Eh, I'm a tinkerer, I got the stuff and I wanna play with it.

I don't really have much of a problem with the current sound, a little more accuracy would be nice, but where it's at does pretty good for movies. The problem is the box right now just isn't a good fit size wise with my new furniture layout, being that it's still bare MDF because I never decided want I wanted to do it's a good time to build something else. The current box is a rectangle, if I rebuilt it'd probably be closer to a cube. I know sealed wouldn't have as much output, but I'm not a REALLY demanding listener that cranks it up all of the time. My mains are Zaph BAMTM towers running off an 85 watt per channel Denon receiver, no center or surrounds at the moment.

So I have the following equipment I'm working with and want to build a new HT sub. Right now I have a Mach 5 MJ18 on a Parts Express 500 watt plate amp. I think it's around 6 cubes tuned to mid to upper 20's, not sure anymore. The box design isn't working with my new arrangement so I want to build something new. Basically I'm looking for opinions on if I should use the MJ18 again or use the pair of Sundown sd1 12's that I have. What would you do in my situation? I need somewhat of a multi purpose setup. It would be used for music, movies and video games but mostly leaning towards music.

I want a Z8 lol. Could be fun...

approx. how deep are you thinking? Any ideas on airspace requirements? I'm thinking 3 or 4 would do well on my 1500d.

Any guesstimate on power handling Also, coil options?

I have faint engine whine with upgraded grounds and the amp grounded to the battery. It did it on my old 2 channel amp and it does it on my new 4 channel amp (slightly quieter) even with the the RCA's unplugged. Some cars just suck like that.

I think they're just going to be in 12's right? That would be a tough fit, I could space them out but it's the diameter that's the problem too. If I'd expand to go with something deeper/larger diameter i could go with most any 12 (and just keep my current Q) I'll have to evaluate if that will be an option...

Haha, I've been around, just don't do much posting. I saw casflan was from MN too and realized I never filled my location info in.

Well lets get this part out of the way, I have a Dodge Magnum, and I'm currently running a FI Q 12 D2 with BP power in about 2.2^3ft at 31ish hz on a Sundown 1500d. I love the sound of my setup (listen to primarily rock), very happy with it, EXCEPT i want my cargo space back! For fun I had it metered and put down a 140.8 on the TL. So what I'm looking to do is build enclosures for my rear storage pockets as you can see here. I want to attempt building them myself, but am using this for planning which means somewhere about .7 cu ft and 6.5 inches deep to work with. Obviously this would limit me to a sealed 10 or sealed or ported 8. For budget let's say 200ish a piece for a limit. Some thoughts I've had: Fi SSD Dayton Titanic Dayton RSS265HF (or HO) I wish SI made the new Mag in a 10", that would probably be a great fit for me... Looking forward to suggestions!

Can I use 12 gauge wire instead of 4 gauge?

Have not checked voltage as the 1500d and other 100.2 are fine. It started while I was driving, then later worked for a little while and stopped again. It makes me want to think heat, but I wasn't pushing it very hard, and actually rarely even do, and I hadn't been in the car more than 5 minutes. All the amps have worked fine since sometime summer 08 when I installed them until this one now. I doubt Jacob will be around much in the next few days (CONGRATS! btw) But I'll email him and see what he says I guess.

I was driving today and all of a sudden lost my mids. They were actually still playing, but were VERY quiet, had to put my ear right up to them to hear them. My setup is an RF 3sixty.2 doing 2 way active (plus sub) feeding a pair of 100.2's and a 1500d. So far I tried swapping the mids over to the tweeter amp and they work fine, the output on the 3sixty also works fine (I first suspected the 3sixty anyway. The protect light isn't on, no fuses are blown and the amp still works, but is very quiet. If I bring the gain up the speakers get louder, but the amp is being clipped badly and the speakers crackle (they work fine on the tweeter amp). Does anyone know of anything else I could try (oh ya, also checked RCA's, had an extra set in the car). I'm guessing this will need to be sent in. I'm going out now to rig up an old deck and double check everything with a different source. Thanks.
