  1. Ok, here is my dilemma. I currently have a ford ranger. Later this year I will be pickin up a chevy silverado (4 door). my wife has given me a choice with the two. I could either do a fiberglass lid on the Silverado and do a blowthrough with, perhaps 3 15" BTL's or a can put a camper shell on the ranger and build a wall with something like 2 18" BTLs. The Silverado will be my daily driver, so I think she is wanting me to do the system in that and makin the ranger for nothing but haulin stuff. I was curious as to what you guys would do. I am in a split decision between the two and am hopin your opinions could help me make a better decision. THANX

Which vehicle to do a setup in

Sorry, I put in the words of my "oh so great wife", by hauling stuff, I mean putting a big screen TV in the back, a few boxes, etc. Not really hauling like boats, cars, and crap like that. Either way, I am gonna have both trucks and am still not sure which one to put the loud system in, lol. My Ranger has a 4.0, so I can kinda haul anything I may ever need to.....at most a motorcycle.

    What would you do (subjective)

yeah, but wouldnt 2 10" bls ported with 2k watts total be louder than 1 15" BL with 1k watts......unless you were referring to a sealed setup which is completely different from what i am talkin bout. I love all the votes! I am still so torn on what to do with my system, lol. I am personally lookin at the 2 10" BL's ported or the 2 15" Q's sealed. I dont have much exp with sealed so its gonna be a toss up (most exp i have with sealed is my girls old RF P1's in a crap prefab box, lol). I think 2 15's would look sooooo sexy. Like I said, it will probably end up being just how i feel that day to figure out what i wanna go with, lol.

    What would you do (subjective)

As it states, this is just something I am curious to see. All would be in the optimum enclosures and tuned appropriately. I am curious how many pick sealed vs ported, size of the subs, etc. Again, this is all subjective and I am doing this out of curiousity to find out what the majority of you audiophiles would really go with. Lets say 1k watts per sub. optimum enclosure. trunk install. I am tryin to get ideas of what a general Fi user loves before I even start thinkin of my next setup.

    What would you do (subjective)

Wow! I really didn't think they would be so "spatial" if that makes any sense at all. I thought most would be biased to two of the subs, the 2 10" BLs ported and maybe the 2 12's sealed. Interesting.....MORE PEOPLE NEED TO VOTE, LOL!
  6. I have NEVER in my life owned a car, esp one with a trunk. I love bass but need room for storage, so I am thinking of putting a single 12" Fi BTL back there (charger). Will 1 12" sub ported be enough?? Will I be better off going with 2 10" BL's ported instead? I know this is a super dumb question, but I want to plan everything out perfectly before I start buying stuff. Thanks.

super dumb question about trunk installs

Yeah, I was playing with some measurments and I came up with about 4.5 cu ft of area before displacement, so I am just gonna start planning from there.

super dumb question about trunk installs

Your IB does look nice, I hear they can be a pain in the butt to setup at times though, with sealing off the rear deck and such. That was something I was hoping to avoid. Plus, I know I will get some gruff for this one, I kinda like rear fill and wanna keep my rear speakers. I know that destroys the whole point of a front stage, but I like being surrounded by music. IB setups are great, but I think they aren't really my cup of tea. My girl has a very small sealed setup, 2 12" P2's whereas I have always had the P3's ported....I think I like how loud the P3's can get. If I wanna listen to some heavy metal or something, I could just turn the bass down a bit. I love the vibrations. However, you are right with the BTL, after researching some more I think it is more of a farter than anything. At this point, I am looking at a 12" BL or 2 10" BL's, not to sure which I wanna go with. The single 12" will use almost a cube less than the 2 10's, so it may end up being that. Plus, from what people are saying, a single BL can get hella loud, probably more than both my P3's combined, which is what I am really looking for.
  9. What would you prefer? 2 10" BL's ported with about 2.5 cu ft volume after displacement (2k watts total) or 1 15" BTL ported with 3 cu ft after displacement (about 2.5k watts). I wanna get loud, but not for competition and still save some room in my car. If 3 cu ft is to small for a 15, I could always put a 12" BTL back there. I just wanna get the most bang for my buck and still have ample room for storage. Dodge Charger by the way...I gave up on SQ, realized its not really my thing.

