mdf next time though.

Another larger car you may want to consider is the 2006+ Hyundai Sonata. I drove a 300 for a couple weeks and was not impressed, tried a few other dodge products cause I wanted rear wheel drive, but ended up being hugely impressed by the sonata. All this talk about IB has me wanting to try it, maybe next install... I'm sure it'll be soon the way I swap out subs.

You are picking nits now, but the info that is posted blows most other forums away for quantity. Just have to filter who knows their stuff, just like any other forum.

SQ is more fun to listen to daily, IMO. Go thank an old man for introducing you to something new Diyma forums will probably be a big help for you too, theres a TON of knowledge there.

I think that has a lot to do with the distributor Modz... some stuff went down and apparently they closed up their doors and ran, but before that I understand they were jacking prices pretty high.

Best/Smallest sealed box size for 2MJ 18'S

When you guys say 2.8 cubes, are we talking 2.8 cubes empty, or a pound or two of polyfill, or so crammed full of polyfill that you have to stand on the sub so it doesn't pop out while screwing it in?? -
Patience is for old people

Bah, per capita there are more douches out east, but poor Mark is stuck in the middle so lets just harrass him to bring out the IXL-15 instead.

Alpine IVA-D310 with a PXA-H701 for crossovers/eq/time correction. Get their Blackbird2 and cradle for nav. Should be around $1500 for everything, although I don't recall if it does HD radio. It does however, do optical out to the H701.

I have a set of SPX-177A, the older ones. I am not using the tweets or passives, as a tweeter died in shipping. The mids are running active, with about 110 watts rms to each from an old A/D/S amp. High passed at 25hz and low passed at 4000hz, they have been running fine like this for 8 months, taking daily beatings while I was without a sub. I have had very good results from them, but as with anything, I am sure there are better out there.

WOW... well there goes the DIY market, lol. I assume the subs are in a similar, hugely expensive price range so I guess I'll look elsewhere.

The west side is the best side. Lookin forward to news. You've got PM mrogowski

I am curious when too. My new amp should arrive before the end of the month and I'd love to get a new sub in before winter starts, which is soon in Alberta.

I was hoping to get some info about Audiopulse and their Canadian dealers, but wow. Interesting read. Hopefully Michael settles down and figures his stuff out, or they aren't going to last very long.

Done the Ed thing, still running a Nine.1. I would not buy another sub from them. Had one spontaneously burn up, which was probably at least partially my fault, but the service sucked when I tried to figure out what was wrong and what could be done about it.
-
Why not just call up PAC parts or check their site and get the proper tweeter??

DIY active is fine if the OP knows what hes doing, but for some people its a real big step, which is why I suggested something with passives.

6 channel amps are not very common. Im sure others can recommend more modern solutions, but some of the old A/D/S products may work for you. Even though they are old, they arent cheap, commonly running $150-200 for a 6 channel. I think Infinity, jbl and a couple others manufacture 6 channels if you want newer gear. $1000 isnt too bad, as long as you are willing to buy used gear, or shop for deals. ***disclaimer*** ALL PRICES WILL BE CANADIAN DOLLARS -A good head unit will usually cost $150-300, some of the better choices will include active crossovers if you are looking to go more advanced. -You could get some alpine type R components for your front speakers and tweets. I have seen last years model for around $140. These will include the required passive crossovers. -Some coaxial speakers should be fine for the rear speakers, $50-100. -If you use some components up front and coaxials in the back, you should be able to use a 4 channel amp instead of a 6. Any reputable brand will make at least a couple different 4 channel amps, and 75 watts per channel from a rockford/pioneer/kenwood/alpine will get you plenty loud for most people. Figure $100-250 for a speaker amp. -Amp wiring depends what kind of amp you will be running, but you should think about $100 at least. So far, grand total is about $800.... not too bad, and assuming you find good deals, could be even cheaper. You didnt mention whether you wanted a sub amp and subwoofer, but that will add anywhere from $100-1000 all by itself, depending how crazy you want to get. There are great deals out there, but you really need to shop for them sometimes. Patience will save you money.

I had a similar issue, where my drivers side tweet was very dominant. I tried swapping phase on it and there was a definite difference. The next step was stepping my high-pass up about 600 hz.

Hello all, not sure if this is a problem with my computer, or if something is set with the site but when I log in, I click the "remember me" button to save a cookie. Invariably, everytime I close the site I have to log in again. Is this a known issue, or just the way it is here?

I can give it around 900-1000 at 2 ohms, hopefully thats enough. If youve still got it, can you quote shipping to Canada? Thanks.
-
Im tempted to order 4 right now, just for grins, but I need to see exactly how Im going to install before I figure quantity.

Hey now, I started wanting some last week, now its too good to pass up. Will send mail about shipping to Canada.
