Fi Audio Choices and what would be need to buy with?
Basshead replied to sam9007's topic in General Fi
i agree on the research. and/or start with smaller or cheaper equipment cuz when you're feelin froggy and mess with the knobs on the amp (we've all been there ) and blow somethin you wont be at as much of a loss. then you learn from it and work your way up. -
Don't forget Ohio Gen, they rock. Ohio Gen is the best. x100! i love ohio gen. i called them, asked some questions. we hung up, they called me back twice very quickly and let me know what i needed. they had my alt in stock. got it shipped the next day. couldnt be happier
-
if it caught fire...i wanna say chances are it was due to user installation. but that's just imo
-
if you need to ask what kind, then i dno if you should overpower them. a little will be ok, like 2500 ish like you mentioned, but i wouldnt try to go more than that.
-
lol old bump for sure. but pimp chit nonetheless!
-
oh he does. but his are also a little altered. well his old ones were. more spiders etc... and he doesnt give em 5k. maybe a little more than 4k, but not quite 5. and the hifonics wont put out that 2600 watts. it'll put out around 2100-2200 i believe. if you're going to get subs like 18" BTL's, then i'd save up for a more decent amp. you'll be happier in the long run EDIT: and the weight for the old ones were i think around 75-80, give or take. not sure about the new ones, but there's an idea

i like SMD some bad things of course, just like anywhere...but i've learned a lot there too. i just ignore the posts i dont wanna read/comment on

use some all thread to brace it, or some 1"x1" wood to brace it. i dont think the displacement from that wood would be enough to noticeably tell a difference. might make the box 7.75 cubes or somethin.
-
those dimensions are wrong...if you subtract an inch for wood displacement...you'll have to subtract it from both sides, being as there is wood on each side. 1" wood is fine to use (use MDF or plywood), but around where i live i cant find any 1" wood. if that's also the case with you, using 3/4" wood will be fine. just make sure it's braced to help prevent any box vibrations there may be. PM me if you'd like more help on the box. i'm waitin on my transfer cable to come in the mail to transfer all my files from my old PC to my new one. and then i'll be able to use my tuning calculator and help you more on box size and tuning and all that.

wiring the sub in parallel will give it a .5 ohm load (half what the coil is rated at) and in series will be a 2 ohm load (double what the coil is rated at). you can wire a pair of D1 voice coil subs @ 1 ohm...but not one. however if you get the sundown amp...it'll be able to run at .5 ohms. but for now you'll have to run it at 2 ohms

Advice on elctrical system
Basshead replied to Wall_Breaker's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
kinetiks are also good batteries to use. iraggi alts...although they may be very good alts, have very exhausting customer service. i'd check into ohio gen alts. VERY good customer service from my experience. i called them, told them what i had/was looking for. we hung up, they called me back to get a lil more info, hung up and called back and told me what i'd need and said they checked and had my model in stock. all within like...a half hour. have had the alt for...i wanna say about a year? and no problems since i've gotten it -
general rule of thumb is between 12-16 square inches of port per cubic foot of space in the box. i dont have my tuning calculator on this PC yet, but i should in a couple of days if i can quit bein lazy and transfer my files. send me a PM if you still need help (it'll be easier than looking for this thread ) and i can help you with the tuning. slot or aero...whichever way you wanna go
-
box looks good! for the port...i've always been able to clamp mine down, if not i just hold it in place and lightly screw it in till i make sure it grabs where i want it to, then tighten it in place. maybe have someone hold it in place while you do it?

i'm gettin 32 if i can get my current setup sold

Multiple amps on a single bass knob??
Basshead replied to oxsign's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
splitters wont work. i forget why...but i looked into the same thing. something about the signals. the power series amps he has can be put together and all controlled with one knob, but not all amps can do this. if you strap them, they can also be controlled with one knob. you could get something like a maxx-link which will link the amps together, tho not 'strapped'. they'd be tuned the same and would go off one knob also (if i'm thinkin right...havent used a maxx-link in real life tho ) -
damn...i agree with that. from beginning to end.
-
if you're gonna get a btl...you're going to want it fully loaded. putting 3k watts on them would be easy enough i'd say. anything more and you're gonna want to make sure the box is perfect and everything else. it can be done...it just gets more dangerous after that. i have 4 15's fully loaded for sale too btw

alternator question
Basshead replied to Alucard's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
i talked to the guys at ohio gen and (at the time) i was going to run about 6-8k watts (sketchy amps...power wasnt accurate) but he said 8k on burps would be fine with a 200 amp alt. since that's basically what i was going to use it for. i dont blare it and listen to it constantly. but it depends on application basically. i'd try to get the most power you can. the 300 amp alt (maybe antoer alt if you can fit one) seems like it'd hold up decently, tho your idle amperage will most likely drop -
devildriver...that was a good read lots of nice info
-
ouch...hahaha at least you got the right info now
-
i'd be interested in these if i wasnt going for all them 8 inchers (which i *might* be able to get soon...if a couple interests go through on my subs). but...by 2009 i'll probably switch my setup around, and definitely look into sundown. i love the amps, and they really tuned me into the brand/company.

Scion TC to weak?
Basshead replied to Coltdiggity989's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
alt upgrades are always good to do, especially if you are going over around 1000 watts, since a cars factory alt only has the power to handle the load of the car out of the factory. no additional loads are considered. an upgraded battery (or more than one) is also a good idea. and 'the big 3'. that should help you keep your power going in the car -
damn so they're your own pics? very nice pic too. the sundown banner is SLICK! very nice. you sell any? if i were to find a pic. dont wanna steal your same ones