what would you bassheads do for a charger install

Thanks guys, I am gonna take some extra measurements and try to fit a 15 in there, I will also look a lot nicer and a single 12.
  11. So, here is my problem. I am going to be running one sub and I have a slight "Monk" issue...for those of you who know that show. I feel like things have to be balanced out. So, I want to put my sub in the middle of the enclosure and would like to have two ports, one on each side. Is this clausable and how do I go about figuring out how much port area I need. The specs say 12-16 sq inches of port per cu ft of box volume. So I am planning around 40 sq inches of port area total. Would this be 20sq in per port or am I calculating this incorrectly. Any and all help would be happily listened to. Thanks
  12. Thanks. I read somewhere about dividing the volume of the enclosure in half and using that in determining the port volume and port length, but then again this place didn't say use this much per cu ft of volume.

what would you bassheads do for a charger install

Sure wish someone would make a "magic" woofer that would sound like a BTL with the same output and only require 1 cuf ft of space after displacement, lol. I am lookin at somewhere around 3 cu ft, so I think the either the 12 or 15 BTL, I will have to debate just how much room I wanna lose. I might be able to put a 15 back there and still have enough room for some luggage, lol.

super dumb question about trunk installs

my bad, guess i could have been a little more in depth. I want a daily driver that can get very loud and still save some space in the trunk. I am trying to figure out which of the two above will give me the most bang for my buck, 2 10's or a single 12", both in ported enclosures. THe two subs I am looking at are listed in my first post. I am not even looking a mids/highs at this point. I listen to everything from heavy metal and techno to rap and R&B, i like it all. I love feelin some nice vibrations though. Choice of amps are in the air right now, I will buy one based on what will be installed.

Looking for lots of SPL while saving as much room as possible

    Stupid IB question

So, I get the general jist of an IB setup. Deaden the entire trunk, make a baffle to hold the sub(s) that completely seals the trunk from the rest of the car. Here is my question though, what do i do with the rear deck. I hear of people doing a lot of things regarding it, but I really have no clue what to do, if anything. Help would be great as this is my very first IB setup. I am sure more questions will come about front stage, but later. Or do you think 2 15" Q's sealed would sound better. I have only ever had ported and am ready for a postive change while making room in my trunk, tired of having no room. Thank YOu

    Stupid IB question

So all i need pretty much is to create a "wall" the will completely seal the trunk from the cabin. Cool. I hope i did understand this correctly. Everyone in my area are so wound up with having ported subs, they keep trying to talk me out of a IB setup. I heard that can sound great and still get pretty loud.
  18. This is a new project going in my friends Charger R/T. He wants to slowly setup a nice SQ setup. We will more than likely use the Q's. If doing an IB, the rear deck will be completly blocked off and sealed up. Any suggestions or ideas would be great....thanks.

What is best for an overall loud SQ setup

That sounds good SQBMW. I think i have seen your car before somewhere, not to sure where though. Maybe you posted pics of it when it came up for sale, cant really remember. I will have to get together with you and Dan and see what I can find out.

What is best for an overall loud SQ setup

Sorry, I am sure my definition of loud is far from what most people on here probably use it as....We are shooting for an overall loud listening experience, not something that is loud for SPL purposes. I guess what I should say is an overall loud system, mids/highs, etc. Something that can get noisy and sound great doing it. Not loud like BTL's and such, not SPL wise.

What is best for an overall loud SQ setup

I imagine even a single 15 with a proper IB could probably wang. I have heard installers say otherwise, but was reading some book about them that said they can be brutal if done correctly.
  22. Xibalba

What is best for an overall loud SQ setup

So for a good IB setup, it would require really only one sub, preferably a 15? This is our first IB setup and we are not 100% where to start. All we want to do is make a super loud SQ setup that is pretty much worthy of competition.
  23. So, a friend of mine just got two JL 12W7's...sexy lookin subs. Before he kills my system I am curious, how do these subs stand up. Are they very good subs....SPL, SQ, etc. Tryin to find out before he puts me to far to shame, lol.
  24. LOL. Your posts look almost like mine, what kind of car do you have......a guess, perhaps a 300C?
  25. First the system: Right now I plan on doing 2 12's ported or 2 10's ported, Q's of course. 2k watts total. I will be running lots of mids and highs for "look" purposes as I am hoping to compete in shows, so I imagine around 1k watts, depending on stuff. I have a 160 amp alt and the stock battery is a 730 ampere battery. I already plan on doing big 3. I will probably throw in an extra battery as well. Will I need a bigger alt or will a 160 amp alt work? I know it brings a lot of other factors in. My amps are more than likely gonna be RF amps cause I can get a little deal on them. Any other suggestions or ideas to ensure I have adequate power would be great. Thanks.
